The crazies of Westboro Baptist Church are at it again, this time announcing that the will picket the upcoming funeral of legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paterono who died on Sunday at the age of 85-years-old.

Speaking for her family (which pretty much makes up the congregation) Margie Phelps, daughter of Pastor Fred Phelps tweeted:

“Penn State Penn Rape” rings in Joe Paterno’s earns in hell” He partook of sin for fame & fortune.  Worth NOTHING to him now. #PicketFuneral.”

Perhaps if any member of the church knew how to read they would realize that while Joe Paterno was ultimately fired because the administration felt a change needed to be made they would have realized that following the “shower incidence” at Penn State it was Joe Paterno who handed the Jerry Sandusky case immediately over to school investigators. In fact a grand jury cleared the head coach of all wrongdoing in the case.

Earlier reports had stated that Joe Paterno attempted to cover up the incident but those accusations have repeatedly been shown to be rubbish.

Then again the wackadoo’s at Westboro Baptist Church are more about publicity then about god and relgion, they announced in October that they would picket the funeral of Apple founder Steve Jobs and they also picketed the Michael Jackson funeral and various other events including the funeral of a fallen American soldier.

Perhaps what the church is best known for is there “God Hates Fags” signs and their creepy connection to their own family members.

You can add awesome computers, music-changing iPods and revolutionary iPhones to the list of things God apparently hates according to the hate-spewing Westboro Baptist Church.

The outfit- headed up by prejudice-monger Fred Phelps and daughter Megan- has made a name for itself by harassing grieving families in their darkest hour, with practices like picketing the funerals of dead US soldiers with signs reading “Thank God for IEDs.” It’s clear there is no true biblical basis for their hatred, and anyone could see their behavior is directly contrary to the teachings of Christ. Their selection of any high profile deceased person is painfully obvious with news of their newest target- Apple founder Steve Jobs.

The outpouring of grief over the loss of Jobs at 56 is a testament to how valued his contribution to technology truly is. (Note: I am typing this on a MacBook.) Jobs was not known for any sort of embrace of sin or even general unpleasantness, but that hasn’t stopped the Westboro Baptist Church in their plans to intrude on his family’s grief with one of their vulgar demonstrations.

Megan Phelps gleefully used Twitter to announce the hate group’s plans to picket Jobs’ funeral:

“Westboro will picket his funeral. He had a huge platform; gave God no glory and taught sin… No peace for man who served self, not God. Westboro must picket.”

With much class, Phelps appended the hashtag #hellgreetedhim to her tweets, but the kicker is that the hatemonger-in-training made the announcement to Twitter from her iPhone. So if Jobs is guilty of some amorphous sin for making our world a bit more connected, surely the Phelpses will be joining him in eternal torment for supporting his alleged sinful empire?

The crazies from Westboro Baptist Church are at it again, this time taking to New York City where they plan to protest NYC Fashion Week.

According to church members the event is “Slutwalk extraordinaire” with one representative from the church proclaiming:

“The whole idea (of the) fashion industry is to make women look as whorish as possible and men look as effeminate as possible.”

The group will protest outside of the Lincoln Center’s tents on Saturday and that same rep tells the New York Post:

“All you are doing is teaching girls to be proud whores.” while adding, ”Put some jeans on and fear God.”

Lincoln Center officials are already planning extra security to ensure that the Westboro crazies do not “upset” or “offend” the fashion friendly crowd.

Apparently journalists aren’t too worried about Westboro, with one fashion journalist notied:

“I would probably attack them if they said anything to me.”

While a model added:

“If they’re looking homely, they won’t fit in.”

Also on the roster for the Westboro Baptist Church this month, picketing a Foo Fighters concert in Kansas on September 16 and the New York Jets-Dallas Cowboys game.

I hope the Westboro people hold up a sign at the Foo Fighters contest that reads “God Hates Foo” or something just as ridiculous.

In the meantime why wasn’t the group protesting the Victoria Secret Fashion Show, I’m pretty sure most of those women were wearing far less clothing than what will be witnessed at New York City Fashion Week.

