Celine Dion Dead: Singer Blasts Death Rumors, Says They Worry Her Family

Celine Dion is not dead, but that hasn’t stopped rampant rumors of her demise from spreading on the internet.

The multi-platinum selling singer said she has heard all kinds of death rumors throughout her career, with all manner of supposed causes of death. Celine said the rampant rumors are keeping her from diving into the acting world, and have had a big impact on her family.

“Many years ago I [apparently] killed myself in my own garage. Don’t ask me why I don’t want to be a part of the showbiz industry!”

She added that the rumors sometimes are so serious that she has to call her family to let them know she’s still alive.

“I was celebrating the birthday of my twins in Montreal and I was getting these phone calls saying there was stuff on Facebook that I was dead,” Celene said. “The thing that worries me is my mom. It makes me a little mad — she’s 86 years old and if I’m not on the phone telling her I’m OK four seconds after it’s on the news… It doesn’t matter what they say, it’s the impact it has on your family.”

While Celine Dion has been declared dead many times, she is just one of many celebrities to face death rumors. In the past year dozens have popped up, targeting everyone from Angelina Jolie to Morgan Freeman.

Some of these celebrity death rumors are a bid to make waves and cause attention, but others have a darker purpose. A recent rumor that action star Jackie Chan had died was really just a front to spread a virus through fake websites and Facebook accounts. Fake news posts of Chan’s death took people to sites where they were asked to download news video, which instead gave them a virus. Other sites required people to input personal information.

There is no indication whether people who want to declare Celine Dion dead have a darker intention, though as Dion’s family knows they rumors are anything but harmless.
