Virgin Mary Pregnancy Test Billboard Starts ‘Meaning of Christmas’ Conversation

With all the decorations, food, and presents that are customary to many Christmas celebration, one might get the idea that Christmas is a happy time of year. But a church in New Zealand wants people to think about the harsh realities that surround Christmas, and to start the conversation, they’ve posted a billboard of the Virgin Mary checking a pregnancy test.

The church says that many people don’t experience a happy Christmas and that it is important that people don’t let themselves get carried away by the Christmas spirit. The St. Matthew-in-the-City Church in Aukland, New Zealand, said:

“It’s real. Christmas is real. It’s about a real pregnancy, a real mother and a real child. It’s about real anxiety, courage and hope… Although the make-believe of Christmas is enjoyable – with tinsel, Santa, reindeer, and carols – there are also some realities. Many in our society are suffering: some through the lack of money, some through poor health, some through violence, and some through other hardships.”

The billboard is definitely getting people to talk, but not necessarily about the meaning of Christmas. Several Catholics in New Zealand have called the billboard offensive and inappropriate. But Church Vicar Glynn Cardy and priest Clay Nelson defended the advertisement, saying:

“Regardless of any premonition, that discovery would have been shocking. Mary was unmarried, young, and poor. This pregnancy would shape her future… Anything that provokes discussion about what the meaning of the Christian faith is, I mean that’s our goal, is to provoke people to think about meaning.”

The Huffington Post reports that the St. Mathew-in-the-City Church is asking its followers to caption the billboard. ”HOLY MOTHER of GOD……..oh…that’s right…it’s me…” and ”yay, I hope it’s a girl” are two suggestions that the church has received.

Pam Anderson to Play the Virgin Mary in New Christmas Special

When you think of Pam Anderson, you probably think of “Baywatch,” breast implants, Playboy, PETA, “Home Improvement,” or celebrity sex tapes. One thing that probably doesn’t come to mind is the Virgin Mary. But that could change this Christmas when Pamela steps into the role she was born to play. Yep, the Baywatch beauty will be playing the Virgin Mary in an upcoming Christmas special.

Pam Anderson will step into the holy shoes of the Virgin Mary for a comedy sketch in “A Russell Peters Christmas.”

The show, which will be hosted by comedian Russel Peters, will also star Jon Lovitz, Michael Buble, and Ted Lange, a.k.a. Isaac from “The Love Boat.” ”A Russell Peters Christmas” promises to deliver “an irreverent twist on the Christmas special making it unlike anything viewers have seen before.”

The Indo-Canadian comedian may not be a household name in America but he’s pretty popular up north. Here’s a clip from one of his stand-up specials.

And in case you forgot about Pam Anderson’s acting talents, here’s a little reminder.

According to The Comedy Network website, Russell Peters will be “paying tribute to the holidays with a mix of stand-up, sketch, stop-motion animation, and musical performances.” “A Russell Peters Christmas” will premiere on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Virgin Mary Appears On Door

After a northern winter lull, religious sightings are on the rise again in what appears to be a case of Jesus and the Virgin Mary coming out of hibernation.

Our latest is an appearance by the mother of Jesus is on a wooden door in downtown Durham, North Carolina.

Carolina Martinez told the local TV station that the image appeared on the door of a spare bedroom after a friend spent the night.

“She called for me and told me that she saw the image and I told her no, that she was crazy,” Martinez recalled. But now she does.

Apparently “hundreds” of people (see Catholics) have now visited the house to see the Virgin Mary on her spring vacation tour.

No word yet on an eBay sale, but we’d bet the shipping on the door wouldn’t be cheap.

Virgin Mary spotted in bird poop

Virgin Mary spotting has dropped to new lows with a Texas family claiming that the mother of Jesus has made an appearance in bird poop attached to their pickup truck.

The image of the Virgin Mary appeared after Salvador Pachuca returned home after having an accident four months ago. The truck was taken outside for a wash, and then the Virgin Mary bird poop magically fell from the sky.

“I told my brothers come over here and see what this is and they say this is the Virgin,” says Salvador Pachuca told local media. Wife Cristal said she took pictures and began making calls to invite others to see, what she describes as, a miracle. “We just all feel protected. It’s a blessing to our family and to everybody that comes to see it.”

The family say they will welcome anyone who wants to see the image, and there are no plans yet to sell the bird poop on eBay.

Pope on ‘holy’ warpath against false Virgin Mary sighters

You’ve seen them auctioned off on eBay, we seen the pictures of her showing up in everything from toast tp shadows on the wall and this explosion of people claiming to have seen the Virgin Mary has got the Pope just a tad pissed. It apparently bothered him enough that he plans on publishing a criteria for the faithful to use so they won’t get taken in by charlatans. This criteria will them distinguish between the true and false claims of Virgin Mary sightings, Jesus sightings and the ever famous stigmata reports.

According to a report in the Daily Mail the Pope is concerned about this explosion

The Pope is said to be deeply concerned by the explosion in the number of pseudo-mystics who, claiming a direct line to God, set themselves against the bishops and lure the Catholic faithful out of the Church and into cults.

The handbook comes six years after the Pope – when he was simply Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger – first said that the boom in such phenomena posed a risk to the unity of the Church.

The Church has been traditionally cautious in dealing with ‘private revelations’, in the belief that nothing new can be added to the Catholic faith.

But according to Petrus, an Italian online magazine, the Pope will now explicitly demand the ‘utmost rigour’ in apparitions

Jesus Starts 2009 World Tour on New Zealand Toast

The year isn’t one day old (well on the West Coast), and yet the hardest working man in the wacky appearances business has started his 2009 Tour.

Fittingly, Jesus started his tour in one of the first places on the planet to welcome 2009, New Zealand, with a decent appearance on a piece of toast.

Proving that he’s keen to reach out to people no matter where they come from, Jesus didn’t just pick ordinary toast, but toasted pita bread, a favorite in the Middle East.

Bidding at a the time of writing is up to $31 NZD ($19.70 USD), and according to The Age, the owner has declined an offer to swap the Jesus toast for a sack of potatoes that look like the Virgin Mary.

Jesus sighted in a coffee cup [exclusive]

Jesus’ world tour of interesting places took a turn towards Australia this weekend when he appeared in a coffee cup.

This exclusive photo for The Inquisitr shows Jesus appearing in a cup of poorly tasting cappuccino in the Rocks in Sydney, New South Wales.

The image however was short lived, as the Cappuccino was consumed.

Jesus spotted in a cloud

Jesus sightings have been a little slow lately, but the man upstairs has reappeared up high…in a cloud to be precise.

Jesus in a cloud was captured by a resident of Western Sydney last year, but his story is only now getting attention, in this case by News.com.au.

Surprisingly Jesus in cloud sitings are fairly common, with pages and pages of results on YouTube.

Here’s the video of Jesus up high. You can see what looks like a face, so it’s marginally better than some previous outings.

Jesus makes laundry appearance

The Virgin Mary continues to rock the United States, but appearances seem to be getting nasty, with her latest appearance in a Salinas, California floor drain.

The owner of the restaurant where the drain is located told reporters that he sees the image as a blessing of hope for his business.
