The Bitstrips app is the latest viral craze to sweep the mobile world and it makes Facebook pages a whole lot more fun. The app just launched its 1.1.7 version for the iPhone, iPod and iOS users and is now number one in the free section on the apps store and google play.
The Bitstrips app already boasts 10 million users and it claims to be "the most customizable avatar-creation tool on the Web," which enables users to make comics of themselves and other friends and share them.
There are more than 1,000 templates to choose from and new ones are added daily. Users can create comics about their life, their status or just about anything and share them via social media platforms like Facebook.
So what made the Bitstrips app so popular so fast? A few months back, Venturebeat.com said the app was "the hottest startup you've never heard of," after it got 10 million users in just seven months.
The Bitstrips app is slated to be "the next step in the evolution of social media" as users personalize the cartoon templates to make thousands or even millions of variations. A staggering 50 million unique cartoons were shared by July.
Ceo of Bitstrips, Jacob Blackstock, told the Baltimore Sun that even though it's a comic, the Bitstips app is not a game: "Bitstrips is hard to categorize because it's not a game. It's a new way to express yourself and interact with your friends. Instead of posting the same things as everyone else, you can create something that relates to your life."
