Some amazing photos of Benedict Cumberbatch in action, filming for The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug are making the rounds online.
The photos show Cumberbatch in action in front of a green screen, making what presumably are the dragon’s movements.
The British actor’s appearance in Desolation Of Smaug is highly anticipated by fans and has been kept secret for about two years. Kudos to director Peter Jackson for the almost impossible feat, in the days of internet and 24/7 news.
Now, finally, some photos of what it was like for the thesp to film the evil creature are surfacing and it gives us a good perspective of the intensity of the role.
Much like Andy Serkis, who plays Gollum in motion capture, Benedict Cumberbatch has to do all the movements the dragon makes for his scenes and it looks pretty exhausting.
Desolation Of Smaug will give us a first good look at the dragon created by J.R.R. Tolkien in his novel The Hobbit, which Jackson brings to life in his latest trilogy.
The images are said to be screencaptures of The Hobbit Extended Edition special features (available to download from iTunes now), according to Tolkien Nerd on Flickr.
