The arrival of 11/11/11 – the 11th day of November 2011 – has proven a big boost for the wedding industry. Couples worldwide have been rushing to get married on the notable date. Some of the wedding 11/11/11 stories include:

• 11 couples will be getting married at Florida’s Walt Disney World Resort. Disney’s marketing arm insists the number is a happy coincidence, but it is an unusually busy day for the resort. Friday’s weddings will take place at a variety of locations around the resort, including Disney’s Wedding Pavilion, Epcot, Disney’s Boardwalk and Disney’s Polynesian Resort, but sadly not the Back to the Future ride (that’s still going, right?) • Nevada’s wedding chapels will also be raking it in today. One George Flint, Chapel of the Bells owner, said he has 31 weddings already lined up for Friday. “There’s a bit of a stampede,” he understates to the Reno Gazette-Journal. “We can use it because the wedding business has suffered tremendously the last few years.” [Source]

• It’s not just the U.S. where grooms and brides are tramping to the nearest chapel – The Times of India reports a colossal surge in demand for both wedding planners and obstetricians to schedule ceremonies and deliveries respectively. “It’s an attractive date, no doubt, but in numerology all digits of the date have to be taken into account; 11/11/11 is actually 11/11/2011,” says numerologist Vivek Chopra, spoiling everybody’s fun. • Back in the US of A, eight military couples are to tie the knot at the Royal Oak Music Theatre in Detroit – 11/11/11, lest we forget, is also Veterans Day. [Source]

Wedding Fever Takes Hold on 11/11/11 is a post from: The Inquisitr

A Manhattan groom has sued his photographer over what he calls horrible wedding photographs that ruined his special day. If the lawsuit and story ended there it wouldn’t be the first of it’s kind we have witnessed but it takes a far stranger turn.

According to the New York Times the man waited six years to file his lawsuit and now he wants the company to recreate his entire wedding with a bride he divorced last year.

Not only are the bride and groom no longer a couple the bride would have to fly in from somewhere in Latvia to recreate the marriage that eventually led to the pain of divorce something she can’t be forced to do.

Todd J. Remis of Manhattan is asking for $4,100 to pay for the photographs plus an additional $48,000 to recreate his wedding which would include flying the weddings principals to New York so their photographs can be re-shot by a different photography studio.

In another amusing twist Justice Doris Ling-Cohan of State Supreme Court in Manhattan dismissed most of the complaint but allowed part of the case to move forward in regards to examining a possible “breach of contract.” In her January opinion she quoted lyrics from Barbra Streisand’s classic “The Way We Are” in which she says:

“This is a case in which it appears that the ‘misty watercolor memories’ and the ‘scattered pictures of the smiles … left behind’ at the wedding were more important than the real thing,” the judge wrote. “Although the marriage did not last, plaintiff’s fury over the quality of the photographs and video continued on.”

A fan of the Royal Family who couldn’t travel to London to see Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding due to illness has received a sweet slice of compensation – a piece of the wedding cake!

Mary Relph, 77, missed the ceremony in April after hurting her back. To make up for her disappointment, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall and stepmother to William, sent her a slice of cake with a personal note.

Camilla often chats to Mrs. Relph outside Sandringham church in Norfolk, so when she heard about the Royal superfan’s letdown, she was swift to act. The handwritten note that accompanied the cake read:

“A little bird told me you were unable to get to the wedding as you had injured your back. I hope this cake will help to alleviate this. With my best wishes, Camilla.”

Mary, whose Royal memorabilia collection includes a life-size cutout of Kate and William in her home along with plates, photos, and thimbles, has said she will never eat the cake. Instead, it shall take pride of place amongst the rest of her collection. She told the Daily Mail:

“I have no idea who told the Duchess of Cornwall about me. I don’t know how they knew. I was so upset I couldn’t go to see William and Kate’s wedding. We had hotel rooms booked and everything. My friend said I should use a wheelchair but she would never have got me through the crowds.”

In the end, Mary watched the ceremony from her niece’s home.

