Jacqueline Badger Mars Charged In Fatal Crash


Jacqueline Badger Mars is being charged with reckless driving after causing a fatal accident on October 4. The 74-year-old Mars candy heiress crossed the center line and crashed into a vehicle carrying six people. Irene Ellisor, age 86, was pronounced dead at the scene. Four other passengers and the driver were hospitalized.

Mars was also injured in the tragic accident. She spent time in two different hospitals as she recovered from her injuries.

Witnesses said Mars admitted falling asleep behind the wheel. Authorities eventually determined she was at fault and charged her with misdemeanor reckless driving.

Mars was issued a subpoena by the Loudoun County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office. The billionaire heiress is set to appear in court on December 5.

As reported by CBS News, Mars said she “regrets this tragic accident” and sends thoughts and prayers to everyone involved and their families.

Jacqueline Badger Mars’ net worth is more than $20 billion, making her the 27th richest person in the world. She and her two brothers inherited the world’s largest candy company.

The heiress is the granddaughter of Frank C. Mars, who founded the Mars candy company. In addition to making M&Ms, Twix, Skittles, and Milky Way, the company also produces Uncle Ben’s Rice, Whiskas, and other popular brands.

As reported by The Richest, Mars married David H. Badger in 1961. They are the parents of Alexandra, Stephen Mills, and Christa. The couple divorced in 1984. The heiress currently resides in The Plains, Virginia.

In addition to her work with Mars, the heiress is a trustee of the United States Equestrian team. She is also a board member with the Washington National Opera.

Jacqueline Badger Mars has expressed deep regret for the tragic accident. She has not commented on the reckless driving charge, nor has her attorney. She is expected in court on December 5.
