Fernando Tatis Jr's 80-game suspension wasn't just a massive blow for the San Diego Padres, but also for Major League Baseball.

It once again hurts the credibility of a league that's struggling to keep up with other Major Sports tournaments and tarnishes the reputation of one of the most exciting players to watch nowadays.

Tatis Jr tested positive for Clostebol, an anabolic steroid that has been banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency and has led to multiple suspensions in recent times, so it's not like it was a surprise.

Nonetheless, considering it was all allegedly due to a ringworm treatment, Fernando Tatis Sr. gave MLB an earful in a recent appearance on 'The Midday Show:'

"I don't think there was reason to destroy the image of a player over something as minor as that," Tatis Sr. said.

Tatis Sr. argues that suspending one of the best players in the game will only hamper the product, up to the point where some people in his native Dominican Republic won't even tune in:

"This is a catastrophe what has taken place, not just for Jr., but for all of baseball. There are millions of fans who are gonna stop watching baseball now. It's a total disappointment for Dominican fans, fans throughout the world, for something so insignificant that wasn't worth it," Tatis Sr. continued.

He also claims that, even though Clostebol is a banned substance, it's not a PED o something that'll boost his performance:

"It's a topical. What came out positive in Jr.'s body is something that doesn't give you strength, first of all, doesn't amplify your [weight-training] regimen, that's second, doesn't have any testosterone, that's third, doesn't contain absolutely anything that would give you an edge in the game," he added. "What has occurred is a catastrophe for baseball."

No One Plays Like His Son

Tatis Sr. defended his son and his passion for the game and claimed that he'd go back stronger and better than ever:

"There's something that nobody will ever be able to take away: the grace with which Fernando plays the game," Tatis Sr. concluded. "There's no human being who will ever be able to take that away."

It's a big shame that he won't be doing what he does best on the field, especially over a non-PED substance. But the rules are the rules, and he should've known better.
