Beauty Trumps Happiness: Why This Mother Thinks Beauty Is The Most Important Attribute For Daughter

Polly Phillips is a 33-year-old mother to a 21-month-old little girl who is very vocal about her desire for her daughter to be beautiful.

Phillips says that beauty is the thing she hopes for most for her little girl, even over happiness. She notes that though the desire may seem superficial, it would make her daughter’s life much easier, and isn’t that what all parents want? Phillips notes that attractive woman are more likely to succeed in life and that beauty would keep her daughter from having the same self-esteem issues she had throughout her childhood.

The Daily Mail reports that 33-year-old Polly Phillips is not ashamed to admit that her greatest desire for her daughter is to be beautiful. Phillips says that beauty is the most important attribute in a young girl, and that it will pave the way to greater success in life. Polly claims that while most mothers say they want “happiness” or “wisdom” for their daughters, she simply wants the attribute that will get her furthest in life. According to Polly, that attribute is beauty.

“I just want her to be pretty. In today’s world, sadly I think that beauty will get her further than all of the qualities the other mums listed put together.”

Polly says she knows first hand the hurdles that can be placed in life when you aren’t beautiful, as she says she struggled from a series of “unfortunate haircuts” that had her confused for a boy. As a teen, she says she suffered from greasy hair and acne, all of which left her with little self-esteem. Therefore, Polly hopes that her daughter won’t experience the same hardships.

“Being born beautiful breeds an innate sense of confidence and self-worth that equip you to deal with the ups and downs of growing up. And then, once you’re past the turbulent teenage years, that unshakeable confidence that comes with being attractive can help you climb the career ladder quicker than your contemporaries.”

Interestingly, despite her struggles with her looks, Polly Phillips seems to be doing just fine. Phillips is married to a wealthy petroleum engineer and gloats about “wife bonuses” that she receives from her husband that reach the seven figures. Polly says she receives upwards of $150,000 to spend on whatever luxury items she wants, such as a Burberry raincoat or Christian Louboutin shoes. Though the mother talks about increasing her daughter’s success by increasing her beauty, the “beauty-challenged” Polly seems to have obtained plenty of success without that leg up.

In fact, Polly is sure to point out that being a stay-at-home mom is a noble form of employment and worthy of every penny she receivers from her husband.

“[Being a stay-at-home mom] is just as worthy of a wage as going out to a job outside the home.”

Therefore, is seems that Polly has two conflicting points of view. One noting that career success and happiness in life can better be achieved if one starts off life beautiful, the other that the lack of beauty can be overcome and that what the world views as a “career” is not always necessary.

Do you think Polly Phillips is simply putting her own desire for beauty as a child on her daughter, or do you truly think that she believes beauty will give her daughter a better chance at a good life?
