Peyton Manning Misses Denver Broncos Practice For Second Consecutive Week

For the second week in a row, quarterback Peyton Manning is skipping practice with the Denver Broncos.

Manning was sidelined last Wednesday with ankle issues, alongside Wes Welker, Eric Decker, Julius Thomas, Orlando Franklin, Chris Kuper, Joel Dreessen, Champ Bailey, and Shaun Phillips. The Denver Post reports that Peyton manning and the rest of that crew sat again Tuesday, this time joined by Duke Ihenacho.

“He’s not going to get a whole lot of reps the next two days, I’ll tell you that,” Denver Head Coach John Fox said via the Denver Post.

For Peyton Manning not to be working early in the Broncos’ bye week isn’t really a big deal. But coming on the news that Manning has not one but two ankle sprains makes it a bit more serious conversation. Per reports, Manning suffered both sprains October 13 against Jacksonville. Manning then aggravated them in the loss against Indianapolis and played on the sprains in Sunday’s win over Washington.

“I know there’s always a lot of speculation when I’m injured. So I’m going to go on the injury report starting now under ‘body’ and keep me there all season. That’s what I’m going to go with,” Peyton Manning joked post-game Sunday.

In Peyton Manning’s absence, Broncos backup Brock Osweiler will take the snaps in practice. Of course, he’ll be doing it without the top offensive starters in Welker, Decker and Thomas.

The other word on Peyton Manning this week is “spoiler,” as in spoiler of Mike Shanahan’s return to Denver, where he’d coached for 14 seasons. Manning’s three 4th-quarter TD passes capped a comeback against Shanahan’s visiting Washington Redskins, who’d led 21-14 heading into the final frame.

“I was just disappointed,” Shanahan said. “We were up 21-7. All we had to do was get a couple drives offensively going, keep Denver off the field, and we could have dictated the outcome of the game. But a credit to them.”

Washington committed five turnovers in the game, the last of which was turned into a 75-yard return by Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

What do you think of Peyton Manning’s season? Can Peyton Manning stay healthy the rest of the season? How far can Denver go with a healthy Peyton Manning?
