The 2022 NBA trade deadline concluded with the Brooklyn Nets being forced to break their "Big Three" of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden. After he expressed his desire to leave and specifically demanded a trade to the City of Brotherly Love, the Nets have decided to send Harden to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for a trade package centered on Ben Simmons. Simmons is expected to fill the huge hole left by Harden on the Nets' roster. However, some people also consider him as a valuable trade chip that the Nets would use to improve their roster this summer.

In a recent article, Kenneth Teape of NBA Analysis Network created a list of potential trade targets for the Nets in the deal involving Simmons. These include De'Aaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings. According to Teape, the Nets should strongly consider swapping Simmons for Fox if Irving leaves in the 2022 NBA free agency.

"If that occurs, the Nets will be on the lookout for a new starting point guard," Teape said. "So, why not engage in some trade talks with one of the teams that pursued Ben Simmons before he was traded to the Nets? Simmons for De’Aaron Fox rumors persisted for a while, and while nothing came to fruition, the Kings may still be willing to listen now."

Fox would be a great addition to the Nets, especially if Irving really ends up leaving Brooklyn this summer. He may not be good as Irving right now, but he could help the Nets remain competitive in the Eastern Conference in the 2022-23 NBA season. Fox would give the Nets a young floor general and a prolific scorer.

This season, the 24-year-old point guard is averaging 23.2 points, 5.6 assists, and 1.2 steals while shooting 47.3 percent from the field. If Fox could further improve his three-point shooting and perimeter defense, the tandem of him and Durant would give the Nets a realistic chance of competing for the NBA championship title next year.

As of now, the Kings haven't shown a strong indication that they are planning to move Fox this summer. Despite their struggle in the 2021-22 NBA season, the Kings remain committed to building a title-contending team around Fox. However, it won't be a surprise if the Kings explore trading Fox for Simmons.

The Kings have long been interested in adding Simmons to their roster. When the drama between him and the Sixers started, the Kings were one of the first teams that called Philadelphia's front office regarding a potential blockbuster deal.

Simmons may not have shown a strong indication that he's not happy with the Nets, but he might be intrigued by the idea of joining a rebuilding team like the Kings. Unlike with the Nets where he's only the third fiddle behind Irving and Durant, Simmons would have the opportunity to become the face of the franchise in Sacramento. Though it wouldn't put him closer to winning his first NBA championship title, having a fresh start on a young team could help Simmons regain his confidence and find his way back to the path to becoming a legitimate superstar in the league.
