In one of the more AWWWWWWW inspiring moments on YouTube, a video of two small puppies and their cinderella story is going viral.

At a hospital in Corpus Cristi, Texas patients were shocked to see two emaciated puppies walk into the hospital. They walked over to the patient’s lobby and patiently waited for their turn. One of the nurses came up to the puppies realizing that they needed medical care and brought them over to a section of the hospital where they could be seen.

One of the hospitals doctors came out and gave the puppies an examination and determining that they were skinny and hungry proceeded to write them a prescription for bacon sausages and water.

The patients then went to their makeshift room under one of the secretary’s desks to sleep.

The hospital contacted the humane society of Corpus Christi and the doctor helped the news caster covering the story (see video below) load them into the news van where they were driven to the shelter.

At the shelter they were very happy in their new cages with food and water and veterinary care. They will soon be ready for adoption.

How amazing is it that the hospital staff took the time and energy off their busy days to help two sick puppies.

Watch a video of the puppies walking into the hospital for care (careful super super cute)

Whether you’re from New York City or you can’t stand people from the Big Apple a new video inspired by the YouTube hit Shit Girls Say has jumped on the web titled Shit New Yorkers Say and it’s pretty much dead on for every New York City loving resident we’ve ever spoken to.

The 2:42 piece was written by Eliot Glazer and starts Eliot and Ilana Glazer.

In the video Eliot and Ilana walk around New York City spouting off some of the most routine and annoying things people say in the city such as:

“It’s a ‘law’ that taxis must go to Brooklyn” and they get excited when a local news anchor walks by but then exclaim they are proud not to own a TV.

One of my favorite lines:

“You read the Post? Like not ironicall?”

Check out the video for yourself:

I love donuts! Are you from New York City? Are there any overused sayings/cliches they left off this list that you care to share?

You’re so vain, you probably think this sign was about you.

Packer fans were more than happy to watch their team boot the Bears out of the season yesterday, and I imagine that most, from a combination of good food, family memories, gift cards to various retail stores and food chains from the uncle that doesn’t know you very well or the grandparents that have long given up on purchasing anything meaningful for you, with the nice, plump cherry of Packer victory on top, would admit that it was a pretty phenomenal Christmas.

Except one.

The one I’m talking about? The guy who had to explain to his whole family on Christmas the exact details of “whatever happened to that nice Lucy girl you used to date?”

Because “Lucy” dropped a very big hint. She also taught us a lesson we all should know, but many seem to forget in the heat of the moment. Don’t cheat. Cheaters never prosper. They end up on national television and later go viral on the internet in the slow post-holiday news cycle.

Watch below, let us know further down if you think that this Packer fan got his just-desserts.

Now that “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” is history one soldier has decided to come out to his dad and he has done it in a big way, videotaping a phone call to his dad and then broadcasting the results on YouTube.

The unidentified soldier who goes by the YouTube video handle AreYouSurprised made the call while stationed in Germany and in the video he says to his dad:

“Can I tell you something,” and when his dad says ”Yeah,” the soldier responds, “Will you love me serious?” when his father says “Yes,” he responds “Dad, I’m gay.”

His dad’s final answer:

“I still love you, son. Yes, I still love you.”

Oh my goodness a soldier just proclaimed to his dad and the rest of the world that he’s gay and he managed to do it without grabbing another soldiers crotch or while blowing kisses at his superiors. In case you didn’t catch my tone that was sarcasm.

I paraphrased the conversation above but you can hear the entire conversation in the video below:

Good for him, hopefully more soldiers will no longer feel like outcasts because of their sexual orientation, although I have a suspicion that it will still be a long while before gay soldiers are not ostracized by their fellow enlistees.

What do you think about the soldiers very public proclamation.

The law firm criticized for their “copyright trolling” in an attempt to wring money out of internet users for engaging in nefarious activities such as viewing a YouTube video or quoting an news piece on a message board were majorly smacked down by a judge, the Electronic Frontier Foundation gleefully reports.

Righthaven is dedicated to enforcing copyright laws- regardless of who the copyright holder actually is. Awesomely, though, judges apparently don’t look kindly on this kind of suit. The EFF’s press section reports:

In dismissing Righthaven’s claim in its entirety, Chief Judge Hunt’s ruling decisively rejected the Righthaven business model of conveying rights to sue, alone, as a means to enforce copyrights,” said Laurence Pulgram, head of copyright litigation at Fenwick & West in San Francisco. “The ruling speaks for itself. The court rejected Righthaven’s claim that it owned sufficient rights in the copyright, stating that claim was ‘flagrantly false–to the point that the claim is disingenuous if not outright deceitful.’”

Judge Hunt also noted that “Righthaven has made multiple inaccurate and likely dishonest statements to the Court” and rejected Righthaven’s efforts to fix things after the fact with a May 9, 2011, amendment to the original assignment agreement. The judge expressed “doubt that these seemingly cosmetic adjustments change the nature and practical effect” of the invalid assignment.

As part of his ruling today, the judge ordered Righthaven to show why it should not be sanctioned for misrepresentations to the court. The Court permitted Democratic Underground’s counterclaim to continue against Stephens Media — the publisher of the Review Journal — allowing Democratic Underground to show that it did nothing wrong in allowing a user to post a five-sentence excerpt of a 50-sentence article.

The EFF expressed hope this was the end of this sort of infringement on “free and open” expression on the internet. Do you think this ruling will stop Righthaven?

LA Galaxy Star David Beckham is featured in a new viral video in which the soccer star, holding a can of Diet Pepsi kicks three soccer balls into garbage cans.

While the video is probably fake, considering he’s on the beach with the soccer balls and the garbage cans are barely a speck on the camera, it’s still cool to this that maybe, just maybe, it’s real.

