Mike Tyson was never officially apart of the WWE, but that isn’t stopping him from joining Wrestling’s Hall of Fame. Tyson, who was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame last year, will soon join the WWE Hall of Fame.

World Wrestling Entertainment announced today that Tyson would be inducted on March 31st at AmericanAirlines Arena, the night before WrestleMania XXVVIII.

Tyson said:

“I am honored to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. I was the youngest heavyweight champion of all time, but the most fun I ever had in the ring was with WWE.”

ESPN reports that Tyson appeared on Monday Night Raw in 1998 after he was suspended from boxing for pulling a WWE like move (biting off Evander Holyfield’s ear) in the boxing ring. Tyson fought Stone Cold Steve Austin and was later named the special enforcer for WrestleMania XIV.

Tyson even delivered the knockout blow after Michaels disputed his officiating.

Here are some highlights from WrestleMania 14.

Tyson made another appearance on Monday Night Raw in 2010 in a tag-team match with Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels and Triple H.

Tyson will join the WWE Hall of Fame celebrity ring. Drew Carey, Bob Uecker, Pete Rose, and William “The Refrigerator” Perry are all members of the WWE Hall of Fame.

Edge, The Four Horsemen and Mil Mascaras, will also be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this March.

Tim Tebow’s personal faith and jaw-dropping, flabbergasting performance as the Denver Broncos quarterback isn’t just getting the attention of middle-class WASPy folks anymore. Tebow’s use of “3:16″ in particular has caught the attention of none other than Stone Cold Steve Austin, who if you remember, used the “3:16″ in his own career as a professional wrestler when Tebow was in grade school.

We were there. Here look. We reported on the three Tim Tebow coincidences surrounding the Bible verse John 3:16 that occurred during the Sunday game against the Steelers. Though there were three coincidences, and since three is also a significant number in Christianity, maybe that’s four coincidences…

Anyway, Austin took note of the coincidence as well. The former wrestler, who used “Austin 3:16″ in the 90′s as tough-guy-talk (“Austin 3:16 says I just whooped your ass!” were the exact words, but it’s not in my copy of the Bible…) said that “Austin 3:16 still rules,” but added:

“If Tebow can throw for 316 yards again this weekend then hell, he can have the numbers and I’ll have no problem with it.”

Austin went on to clarify an admiration for Tebow:

“I wish him all the luck in the world,” Austin says, “I’m not a Denver fan but Tim’s a great role model for kids.”

Aw. There is a heart behind every Stone Cold Stunner after all!

I’m mostly in the minority around here, but I have to admit, I love me some Tebow. It was kind of cool to see a celebrity give him props instead of picking a fight.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been ordered by a federal judge in South Carolina to perform 40 hours of community service after the prize fighter failed to give his deposition in a recent court case. Mayweather said he was recuperating form injuries he sustained during a fight however it was later learned he was actually partying at a nightclub the night before he was set to appear in court.

For his community service Mayweather Jr. will be placed with the Las Vegas Habitat for Humanity Project where he must complete his 40 hours of work before the end of January. If his work is not completed in the allotted time U.S. District Judge Joseph F. Anderson Jr. has promised further penalties.

The lawsuit stems from a claim by Anthony Dash that Mayweather, his production company and World Wrestling Entertainment sampled Dash’s music without his permission when Mayweather performed for the WWE in 2008 and 2009.

The original deposition was set for the July date but was moved to the end of September after Mayweather’s lawyers asked for more time since the fighter was training for a match.

Three days before he was set to appear for his deposition Mayweather asked for a delay to recover from injuries, Mayweather claimed his doctor told him to remove stress until results from his MRI were revealed. Mayweather’s lawyer insisted Mayweather was not partying up until the time that Dash’s lawyers provided video proof from the Echelon 3000 club outside Atlanta where he was seen throwing money into the crowd and burning bills.

Judge Anderson after giving Mayweather community service ordered Mayweather to pay Dash’s lawyer expenses cause by the delay.

In his decision to order Mayweather to community service rather than issuing a fine Anderson wrote:

“At the parties in question, Mayweather can be seen burning money, allegedly one-hundred dollar bills, while in another video he throws money into the crowd. Mayweather often advertises himself using the moniker ‘Money Mayweather’ and his production company is Philthy Rich Records. Suffice it to say that Mayweather has substantial personal wealth.”

