Nicole Kidman Admits Tom Cruise Wasn’t Her ‘Great Love,’ Calls Relationship ‘Intoxicating’

Although Nicole Kidman said that her relationship with Tom Cruise was “intoxicating,” she admitted that the Mission: Impossible star wasn’t her “great love.”

The award-winning actress recently dished on her marriage to the actor during an interview with Vanity Fair magazine. Although Kidman said the two were involved in a “deeply romantic” relationship, the two eventually went their separate ways in 2001.

According to Nicole Kidman, the only people on the entire planet who might understand what she and Tom Cruise had during their marriage are fellow Hollywood A-listers Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

“There is something about that sort of existence that, if you really focus on each other and you’re in that bubble, it’s very intoxicating, because it’s just the two of you,” the actress explained.

Kidman added, “And there is only one other person that’s going through it. So it brings you very close, and it’s deeply romantic. I’m sure Brad and Angelina have that — because there’s nobody else that understands it except that person who’s sleeping right next to you.”

Nicole Kidman is currently married to country star and American Idol judge Keith Urban. Although she doesn’t mean any disrespect to her ex-husband, the Grace of Monaco star said Urban is her “great love.” However, Kidman admitted that she didn’t think it was ever going to happen.

“I wanted it, but I didn’t want it for a while, because I didn’t want to jump from one relationship to another. I had a lot of time alone, which was really, really good, because I was a child, really, when I got married. And I needed to grow up,” Kidman told the magazine.

Although the two are happily married, Keith Urban said scheduling family time is a little “tricky” these days. According to USA Today, Urban recently explained how they make everything work during his appearance on Ellen.

The country singer told DeGeneres:

“I always structure my tours so that I’m never gone for weeks at a time. I’ll do three shows in a row. Be home for three or four days, go back and do three or four shows, and that works out good until Idol comes along and fills in those days in between. And that is doable until then a film comes along and that shoots in London. And, we’re like, ‘OK, we’ll figure this out.’ So we just make it work.”
