Robert F. Kennedy’s Assassin Transferred To New Prison

Robert F. Kennedy’s assassin was transferred to a new prison within the California system on the date of the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination.

Sirhan Sirhan is serving a life sentence for the 1968 murder of Senator Robert F. Kennedy, also known as Bobby.

According to a state corrections official, Sirhan Sirhan, accused killer of former Attorney General, Bobby Kennedy, was transferred from Corcoran state prison in central California to Richard J. Donovan prison in San Diego.

Deborah Hoffman, Corrections spokesperson said the move was routine within the prison system and the date in which it took place was an “unfortunate coincidence.”

Since being convicted Sirhan, 69, has spent time at Corcoran State Prison in the San Joaquin Valley, Pleasant Valley State Prison in Coalinga, and San Quentin.

His life sentence for the murder of Robert Kennedy was commuted to life in prison in 1972.

Under the law, the killer has the right to a parole hearing every five years, the latest such occasion was in 2011 when his parole was denied.

Robert Kennedy was the younger brother of John F. Kennedy and served as Attorney General from 1961 to 1964, when he left the Johnson administration to run for the Senate.

As a close confidant to his brother, Robert F. Kennedy had great influence on several crucial historical moments for the United States, such as the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Berlin Crisis of 1961, and played several roles within Jack Kennedy’s administration.

Robert F. Kennedy was a champion for the Civil Rights movement and fought the mafia and organized crime during Kennedy’s Presidency.

While campaigning for the Democratic Presidential nomination in 1968, Kennedy won the California primary and had just given an acceptance speech to his supporters in one of the ballrooms at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles.

As he left the ballroom, taking a shortcut through the hotel kitchen, Sirhan Sirhan fired three times hitting Robert F. Kennedy and others, the assassination was caught on video.

Bobby Kennedy was rushed, first to Los Angeles’s Central Receiving Hospital and then to Good Samaritan Hospital where he died early the next morning.

Sirhan said that he shot the Senator for his support for Israel during the 1967 Six-Day War, which had started a year prior, on the day of the assassination.

Robert Kennedy was buried in Arlington National Cemetery, not far from his brother John F. Kennedy who was also assassinated on November 22, 1963.