The Westboro Baptist Church is famous for an anti-gay epithet posted on their signs for protests, but they seem to have accidentally misquoted God. Whoopsie!

The Queen of Mean, Lisa Lampanelli, may be known for her insult-based, super crass and racially offensive act.

But Lampanelli obviously isn’t all that mean- she used her ascerbic wit to concoct a scheme that really sticks it to the haters at the Westboro Baptist Church, no vaseline. We told you earlier this week about how Lisa planned to donate a grand a pop for each WBC loon that showed up to protest her show in Topeka. The money is slated to go to the established charity the Gay Men’s Health Crisis, which has for years worked with gay men suffering the devastating effects of HIV and AIDS.

So, how did it go? Well, 48 “inbred” protesters showed their faces at Lampanelli’s gig, and the comedienne decided to make the donation an even $50K. She’s going to present the check Monday directly to the Gay Men’s Health Crisis, confirmed on her Twitter account. Lampanelli and attendees counter-chanted at the fire-and-brimstone protesters, shouting, “we’re here! We’re queer! We take it in the rear!”

The Gay Men’s Health Crisis reacted to Lampanelli’s gesture:

“We are grateful for Lisa Lampanelli’s kindness and courage to fight homophobia… She is holding up a mirror to bigotry and hatred, and reflecting back love and generosity.”

The Westboro Baptist Church wants to protest the Lisa Lampanelli show tonight and she’s already won the battle of wits (not hard to do against those hatemongers). Hearing of the groups plans to protest Lampanelli announced that she will donate $1,000 to a pro-gray charity for every gay-bashing idiot who shows up at her show tonight in Topeka, Kansas.

According to the funny lady she will donate $1,000 for every protestor who shows up with that money going straight to the Gay Men’s Health Crisis, the oldest HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care services provider in the United States.

Speaking with TMZ she said of her decision:

“It’s gonna be hilarious to write out the checks to the GMHC and have them send thank you notes to the WBC for their ‘generous contributions.’”

“I’d love to see their inbred faces when they open those thank you notes! Hopefully their jaws will drop so fast that their three remaining teeth and cro-magnon foreheads will plummet to the floor.”

Good for you Lampanelli, now here’s to hoping the Westboro gets plenty of thank you letters. Perhaps even some nice Chippendales postcards for their efforts.

Damn you, Westboro Baptist Church, for making it necessary for signs like “Thank God for dead soldiers” and “AIDS cures fags” to be protected speech.

The highest court in the land has ruled in favor of the hate-spewing church in a ruling that every free speech proponent pretty much ever likely feels very squicky about supporting. The father of deceased marine Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder brought a suit against the church following Snyder’s 2006 funeral in Maryland, hoping to prevent other families to being exposed to the group’s notoriously upsetting invective during the funerals of loved ones- but the Supreme Court ruled 8-1 in favor of the church’s right to protest:

“Speech is powerful. It can stir people to action, move them to tears of both joy and sorrow, and — as it did here — inflict great pain. On the facts before us, we cannot react to that pain by punishing the speaker,” Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the majority.

Roberts continued:

“Westboro believes that America is morally flawed; many Americans might feel the same about Westboro. Westboro’s funeral picketing is certainly hurtful and its contribution to public discourse may be negligible,” he said. However, “As a nation we have chosen a different course — to protect even hurtful speech on public issues to ensure that we do not stifle public debate.”

Of the nine judges on the panel, Justice Samuel Alito was the sole dissenter.

Well it seems that according to Megan Phelps-Roper’s, granddaughter of church leader Fred Phelps, Twitter stream Westboro Baptist is up for the fight.

Time to get the popcorn folks because this could get interesting.

If there is one religious group that can be the epitome of slimy, hateful, and any other negative term you can think of it has to be the Westboro Baptist Church, which is led by the homophobic Fred Phelps.

They are also the religious group that take great pleasure out of picketing the funerals of those brave men and women who have dies in Iraq and Afghanistan displaying signs like God hates fags and other disgusting hate filled signage.

