Nicki Minaj Wasn’t Mariah Carey’s ‘Satan,’ Says Nick Cannon

When Mariah Carey recently said that working on American Idol was akin to hanging out with Satan in Hell, everyone assumed she was talking about co-judge Nicki Minaj.

However, Carey’s husband Nick Cannon wants everyone to know that she wasn’t referring to the rapper during her recent commentary about FOX’s long-running competition. During his conversation with Access Hollywood, Cannon attempted to set the record straight.

“I don’t think [her ‘Satan’ comment] was about the people on the panel. It’s about when someone tells you something and paints a picture one way, and then that’s not the case,. If she’s used to being treated a certain way and then you have a network that says, ‘No, we’re gonna do this,’ then…” Cannon said.

He added, “I don’t think she was speaking directly about [Nicki Minaj]. I think she was talking about the situation in general. In her mind, it’s bigger than that. If my wife wanted to [call Nicki Satan], she would’ve said that. She has no problem [saying] how she feels.”

It’s certainly no secret that Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey didn’t exactly see eye-to-eye during their stint on American Idol. Rumors of their feud started to surface before the first episode of the season hit the airwaves. FOX even attempted to work their disagreements into the marketing campaign.

Since Minaj and Carey’s feud is essentially yesterday’s news, everyone was a little shocked when the “Emotions” singer told HOT 97 that working on the show was like spending a great deal of time in Hell with Satan. Although she clarified that it wasn’t necessarily that bad, people automatically assumed Nicki Minaj was aforementioned devil.

Here’s what Carey said about her time on American Idol:

“Honestly, I hated it. Here’s what it was. I was the first person who signed on… I thought it was going to be a three-person panel. They gave me a nice… monetary moment, and I was just like, ‘Okay, Randy Jackson will be there; I’ve known him forever. He used to play bass for me. Like, this isn’t a big deal. This will be nothing,'”

Still convinced that Mariah Carey was referring to Nicki Minaj during her recent rant? Nick Cannon wants you to know that the beef between the singer and the rapper is old news.

“She was talking about the situation in general,” he told Access Hollywood.

Do you think Mariah Carey was talking about Nicki Minaj when she said working on American Idol was not unlike living in Hell with Satan?