Beatles singer Paul McCartney, 69, will marry fiancee and New York businesswoman Nancy Shevell, 51, this weekend at his farmhouse in Sussex, England.

The couple have been bee engaged since April after McCartney provided Shevell with a $650,000 engagement ring.

A source close to the couple tells Us Weekly:

“It will be a small, intimate wedding,” while adding, “It’s going to be very elegant and classic. They are having a big party in New York to celebrate later on.”

The marriage will be the third for McCartney who’s first wife Linda died of Cancer in 1998, while his second marriage to gold-digger Heather Mills ended with a 2008 divorce that cost him $50 million, a sum Mills later complained meant she would have to fly “coach.”

This time around McCartney is marrying someone with money of their own, Shevell is the businesswoman daughter of cargo magnate Mike Shevell who’s who’s company is worth upwards of $500 million.

Shevell received her divorce from lawyer Bruce Blakeman from the US Supreme Courts of the State of New York on December 9, 2008, that split was said to be amicable.

Hopefully things work out better for the couple than their past marriages, one thing is for certain, this isn’t a money play for either one of them with no prenup reportedly being signed. If it does go badly Nancy will likely take the brunt of public anger, people just don’t like when other people mess with their Beatles.

Well, this is something you don’t see every day.

16-year-old country singer Courtney Alexis Stodden has married 51-year-old actor Doug Hutchison- who you may remember from roles on Lost and in The Green Mile. According to local law, Hutchison- who is 35 years older than his child bride- needed to obtain permission from at least one of Stodden’s parents to marry the girl. The pair wed in Vegas on May 20th, and commented through a rep on the unusual coupling:

“We’re aware that our vast age difference is extremely controversial,” the couple told E! Online. “But we’re very much in love and want to get the message out there that true love can be ageless.”

Hutchison’s website adds:

“Mr. and Mrs. Hutchison live together happily ensconced in their Hollywood Hills home with their lil’ pups Everette and Tuna!”

One gossip site actually tracked down Stodden’s parents, who infuse the story with a whole new level of creepdom. Courtney’s dad- who is actually 4 years younger than her husband, actually said this and I am not making this up:

“Every father can only pray to have such a man behind their daughter… Courtney is one of the most level headed girls out there and I’m not just saying that because she’s my daughter. Doug is the nicest man I’ve ever met in my life,” Alex said of his 51-year-old son-in-law, who tied the knot with his daughter in Vegas on May 20.

Stodden’s mom denies her daughter’s grown up appearance is thanks to plastic surgery:

Krista also said her daughter was a “good Christian girl,” who was a “virgin when she married Doug.”  The proud mom also slammed reports that her daughter has had plastic surgery: “She is a beautiful girl. She has real breasts, real lips, she’s not plastic.”

I can’t really tell if it makes sense her parents feel this way, or it’s totally bizarre, or both. The news has attracted a bit of critical attention, but marriages like this have done well in the past, and maybe the May-December couple will make it. Does this squick you out?

A Chicago woman who realized that her boyfriend would not be proposing to her over the New Year’s holiday as she had hoped came up with a novel solution to try and convince him otherwise- she called the police and told them he was attacking her.

Surprisingly, the incident did not result in a romantic, stroke of midnight proposal and in fact did not endear the woman to police. 40-year-old Ana Perez summoned the cops at 8:30 pm Sunday, claiming the man was “attacking her.” However, when police showed up, she admitted the report was a ruse to frighten the man into popping the question:

“She called 911 to scare him and have the police force him to marry her,’’ according to Grand Central District police Capt. Grand Central District Capt. Ronald Pontecore.

Perez, whose boyfriend was “actually in the process of breaking up with her,” was charged with disorderly conduct. Her poor schmuck of a probably now ex-boyfriend was obviously not charged.

(An employee tweeted about the wedding as it was going down.) The choppy video, heavy with background noise, shows a young couple vowing to love, honor, cherish and recharge each other nightly for all eternity. The officiant, clad in a Steve Jobs-like black turtleneck, quotes Jobs during the ceremony:

So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down…

While you or I might think a wedding like this will look dated in a few years, the happy couple, Josh and Ting Li, allegedly met at an Apple Store, so there’s that. And the location holds a bit more significance to Josh, who confirmed the event to Entertainment Weekly.