Well it appears that there is one group that has had enough of their gross displays of so-called religious fervor and they are not a group to be taken lightly as many have found out in the recent past.

The group taking up the battle cry against Westboro Baptist Church is none other than Anonymous, which for those who are not familiar with it is a loose knit; yet formidable, group of hactivists who have taken down more than their fair share of notable companies on the web.

Anonymous announced their intent to take on Westboro in an open letter that is really nothing less than an ultimatum to the church to cease and desist their disgusting actions.

TO THE CONGREGANTS OF WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH:

We, the collective super-consciousness known as ANONYMOUS – the Voice of Free Speech & the Advocate of the People – have long heard you issue your venomous statements of hatred, and we have witnessed your flagrant and absurd displays of inimitable bigotry and intolerant fanaticism. We have always regarded you and your ilk as an assembly of graceless sociopaths and maniacal chauvinists & religious zealots, however benign, who act out for the sake of attention & in the name of religion.
Being such aggressive proponents for the Freedom of Speech & Freedom of Information as we are, we have hitherto allowed you to continue preaching your benighted gospel of hatred and your theatrical exhibitions of, not only your fascist views, but your utter lack of Christ-like attributes. You have condemned the men and women who serve, fight, and perish in the armed forces of your nation; you have prayed for and celebrated the deaths of young children, who are without fault; you have stood outside the United States National Holocaust Museum, condemning the men, women, and children who, despite their innocence, were annihilated by a tyrannical embodiment of fascism and unsubstantiated repugnance. Rather than allowing the deceased some degree of peace and respect, you instead choose to torment, harass, and assault those who grieve.
Your demonstrations and your unrelenting cascade of disparaging slurs, unfounded judgments, and prejudicial innuendos, which apparently apply to every individual numbered amongst the race of Man – except for yourselves – has frequently crossed the line which separates Freedom of Speech from deliberately utilizing the same tactics and methods of intimidation and mental & emotional abuse that have been previously exploited and employed by tyrants and dictators, fascists and terrorist organizations throughout history.

ANONYMOUS cannot abide this behavior any longer. The time for us to be idle spectators in your inhumane treatment of fellow Man has reached its apex, and we shall now be moved to action. Thus, we give you a warning: Cease & desist your protest campaign in the year 2011, return to your homes in Kansas, & close your public Web sites.
Should you ignore this warning, you will meet with the vicious retaliatory arm of ANONYMOUS: We will target your public Websites, and the propaganda & detestable doctrine that you promote will be eradicated; the damage incurred will be irreversible, and neither your institution nor your congregation will ever be able to fully recover. The nutters at the Westboro Baptist Church, best known for their protests of military funerals and “god hates fags” signs have a new target in their sites: Twitter.

From 4:30-5:00pm local time Thursday (January 28,) Westboro members will be picketing outside the headquarters of Twitter in San Francisco.

Just what their gripe with Twitter is though isn’t immediately clear from their page on the picket, although naturally it has something to do with God.

“They have a duty to God just like every other person to serve God and to use ALL their resources in their service to him” reads the explanation for the picket. But along with using Twitter themselves (they’ll actually be tweeting from the picket line,) the Church may actually be in part defending Twitter, well, if you can define the sentence “Obama’s about to take away any/all resources like Twitter to serve him and his Antichristic agenda, so enjoy this freedom while it lasts a little longer” a defense of free speech.

The nut cases from the Westboro Baptist Church have moved on from picketing military funerals to American Idol runner up, the very happily gay Adam Lambert.

Members of the church were spotted holding their usual anti-gay signage outside of the HP Pavilion as the Top 10 finalists performed as part of the annual Idols Live Summer Tour. According to reports the nutters specifically targeted Lambert and suggested among other things that he would catch Aids and die.

Idol finalist Michael Sarver said that Lambert wasn’t affected by the demonstrators outside. “Adam is just fine, shakes it off and so should we” Sarver posted to his Twitter account. “We are together in this thing. You mess with one you mess with all ten. We are strong and we are 1. For those outside protesting I say do not judge less ye be judged yourself. Guys don’t mind these people, we are a strong family.”
