Bruce Campbell finally gave fans what they've been waiting for. The beloved cult actor recently declared that he will reprise his role as Ash in Army of Darkness 2.
After Sam Raimi confirmed that he was working on another installment of his Evil Dead movies, many wondered if the Burn Notice star would return as everyone's favorite chainsaw-wielding hero. During his appearance at the Wizard World Comic-Con in Nashville, Bruce Campbell said he plans to return to the series.
"The last one was twenty-two years ago. Ash would have to stop occasionally from chasing some Deadite to catch his breath. That would be exciting. Fight in a walker. Hit them with my cane. Fake them out, have a fake heart attack, distract a zombie. I like it," he said.
Although this may not sound like a confirmation, Bruce Campbell eventually revealed that he fully intends to return to the Evil Dead franchise in the near future.
"Alright sir, the answer is yes," he said.
Mainstream interest in the film series took off when Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead remake hit the big screen earlier this year. The gory $17 million horror flick was a huge success at the box office, grossing upwards of $97 million worldwide. A sequel is in the works.
Prior to the film's release, the director said he would love to cross over his remakes with Sam Raimi's original series. However, it's unclear if Bruce Campbell intends to participate in this flick as well.
The Inquisitr previously reported that Campbell doesn't seem to care what Sam Raimi and his brother Ivan cook up for Army of Darkness. The actor seems extremely excited to work with his long-time friend one more time.
"I'm sure Sam will concoct some ridiculous story and an outrageous journey, so I don't really care where it starts and ends. The fun thing is working again with Sam Raimi. That's the only reason to do these incredibly difficult movies than work for a guy who you really like working with and who you respect," Bruce Campbell said.
He added, "He could be smoking cigars at a lakeside cabin for all I know, or he might actually be working, who knows?"
Bruce Campbell originally portrayed Ash in the acclaimed 1981 horror flick Evil Dead. He reprised that role six years later in Sam Raimi's Evil Dead 2, a film that set the proverbial stage for the 1992 cult favorite Army of Darkness. This writer is definitely excited to see the actor tackle the character once again.
