Sarah Silverman’s ‘Susan 313’ Rejected: ‘There Were Cringy Places For Me’

Sarah Silverman opened up about the recent rejection by NBC of her show, Susan 313, which she co-wrote and starred in. A year later, she received permission to post the show online.

Silverman was clear about the fact that the show was a problem for NBC, as well as for her:

“I don’t feel like any frustration about it. I don’t think I want to do 22 of anything a year. Network TV is just not the place for me. But it was good. I worked with all my friends, and it was neat to do something different,” she said.

She continued to talk about her experience over the last year since the launch of the pilot: “There were cringy places for me,” she said.

It seems that Sarah Silverman has her head firmly screwed on though as she spoke with clarity about where the show and script may have gone wrong:

“I know, with some perspective of time, exactly what I would change. … But the truth is, the cut I liked the most was a 29-minute cut. You have to cut eight minutes out and maintain the storyline. It’s frustrating, but it’s no one’s fault. We should have written a tighter script,” she said.

When she was asked why the show ended up with NBC and not cable TV, she replied: “The networks want you and you forget about ‘I want to take this to cable.’ You’re just so excited by love and acceptance.”

All-in-all, Sarah Silverman has remained positive despite the fact her show didn’t succeed on NBC. This came across in her words when she said: “I’m Older and I’m Smarter and I’m Different.”