Perhaps he can do some heavy lifting on the job site to get his training in, unless of course he continues to act like an entitled brat and comes up with new lies to avoid his court order.

Former WWE Star Tyson Tomko was arrested in Florida on Monday after he was caught injecting stolen pain medicine while hiding out in a Chili’s restaurant bathroom.

Tomko, a wrestler from 2002 through 2009 has been accused of robbing a CVS Pharmacy on October 10th after he threatened to attack the pharmacist if they didn’t hand over several bottles of the prescription narcotic Oxycodone.

According to the pharmacist Tomko made off with 210 tablets of the drug. After stealing the prescription pills Tomko asked a Chili’s server for a spoon, when she return he asked for a “deeper” spoon and then headed into the bathroom for 30 to 40 minutes.

When restaurant staff realized that something was wrong local police were tipped off and found Tomko in the bathroom with ”needle marks and blood running down his arm”

According to the official police report Tomko was flushing something down the toilet when police arrived in the restroom bathroom.

After being taken into custody Tomko told police he had a “severe drug problem.”

Before being apprehended police say he crushed up and melted down 178 pills which he then injected into his body. Tomoko is adamant in his claim that he never threatened the pharmacist.

After being taken to a local hospital for observation Tomko was booked for robbery and his bond was set at $7,500.

Given the dependence on pain killers that many professional athletes rely on does it surprise you that a 7-year veteran of the WWE developed an addiction to powerful pain medications such as Oxycodone?

Triple H vs. Kermit the Frog? It’s not quite the type of match up I would think about during a normal WWE match but the Muppets will be throwing down when they appear for a special event on Oct. 31.

The Muppets will take center stage during an airing of USA’s WWE Raw and the event will air live form Atlanta Georgia.

While I wouldn’t put all my money in Kermit’s corner if he has Miss Piggy by his side for a tag team match they might have a chance, after all we’ve all seen how Miss Piggy can throw down when someone messes with her little green obsession.

The appearance on WWE is meant to promote the introduction of Disney’s The Muppets which stars Jason Segal and Amy Adams. The movie opens on Thanksgiving weekend.

Dwayne “The Rock’ Johnson took to his Twitter page today to pay his respect to his “childhood inspiration” Macho Man Randy Savage.

Johnson Tweeted:

“RIP Randy “Macho Man” Savage – you were one of my childhood inspirations and heros. Strength, love and prayers to the Savage/Poffo family.”

Also chiming in on Twitter was WWE star Kevin Nash who posted:

“I lost a close friend today. If anybody in heaven is wondering who the cat in the ugly cowboy hat is it’s Randy. Love you Bro. Never another.”

While Mick Foley (Mankind) told TMZ:

“Though I only met Randy Savage a handful of times, he was one of my all-time favorite performers … I loved his style, in the ring and on the microphone.”

As a child I use to countdown the days until Macho Man, The Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan would take to the ring, my three all-time favorites, while I haven’t watched the WWE in years it’s still a sad day for one of my childhood heroes.

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi of Jersey Shore fame took some time out of her reality TV show schedule this week to appear at Wrestlemania XXVII and while we were more than prepared to make fun of the party girl, what we ended up with was one really cool finishing move.

Maybe not the most exciting finishing move in WWE history, but the fans sure seemed to like it. Just a quick note, Nicole was a cheerleader in high school, so we should have seen it coming, but admittedly I was stunned.

Ok, I can admit that I am a big time mark for pro wrestling, and since it is a slow sports news day I need to take a minute to talk about the most exciting event of the year. The Royal Rumble is by far the most entertaining, and popular Pay Per View event in the WWE. Think about that for a moment, it is far better in terms of audience and usually entertainment to the Super Bowl of Wrestling Wrestlemania. It is the one match I still watch every year, and yet WWE is messing with teh formula.

See, the business of pro wrestling is way down now. It has been ever since WWE Chairman Vince McMahon bought out his competition in 2001. Now the creative team is changing the Royal Rumble from 30 men to 40. It may not sound like much, but I can tell you this the WWE roster does not have 20 guys I want to see wrestle much less 40.

