Sony Bono In Hell? Cher Says It May Be So

Sony Bono and Cher did not have the best marriage and she has been candid about it. In a recent Q&A with fans on Facebook, Cher suggested her ex-husband may be in hell.

Cher has made no secret of her feelings for Sony Bono, but now she is taking it a step further. Did she really suggest he is in hell?

During the October 31 session, in which Cher answered questions about her career, upcoming tour, and some of a more personal nature, like the fan who asked:

“Hi Cher, if Sonny Bono were still alive today, but you only had a minute to talk to him, what would you say.”

The music legend answered:

“How hot is it where you just came from?”

But it was not always this contentious between the couple, who was professionally known as Sony & Cher. The pair met in 1962 and got married two years later.

Their popularity skyrocketed during the ’60s and ’70s when they had the number one hit “I Got You Babe” and also two TV shows.

Sony Bono and Cher had one child, Chastity Sun Bono (now known as Chaz, after changing his gender) in 1969. However, the marriage didn’t last and they divorced in 1975.

In 1998, Sony Bono died of injuries he suffered when he hit a tree while skiing in Lake Tahoe. He was 62-years-old.

Cher has decided opinions about her ex, which she has shared with the public, calling Bono as “serial womanizer” and confiding that theirs was a rocky romance.

In a 2010 interview with Parade, Cher talks about confronting Sony Bono about his infidelity:

“I found all this out afterward. I asked him, ‘How did you manage the logistics?’ I was trusting and faithful with him,” Cher said. “I’m not sure we should’ve ever been husband and wife.”

Cher took her husband’s infidelity hard, even contemplating suicide.

“I thought about jumping off a hotel balcony,” she admitted. “Then I thought, no, I can just leave him. When I told Sonny, he said, ‘If you leave me, America will hate you and you won’t have a job.”

During a September 2012 interview with USA Today, Cher talked about her struggles after finalizing her separation from Sony Bono.

“I had no money, and I had to pay him $2 million. It took a long time. I worked my way into a spot in Las Vegas playing two shows a night. My managers were making more money than I was. I pride myself on still being here. A lot of people were gigantic, and then they were gone.”

Things have dramatically improved since those dark days for Cher as she has won an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, an Emmy Award, three Golden Globe Awards, and the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival, among several other honors.

She is also a fashion designer, writer, and producer. Cher is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, she has sold more than 100 million solo albums and over 40 million records as part of Sonny & Cher.

She is the only artist to have a number-one single on a Billboard chart in each of the past six decades. It appears Sony Bono was wrong about his prediction when he and Cher divorced.
