Britney Spears: From Deterring Somali Pirates To Jesus Christ In One Week

Britney Spears is in the news yet again for two totally unrelated stories.

As reported in the Inquisitr this week, the British Merchant Navy was using her singing as a secret weapon to deter Somali pirates. Apparently, being strict Muslims, they find Britney Spears- and all she represents – totally offensive.

So, by blaring out “Oops I did it again” and similar classics from the Britney songbook, the pirates avoid attacking ships protected by Britney.

Now, going from the sublime to the ridiculous, there is word of “Spears: The Gospel According to Britney,” a new musical, possibly bound for Broadway.

It’s billed as an opera, and it intends to depict the story of Christ, using Spears’ songs for its libretto.

According to the producers of “Spears” it’s “an opera that chronicles the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, as told through the music of Britney Spears.

Pat Blute,is the creator of “Spears.” He writes:

These are Britney’s lyrics. These are Jesus Christ’s images. The Britney Spears you see is not Britney Spears. Remember that. The Jesus Christ you read is not Jesus Christ. These are manifestations. Accounts through the media, through the words of followers, of friends, of foes, of villains, of heroes, of liars, of biases. It’s a falsehood that people believe fame and fortune create happiness. That all ‘deaths’ receive a resurrection. I hope this project will show you otherwise through the power of listening and the power of forgiveness. Special thanks to all involved in this production…

He adds: “Spears” is a very special type of theatrical experience. Well, that probably goes without saying, and certainly qualifies for an entry as the “understatement of the year.”

Max Druz, the show’s musical director, writes:

When Pat first told me about The Gospel According to Britney I was both amused and intrigued by his concept. The unique format of ‘Spears’ appealed to me because it gave me the opportunity to utilize pop music as a method of narration and to exercise my musical abilities in arrangement and production. Juxtaposing Britney’s music with the story of Christ has been an amazing voyage, and I’m thrilled to present my musical spin on the mega-hits of the one-and-only goddess Britney Spears.

“Goddess” Britney Spears? Wonder what God would make of that description!