If you haven’t seen the video, here’s your first look:

One thing is for certain, Pepsi has a creative viral video on their hands.

What do you think about the newest “corporate” viral video to hit YouTube.

A little over a month ago, we posted about the Las Vegas law firm seeking to squeeze dollars out of bloggers and regular everyday internet users via a creative use of copyright law and re-interpretation of statues to retroactively render viral material on the internet protected intellectual property.

Such a notion should be pretty terrifying if you ever pass on a funny image or video, and more so if you write for or maintain your own blog. (If you pass on chain letters, you pretty much deserve to be sued for something.) But the “copyright trolls” (as Ars Technica so aptly dubbed them) suffered a key loss in court recently that should be mildly encouraging to internet users curious to see how it all pans out.

It’s kind of satisfying, too, that Righthaven seems to have slightly advanced the cause of its many opponents. In a recent ruling regarding fair use, a federal judge actually supported the reproduction of entire articles- a practice most bloggers try to avoid precisely to prevent this sort of legal threat. Federal Judge James Mahan exercised a pretty commendable judicial smackdown:

Judge Mahan told both sides that the purpose of copyright law was to encourage creativity and to disseminate public access to information, so long as that did not unfairly hinder the market for the original story. In this case, Mahan said that the tiny Oregon nonprofit had essentially zero overlap between the readers of its website and the readers of the Review-Journal. In addition, the effect on the “market” for the work is unclear, since Righthaven is solely using the copyright to prosecute a lawsuit, not to defend its news operations (it has none).

The chances of Righthaven taking their ball and going home at this stage of the game are slim, but the two rulings cited in the above links show promising precedent against future actions of a similar nature. What do you think about Righthaven’s lawsuits? Should judges be intolerant of law firms using the court in such a way?

Via Fark comes a story about this terrifying new practice, spearheaded by a law firm in Vegas and aimed at wringing money out of bloggers and even sometimes message board commenters in a legal strategy that- if it catches on- threatens the very foundation of the web, sharing wrong, shocking or funny pictures.

The blogging masses love to find content that goes viral- sure, traffic and resultant dollar signs is a motivation, but far more of the thrill of sharing pics and other things that blow up internet-wide is the web’s biggest driving motivation- being first. But if Righthaven has its way, the internet could become a whole lot less friendly and about open sharing and dispersal of information. That’s because- in a nutshell- their whole business model is based on copyrighting content which has gone or is about to go past that tipping point of web infamy, and then suing the snot out of you, the user, who posts one of their newly copyrighted images or pieces of content on a blog, a forum, or a social aggregation site.

Wired first covered Righthaven in a piece last year aptly titled “Copyright Trolling for Dollars,” describing CEO Steve Gibson’s strategy as favoring shakedown over takedown:

Gibson’s vision is to monetize news content on the backend, by scouring the internet for infringing copies of his client’s articles, then suing and relying on the harsh penalties in the Copyright Act — up to $150,000 for a single infringement — to compel quick settlements. Since Righthaven’s formation in March, the company has filed at least 80 federal lawsuits against website operators and individual bloggers who’ve re-posted articles from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, his first client.

Interesting too are the relatively paltry sums wrested from your average web user for posting newly copyrighted content- one to three large, which as far as lawyer money goes, is chump change. The name of the game for Righthaven is settlements, terrifying Joe Poster into scaring up the funds to avoid getting cleaned out at trial. The law should take a dim view of this- DMCA takedown notices have worked well in the past at protecting copyrighted content without tying up judicial resources.

All things considered, even if this one law firm devotes all its resources to copyrighting content and suing users of Reddit, Fark and its ilk, most web users should be able to continue sharing with impunity without too much fear. But if the practice catches on and other law firms scent blood in the water- a possible outcome, to be sure- such a practice could have terrible implications for the way the web works.

Do you think this legal strategy will have lasting implications for the way viral information travels on the internet? Is this what copyright laws really exist to protect?

Iron Man 2 parodies could have taken on a lot of different angles and while I would never have thought to make an Iron Baby video it’s so damn cute you can’t help but be at least a little impressed with the outcome.

The web short, created by Canadian filmmaker Patrick Boivin took in over 10,000 views during it’s first day and is currently sitting at nearly 60,000 views.

It’s not the best parody I’ve seen, but given that Boivin used his own baby daughter to make the film, it adds a whole new cute factor.

Anyways, check out the video for yourself:

Users have been told to upload their most “extreme, crazy videos” to YouTube. Naturally, a bunch of “acrobats” submitted a video of a guy catching a computer with his ass.

Comments of “world class asslete” abound (I would have said ass-crobat, but whatever), and many commenters on YouTube are calling the video a fake or accusing the dude of propelling the laptop out of his ass somehow which seems… no less probable. Here is one commenter’s debunking with spelling errors preserved:

I’ts just some promotional campaign for some product, just like “man catches glasses with face”. It’s play backwards. Obvious is fake. LOOK AT THE HAIR. It moves before the guy moves. Search on youtube for “Catches Glasses Explanation” and you’ll know how this video is made.

I have to say, neither explanation makes much sense to me. So here’s a video of the laptop ass-catching in motion, and you can judge for yourself whether this guy is throwing or catching a laptop with his ass.

Some dude was none too happy when his ride was towed from the pub.

So the following morning, he paid the fee to bail his car out- $88, in pennies. The desk clerk tries her best to refuse, but homeboy won’t back down and calls in the law. Long story short, the tow company ends up accepting the pennies and the kid gets to drive his car home.

Yes, the gaggle of college dudes is kind of douchey, and yes, harassing someone who is just trying to do their job is a bit of a dick move, but are you really going to come down on the side of people who tow cars for profit here?
