Toronto Mayor Rob Ford Admits Smoking Crack

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford admitted that he smoked crack cocaine while in office. Despite his long-awaited admission, the mayor refuses to resign. Ford said he only smoked crack one time and he denies reports that he is addicted.

Last week, authorities announced that they have a video of the mayor using crack cocaine. Toronto Police Chief William Blair said the video was recovered from a computer, which was seized during a drug investigation.

As reported by CNN, the mayor has been accused of public drunkenness on numerous occasions, but he was never formerly charged.

Ford admitted that he has “made mistakes” and wanted to “apologize… to move forward.” Although he was willing to apologize for his unruly behavior, the mayor denied using crack.

In a recent press conference, Ford admitted that he actually has smoked crack cocaine. The mayor said he was “in a drunken stupor” when the incident occurred. He said the recording of his drug use was made without his knowledge or permission. Ford claims he was too drunk to remember details about the evening in question.

As reported by The Globe and Mail, city council members John Filion and Paul Ainslie filed a motion to limit Toronto Mayor Rob Ford’s duties. They specifically petitioned to remove the mayor’s power to dismiss and appoint members of his executive committee.

Accusations about the mayor’s drug use have led members of city council and the executive committee to question his position as city leader:

“a majority of members of council and a significant number of members of the executive committee have expressed serious concerns about the mayor’s ability to lead the city government at this time.”

Council member Paula Fletcher said she thinks Ford needs time off to rest and “get some help” for his drug use.

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford denies having a addiction to alcohol or crack cocaine. However, he admits he needs to make some important changes in his life and behavior.
