Janelle Monae On Vocal Rest, Postpones Tour Dates

Janelle Monae has been forced to postpone concerts in California and Arizona in order to comply with “strict doctor’s orders for mandatory vocal rest.”

Monae added, “Not doing so could possibly result in damage to my vocal cords.”

The R&B singer was scheduled to perform in Anaheim, San Diego, and Phoenix.

“But alas, apparently even the most expertly designed android breaks down sometimes and must recharge,” she wrote on her website. “I promise to see you sooner than you think my friends, stronger than ever. I love you all dearly.”

The tour was to promote Monae’s new album, The Electric Lady, which was released on September 10. The album debuted at number five on the Billboard 200, selling 47,000 copies in its first week. The album also peaked at #3 on the Top R&B/Hop-Hop Albums chart.

Janelle Monae recently addressed rumors about her sexual orientation. Monae stopped by Sway in the Morning in September to talk about The Electric Lady, when Tracy G said, “I want to talk to you about boys.” She also said men feel like they don’t have a chance with her because they think she’s “into girls.”

Monae said, “Women are amazing, and so are guys.” But she declined to comment further because she didn’t want to let anybody down. She also said that there was nothing wrong with liking both men and women.

“There’s nothing wrong with being bisexual, there’s nothing wrong with being lesbian or gay. I am an advocate,” Monae said. “I have friends who are in same sex relationships and I feel love has no sexual orientation. Love has no religious belief. Love is the purest and most important thing we can possess for ourselves and for others.”

Janelle Monae recently teamed up with Miguel for “PrimeTime.” In the video, Monae plays Cindi Mayweather and Miguel plays her first love, Joey Vice. The video was influenced by Blade Runner, which Monae has said is one of her favorite films.