In recent years we have seen the WWE do a lot of odd things. They have disrespected former members of their roster, devalued their title belts, and really floundered along. Now they are really messing with something new and old school fans hold dear. The Royal Rumble is the one chance to win fans back and gear up for Wrestlemania, but in typical WWE fashion they believe bigger is better.

It seems kind of odd to me to do this on the 24th anniversary of this event. If changes needed to be made (and that is debatable since the Royal Rumble is the one thing about the current WWE that actually works) why mess with the formula now? It makes little sense to be, much like watching an actual WWE match these days.

I know many of you might not care about this, but I feel a real kinship with the old XFL. It was with this league that I got my first sports writing job, and it was the first sports league I interviewed with. I often wonder what might have been, but alas the XFL lasted only one year lost about 50 million bucks, and ever since people have pointed the finger to why the league failed and who actually pulled the plug on the struggling sports franchise.

The accepted truth for a long time was that NBC wanted out, after losing a ton of cash in a really lame attempt to get back at the NFL for signing a TV deal with CBS it seemed NBC had had enough. However there have always been rumors that UPN and a few others wanted to keep going. The accepted truth was that UPN offered Vince McMahon a deal, keep on with the UFL but cut the Smack down WWE show by half an hour to an hour. We have heard Vince was unwilling to do that and the league was shipped out to pasture.

Now with Linda McMahon running for a Senate seat a lot of interesting tid bits have come out. The most surprising of all is that ESPN was willing to air XFL games in year two. That is pretty surprising that NBC backed way off, and ESPN was ready to step in. This move would surely have grown the XFL fan base, and given the league a real chance at survival.

In the end it seems that what killed the XFL was that is was not a sport, it was just a TV show. NBC and Vince McMahon thought they could run a sports league the same way Vince ran his wrestling empire. He though he could inject storylines into the game of football and turn that sport into a weekly soap opera for guys much the way the WWE TV product does. What killed the XFL was the premise turned out to not be a good one, and sports fans want sports not entertainment.

Former wrestler Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart has been arrested on drug charges.

Neidhart, who wrestled with the WWF (now WWE) in the 80s and 90s and partnered with Bret Hart during that time, was busted Sunday after he attracted the attention of law enforcement officers and was then observed taking pills:

Just before 3 p.m. Sunday, Neidhart was pumping gas at the A.J. Food Market, 9806 Tom Folsom Road, Thonotosassa, when he began yelling and causing a disturbance, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s arrest report said he was seen opening pill bottles located in the trunk of his silver Pontiac Sunfire.

When deputies arrived at the scene, he was agitated and aggressive. He was observed “ingesting multiple pills that he dropped on the ground while inside the trunk of his vehicle,” the sheriff’s office arrest report states.

According to TBO, Neidhart possessed 55.6 grams of Oxycontin and 17.4 grams of methadone.The sheriff’s office for the arresting jurisdiction said the pills were prescribed to a friend of Neidhart, Mary Cutillo. Cutillo reported that her home had been burglarized and that the medication had been stolen, and Neidhart is alleged to have entered Cutillo’s home illegally through a back door, lifting the $300 worth of pills.

According to an arrest report, he was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of trafficking in illegal drugs, one count of burglary and one count of grant theft. He has not yet been granted bail.

Former WWE wrestler Gertrude “Luna” Vachon was found dead today at her mother’s home in Florida.

Information about Vachon’s cause of death and the circumstances surrounding her passing was scant, but the WWE released a statement expressing condolences to the female wrestler’s family and briefly summarizing her career:

Ms. Vachon was under contract with WWE at various times from 1993 through 2000, and performed under the name “Luna” Vachon. She last performed for WWE in early 2000.

Vachon worked with the WCW, ECW and WWF in the 90s through 2000, managing wrestlers Goldust and Bam Bam Bigelow. According to the Baltimore Sun, she had been staying at her mother’s house in recent weeks because hers had burned down. Vachon has a WWE alumni page that briefly describes her career:

As the niece of WWE Hall of Famer Mad Dog Vachon, the bizarre Luna Vachon carried on a familial legacy of in-ring madness.

