Youtube, the World’s largest online video site, has reached yet another milestone. Ever since its release in 2005, the website has exploded in popularity and quickly became the one place where people tend to log on, every single day.

Google announced new stats today for the online video service and, well, they’re pretty impressive. Video views now top four Billion every single day Worldwide. Back in May of 2010, video views were at two Billion every single day.

If you figure out the math, they’ve gained about a Billion video views per day, every single year since then. Not only are people watching a lot of video, but a lot of people are uploading videos as well.

They now get over 60 minutes of uploads every single second. That comes out to 5,184,000 minutes or 86,400 hours of content uploaded every single day. To watch just all the videos that were uploaded on one day, it would take you 3,600 days or nearly 10 years, not counting any breaks.

“YouTube’s push now is to enable its Channels, dedicated bundles of videos all designed by YouTube’s content partners, a focus of YouTube’s December redesign. Although YouTube seems interested in signing up premium talent, the site has had the most luck taking smaller content creators and giving them the worldwide audience even networks can’t deliver. Many of the top channels within YouTube rank, in terms of viewership, with the top cable channels, Kyncl said at CES. According to one report, however, social giant Facebook has expressed an interest in luring one of Google’s top channels, Vevo, over to Facebook.”

I have 56,541 photos in my Flickr account. I have more in Smugmug, Facebook and 500px. I also have videos in Vimeo. I do not see myself slowing down from taking photos and videos, especially now technology is making it cheaper to do so.

Flash memory storage solutions provider SanDisk Corporation has introduced the SanDisk Memory Vault, the first product in a new category of devices that are designed for long-term data preservation. They are not just talking about preserving your photos and videos for a few years. Talk about 100 years!

The SanDisk Memory Vault is a photo album for the digital age that allows consumers to preserve images in one reliable location. The device connects to a computer’s USB port for easy drag-and-drop functionality.
Tim Sutton, senior product marketing manager at SanDisk, said:

“SanDisk already offers great image-capture products, and we’ve built upon that expertise to create a new category of image-preservation products. The Memory Vault allows parents to preserve photos of their daughter’s first steps alongside videos from her wedding and then pass those images down for generations to come.”

In fact, a survey conducted by Harris Interactive revealed that 79 percent of US adults with digital photos plan on passing them down to future generations. They would not even consider destroying family photos for a million dollars. Okay, I would.

Okay, about the 100 years preservation, SanDisk said that the Memory Vault utilizes SanDisk’s Chronolock technology, which incorporates the key elements of advanced solid-state storage to create a proprietary memory management solution. SanDisk conducted accelerated temperature cycling tests that simulated the effects of data retention over long periods of time. This allows the device to provide consumers with peace of mind that their precious photos and videos will be preserved for up to 100 years.

The Memory Vault can set you back by $89.99 for 16 gigabytes but considering that it can last you a 100 years, then it becomes a no-brainer.

I’ve already come to terms with the fact I’ll never be able to build anything ‘cool’ in Minecraft. I’ve built a few buildings, sure, but I apparently lack the creative vision to construct anything more complex than a square or rectangular-shaped building. This gives me a little more appreciation for those who are really good at it – especially the people who built this amazing multi-level replica of New York City’s Penn Station.

In the following video, we get to see time-lapse footage of the construction of the replica from start to finish. According to the video, construction took three days to complete, with many players from their Minecraft server participating.

A flood of New Yorkers rode the subways sans pants yesterday for New York City’s ninth-annual No-Pants Day on MTA trains.

Improv Everywhere (slogan: “we cause scenes”), known for their culture jamming stunts such as descending en masse dressed in blue shirts and khakis upon Best Buy or staging impromptu musicals in grocery stores, were responsible for the city-wide prank occurring annually on an icy Sunday in January. Crowds convened at stations across the boroughs, with some brave souls coming in on the LIRR to join the fun. The shenanigans commenced at Union Square station, and participants were greeted by a “protester”:

The pant-less pranksters ended up in Union Square, where self-proclaimed pants fanatic Melina Davis, 21, of Harlem  welcomed them with posters that read “God Wears Pants!”

“I love pants and I love God,” she shouted at the semi-naked crowds.

Davis, who was actually in on the joke and just mocking fanatics, continued: “This is not a good look. People look at your cellulite. Put some pants on!”

But the No-Pants ride isn’t always no-hassle according to Improv Everywhere’s website- participants have had to contend with less than amused NYPD officers despite not breaking laws and the stunt disrupted MTA service in 2005:

The fifth annual No Pants ride was abruptly halted by a cop. All passengers, including those not participating, were forced to exit the train as it was taken out of service. 8 people were handcuffed in their underwear and taken into custody. A month later a judge dismissed all of the charges. It is not illegal to wear your underwear in public in New York City.

This year’s ride seems to have gone off without a hitch and while video hasn’t been posted yet, you can get an idea of how it went down in the footage below of last year’s No-Pants Day on the subway:

An Australian mother got the shock of her life as her child’s stroller rolled off a platform onto a train track and into the path of an oncoming train.

CCTV caught the dramatic scene as it unfolded. The mother is seen chasing the runaway pram, which is out of her reach. The stroller tumbles open kid end first onto the track and the train appears to drive over it as the mother flails silently.

Thankfully, the child survived, reportedly with just a bump to the head. Nevertheless, it’s an uncomfortable video to watch.
