Activision is working on a follow-up to DJ Hero, its Guitar Hero spin-off that nobody bought.

We’re not supposed to know about the sequel, but loose-lipped French DJ David Guetta let the cat out of the bag in an interview with Canadian newspaper Kelowna. “I think it’s amazing, this game,” burbled Guetta, who has already “laid down” some “beats” as part of downloadable content for the original title. “I’m going to work on the number two version.”

So yeah, I’d say sequel confirmed.

That’s good news, because while the first DJ Hero only saw modest sales, it did earn favorable reviews and defied my personal expectations by being rather enjoyable – even if it didn’t hook me in the way early Guitar Hero games managed.

A Karachi-based gamer has revealed that a new Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer map set in his home city is covered with a language that is never used in Pakistan.

Saad points out that English and Urdu are the main two languages in Pakistan, yet the new level is smothered in slogans, shop signs, and scenery with Arabic. Whoops. In an email to Kotaku, Saad noted:

“[Developer] Infinity Ward probably thought, ‘Oh hey its a Muslim country so Arabic is the language.’”

He adds that, although Arabic and Urdu use a similar script, words are formed in completely different ways.

While Infinity Ward surely meant no harm by this, it is extremely sloppy research – especially as a three-second visit to Wikipedia solves the issue. I don’t blame Saad or anyone else who’s miffed at this. It’s culturally insensitive, not to mention disappointing: a bit like your favourite blog suddenly deciding to erscheinen Sie in einer verschiedenen Sprache.

Despite winning a Popular Mechanics award for being one of the “most brilliant” products of 2009 sight-unseen, the mythical CrunchPad TechCrunch tablet has dissolved into a cloud of ill-will and bitchy sniping, much to the surprise of absolutely no one.

Many techy types were skeptical about the hype surrounding the never-existing project- earlier this month, Wired questioned whether the CrunchPad was “still alive.” Vocal through the summer before abruptly shutting up about the CrunchPad, Michael Arrington declined comment on the piece, but up until today did not indicate the the ambitious tablet was in any jeopardy- despite an ever increasing hypothetical price tag, lack of actual product, and looming Apple tablet on the horizon (possibly killing any interest in the CrunchPad to begin with.)

Details behind the implosion aren’t immediately clear- it’s claimed that FusionGarage conveniently booted Arrington/TechCrunch from the project with no warning:

Bizarrely, we were being notified that we were no longer involved with the project. Our project. [partner and Fusion Garage CEO, Chandra Rathakrishnan] said that based on pressure from his shareholders he had decided to move forward and sell the device directly through Fusion Garage, without our involvement.

Err, what? This is the equivalent of Foxconn, who build the iPhone, notifiying Apple a couple of days before launch that they’d be moving ahead and selling the iPhone directly without any involvement from Apple.

But reading the recounting of the events leading up to the death of the project feels incomplete- was it a few days before launch? Are there millions of orphaned CrunchPads sitting in warehouses waiting to be distributed? Or is this just a case of maybe bloggers should stick to blogging and let manufacturers manufacture? Fusion Garage has yet to weigh in on Arrington’s accusations, and a technology consultant spoke to MSNBC about the likelihood that the CrunchPad ever would have seen the light of day:

“The device was actually very interesting, though it was trending to be much too expensive for anyone but an Apple-class vender to sell. Given they set expectations for initial price so low and then were unable to build a device that would meet those expectations I doubt the device would have been very successful.”

Tony Arambula is suing the police department in Phoenix, AZ for nearly $5.8m after an officer accidentally shot him, twice.

Officer Brian Lilly fired a total of four rounds at Arambula while responding to reports of an intruder in the Arambula home. The Phoenix PD released a statement yesterday acknowledging the mishap on September 17th of last year:

“…after entering the residence, one of the officers mistakenly shot the armed home owner.”

The press release goes on to say that the “department has been honest and forthright from the very onset of this incident. No attempt has been made to conceal the truth or the facts surrounding it.”

On the night of the shooting, Arambula and his wife say that they placed a 911 call, reporting that Arambula had cornered the intruder and was holding him at gunpoint. When officers arrived, his wife Lesley described the situation as such. Police entered and announced themselves, and Arambula was immediately shot in the back by Lilly. When he fell, he was shot at three more times and hit once again, in the arm. Lilly admitted to firing without warning.

Arambula says that he did everything he was supposed to in the situation:

“I would have loved if they would have told me to get on the floor and drop to my knees,” Arambula said. “To not have given me any opportunity to not get shot, it’s confusing. I pray that this never happens to another family.”
