The Hunger Games: Catching Fire recently hit theaters, but apparently the folks at Lionsgate are already putting together a fairly epic Blu-ray set for next year.
A word of warning: The set you’re about to drool over is currently an Amazon.co.uk exclusive. Although this doesn’t mean that Lionsgate won’t cobble together a similar set for fans in the United States — they’d be fools not to — it’s worth noting that some of this stuff may not make it to your living room.
According to the folks at Hypable, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire set contains over 130 minutes of bonus material. The so-called “Deluxe Edition” features 45 minutes of exclusive material that you’re not going to find elsewhere. Until the next Deluxe Edition comes along, that is.
Of course, it’s presently unclear what these extras will contain. Since we’re talking over two hours of previously unreleased footage, chances are fans are getting tons of behind-the-scenes featurettes and maybe a small collection of deleted scenes. This is all speculation on our part, so don’t get upset if some of this stuff doesn’t make the final cut.
If that’s not enough to get you to drain cash from your bank account, then you’ll want to consider the soundtrack and the eight “art cards” also stuffed inside this expensive set. The folks at Lionsgate are certainly doing all they can to get you excited about this attractive package.
If you’re not willing to drop approximately $125 on the Deluxe Blu-ray Edition of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, then there’s still the standard Blu-ray DVD combo pack to consider. Although the set contains over two hours worth of bonuses, you’ll miss out on that additional 45 minutes of goodies. As always, the choice is yours.
Unfortunately, it’s still unclear when Catching Fire will find its way to home video. Since it didn’t take the first Hunger Games flick very long to arrive on DVD and Blu-ray, chances are the sequel could hit retail shelves this spring. Again, this is all speculation at this point.
Box Office Mojo reports that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has earned a deeply impressive $306 million in North America alone. The acclaimed follow-up’s international total isn’t too shabby either; the movie has amassed $276 million from moviegoers overseas.
For those who aren’t willing to do the math, this puts the worldwide total at about $583 million. It may seem a little early to start talking about Blu-ray details, but Lionsgate definitely wants to keep fans buzzing with excitement. After all, moviegoers have to wait until next November to catch the first part of director Francis Lawrence’s Mockingjay in theaters.
