Sylvester Stallone A Painter, Who Knew?
Sylvester Stallone is known as an action type of guy, but he has another side to his artistic self, he is a painter and recently opened an exhibit to showcase his creations in St. Petersburg, Russia. Who knew?
The Rocky and Rambo star is displaying his personal collection of artwork, titled “Sylvester Stallone. Art. 1975-2013”, at the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg.
The 30 piece collection was created by Sylvester Stallone, 67, in the last four decades and according to the actor he is “a much better painter than an actor”, as he told those attending the opening of the exhibit on Monday.
“It’s much more personal and I’m allowed to just do what I want to do. Quite often in acting you have to play a certain part, you cannot speak as much as you want to speak. I suppose the heroes don’t talk much, you have to be very stoic.”
In case you didn’t know, Stallone studied art before making it big in the movie business and has had other exhibits in Switzerland and Miami.
The show opened to about 1,000 people who were anxiously waiting in line.
Sylvester Stallone told journalists, “I hope you will like my pictures” and added he never expected to have his art pieces to be shown in a museum.

Museum director Vladimir Gusev said Stallone’s paintings “show the character of a passionate man” and were not simply “the work of an amateur”.
“This is a real artist,” he told journalists. “The Russian museum does not show weak artists.”
The museum has drawn criticism for showing Sylvester Stallone’s paintings and some have called it a travesty.
Stallone isn’t fazed and says if his art challenges somebody “let it be so”.
The museum holds a modern art collection including works by artists like the controversial Andy Warhol, which is not located in its main building.
Sylvester Stallone’s art exhibit will be on display for a month. Did you know “Rocky” was a painter?