No information has yet been disclosed about plans for a memorial service or funeral.

Lance McNaught, better known to wrestling fans as Lance Cade, has died of apparent heart failure at the age of 29.

The WWE, who discontinued Lance Cade’s contract in April, confirmed the wrestler’s death in a statement on their website today:

“World Wrestling Entertainment was informed Friday morning by Lance McNaught’s father that he has passed away of apparent heart failure. WWE extends its deepest condolences to the McNaught family. Mr. McNaught was under contract beginning March 2003, performing under the name ‘Lance Cade,’ and was released October 2008. He returned to FCW, WWE’s developmental territory, in September 2009, and was released in April 2010.”

Cade’s initial release from WWE in 2008 was due to an incident on a plane, and his second release last April is said to be related to an addiction to sleeping pills. Some of his WWE compatriots have commented on the wrestler’s passing and offered their condolences. Cade’s mentor Shawn Michaels tweeted:

“My prayers and thoughts have already been given to his family and will continue. Goodbye Lance I love you.”

Mick Foley commented:

“I am very sorry to hear about the passing of Lance Cade. Only 29 — I had no idea he was so young. My thoughts go out to his family.”

No information has been made available about funeral or memorial services for the wrestler.

Professional wrestler Chris Klucsaritis, better known by his stage name of Chris Kanyon, was found dead in his Queens apartment Friday night of an apparent suicide.

Official cause of death has not been determined, but initial reports say the wrestler was found with “with scores of pills near his body” in his Sunnyside apartment. Klucsaritis, 40, started his career with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) before moving to the WWE where he was one of the first openly gay wrestlers. He retired in 2004.

The WWE released a statement on their website expressing condolences to Klucsaritis’ friends and family:

“World Wrestling Entertainment would like to express its deepest condolences to Christopher Klucsaritis’ family and friends on his tragic passing.”

Police sources tell the New York Daily News that Chris Kanyon’s death is being investigated as a suicide.

Former World Wrestling Entertainment champion Andrew Martin was found dead at his Florida apartment Friday night.

33 year old Martin, known as both The Punisher and Test, had previously held the Intercontinental, European and Hardcore Wrestling belts, and was also a tag-team champion.

A neighbor spotted Martin’s body through a window, and Police say there is no indication of foul play.

The cause of death won’t be determined until after an autopsy, but speculation suggests that drugs may be involved.

Mickey Rourke is taking his interest in wrestling on the screen to real life, with a bout scheduled to take place in Wrestlemania 25 in Houston April 5 between Rourke and Chris Jericho.

“So come Wrestlemania 25 in Houston, I’m going to toss him around the ring like tossed salad. Chris Jericho, you better get in shape” said Rourke.

Jericho, appearing on WWE television, said, “You are out of line. It’s one thing to play a wrestler in a movie, something entirely different to actually be one. Your comments offended me. You made a mistake. It’s the last thing that you and Ric Flair want to do, and that’s offend Chris Jericho.”

Rourke is taking guidance from wrestling legend Ric Flair.

WWE Wrestler Jeff Hardy is alleged to have been involved in a hit and run accident this morning (Friday), but before you get sucked in, it’s yet another fake angle to televised wrestling.

According to the WWE: “Jeff Hardy and his girlfriend Beth were involved in a hit and run automobile accident earlier this morning in North Carolina. Both Jeff and Beth were injured during the accident, but no ambulance was called to the scene.”

The alleged hit and run included “exclusive video footage from the police cruiser on the scene, as well as an exclusive interview with Jeff Hardy.” To juice the story up some more, rival boxer Christian was implied to have been driving the car that left the scene.

One small problem though: the footage aired in most overseas markets last night, before the supposed accident took place.

The Jeff Hardy accident video below. The other thing to note is the clarity of the footage from the police cruiser, and the sound. The darkness in the footage seems to have been computer generated to imply it came from a real cruiser, but compare it to footage from real accidents, and you’ll see the difference, the sound is also very clear compared to what you’d expect. Also there’s nothing on Google about a CAPD in North Carolina, but we can’t be 100% certain.
