‘Breaking Bad’s ‘Better Call Saul’ May Be A Sequel Series

Rumors have been circulating for weeks about the Breaking Bad spinoff series Better Call Saul. What was once a speculated series was later confirmed by AMC. Although the network admitted that it was going forward with the series that would center around Walter White and Jesse Pinkman’s lawyer Saul, they never specified what type of series it would be in the Breaking Bad universe. Now we are learning that was for good reason.

According to a report Better Call Saulmight act as a prequel series as rumored, but also a sequel series as well. Better Call Saul, starring Bob Odenkirk as the wheeling and dealing lawyer Saul may reveal more about the character than what a prequel would otherwise suggest.

During an interview with IGN, Odenkirk revealed that Better Call Saulmay be a hybrid series of sorts.

“I’ve talked to Vince (Gilligan) and Peter (Gould), who are writing and creating the series, about this and I’ve said that a lot of people do want to see what happens to next to Saul. So, I don’t know what they’re going to do. I know they’ve talked about prequel, but they’ve also talked to me about sequel, and they’ve also talked to me about a mix of prequel and sequel.”

When AMC made the announcement about Saul getting his own spinoff called Better Call Saul, the network said the show would center on, “The evolution of the Goodman character before he ever became Walter White’s lawyer.” Now this plan seems to be tweaked a bit if Odenkirk’s conversations with Gilligan and Gould are evidence enough.

Regardless the two writers will have to decide relatively soon in what direction they want to take the Better Call Saul show in. According to Bob Odenkirk production will be under way pretty soon.

“Well, supposedly the writers are starting up in two or three weeks, so they’re trying to get that ready.”

Although we aren’t sure in what direction Better Call Saul is going in, it’s been all but confirmed that Walter White and Jesse Pinkman may be coming in for a few cameos from time to time.