“We got to know each other because Ting was looking to buy an iPod…and I managed to strike up a conversation that way.” Romance blossomed for the two iLovebirds. “I used to joke that the Apple Store is my church because I am not religious, and I loved everything Apple,” Josh adds. “Ting then came up with the idea of having the wedding there.” They haven’t decided yet where to have a reception, but I hear Cupertino is lovely this time of year.”

The ring bearer was reportedly a first-generation iPod.

The now-wife of a professional gamer e-mailed the above pics to Kotaku, explaining how she surprised her groom with the amazing Mario cake shown.

The bride, who seems very supportive of her man’s geekiness, describes the cake and other Mario-related wedding plans:

“I had found pics of a very similar cake online, and it inspired me to create my own Mario cake and surprise my groom on our wedding day (November 5th). My groom is a professional video gamer, and his favorite game is Mario cart. We were married in Vegas, so I had the bottom tier a desert theme, and I went with the old school Peach Castle rather than a modern one. I’m brunette, and my groom a blonde, so I had them customize Peach and Mario accordingly. The only hint I gave my groom about the cake was I had a pair of Mario boxers delivered to him to wear during the ceremony the morning of the big day, and then I had our rings brought forth by the ring bearer on a 1-Up key-chain which later snuck itself into my bouquet for the rest of the day. The entire cake was edible, the desert tier was berries and creme, the galaxy was bouncy chocolate with chantilly cream, and the castle (which has been preserved in my freezer for the 1 year anniversary) is peanut butter chocolate. Ah, weddings. Such a fun time that we usually want to remember to all eternity, or at least the divorce papers are served. Photo albums of these memorable events are treasured and shared with friends far and wide – well at least most of the time – but I am willing to bet that those of us who have walked the long lonely aisle have pictures of the hallowed event that we hope never see light of day let alone a photo album.

The cake was created by Mike’s Amazing Cakes in Seattle for a couple by the name of Liz and Austin

Liz and Austin’s steampunked wedding cake. The metallic gears, doors, rivets, and panels were all made of fondant and were entirely edible. This is probably the baddest-ass wedding cake you will ever see. Respect.

Best part: the cake tasted just as decadent as it looked! I had a slice of the lemon layer after photographing it.

Ever devoted, Amy Wolfe, 33, fell for “him” when she was 13.

(How she determined gender remains a mystery to me.) Amy “rides” the ride she intends to marry about 300 times a year, and lets slip that the operators give her special concessions, keeping the attraction in operation a few times after closing so she can have time alone with her man. After years of courtship and over 3,000 goes, Amy wants to make him an honest machine.

Before she announced her unconventional marriage plans, Amy was featured in a documentary titled Objectum Sexuality: When Relationships With Inanimate Objects Become Intimate. Amy contends that she doesn’t suffer from a fetish, but rather, a condition of the same name. (Objectum Sexuality.) And she insists her feeling for the ride are not solely sexual in nature- although she does keep a picture of him taped to her ceiling so she can deal with that part of their relationship without being “indecent” in public.

A video of a bunch of unrestrained and not really very choreographed dancing during the beginning of a church wedding has gotten a bit of attention on the intertubes this week.

A lot of the commenters didn’t like the irreverance. (Dancing? In a church? OMG!) But frankly, the church is the most painfully boring part of the painfully boring institution that is weddings and there’s only booze if you’re Catholic, and even then everyone backwashed in it. Ew. (For the record I am Catholic, so I am totally allowed to say that.)

The Caribbean locale holds special significance for the newlyweds — not only was Roselyn born in San Juan, but the couple got engaged while on a holiday trip to Puerto Rico last year.

Even Roselyn’s Hollywood twin was in attendance–Eva Longoria was spotted at the star-studded ceremony held at San Cristobal. Roselyn’s already got a 4.3 carat ring after their engagement last year, and it doesn’t sound like there were any Elizabeth Hurley types to steal her thunder at the lavish affair.
