TV on the Radio cancels gigs after death of bassist Gerard Smith


Brooklyn-based art rock band TV on the Radio has canceled several gigs after the death early Wednesday of member Gerard Smith, a notice on the group’s official website announced this morning.

Smith, age unavailable, played bass and keyboards with TV on the Radio. The statement posted simply read:

We are very sad to announce the death of our beloved friend and bandmate, Gerard Smith, following a courageous fight against lung cancer. Gerard passed away the morning of April 20th, 2011. We will miss him terribly.

The dates canceled are as follows:

  • April 20 St. Andrew Halls, Detroit MI
  • April 22 Metro, Chicago IL
  • April 23 First Ave, Minneapolis MN
  • April 24 First Ave, Minneapolis MN
  • April 26 Ogden, Denver CO

TV on the Radio’s site indicates that as information becomes available, it will be posted.
