Video: Dane Cook’s “Isolated Incident” peanut butter smack

Dane Cook is one of the most polarizing comedians on the internet.

Cook has a huge, rabid fanbase, and many people were up late last night watching a small show Cook did (30 attendees) first aired in May, entitled Isolated Incident. One of the most searched terms through the night was peanut butter smack, or alternately, peanut butter smack… how do you like me now, biznitch? Both terms refer to Cook’s story about surfing youporn, and a video he found disturbing and funny.

Personally, I don’t find Cook nearly as talented at Louis CK or Lewis Black, but he certainly appeals to a douchier younger crowd. You can watch the seven minute peanut butter smack clip below, but it would be worrying at this point if you’ve never been exposed to any Dane Cook- he’s everywhere. (NSFW language, humor and crude sexual references abound.)

If you are interested in new media of any kind albeit Twitter or blogging which has really become the standard now of news, opinion, and even gossip publishing then do yourself a favor and take the five or ten minutes to watch The New Dial Tone.

On the surface it is an excellently produced snapshot by Michael Sean Wright and Marc Ostrick of the recent Blog World Expo conference that was held in Las Vegas. As Michael described it in the video it is the Burning Man event for bloggers. Using a Kodak Zi8 and a Flip Ultra HD cameras Michael and Marc stretch the abilities of the medium to produce a high quality look at what is making social media tick.

An Australian mother got the shock of her life as her child’s stroller rolled off a platform onto a train track and into the path of an oncoming train.

CCTV caught the dramatic scene as it unfolded. The mother is seen chasing the runaway pram, which is out of her reach. The stroller tumbles open kid end first onto the track and the train appears to drive over it as the mother flails silently.

Thankfully, the child survived, reportedly with just a bump to the head. Nevertheless, it’s an uncomfortable video to watch.

That doggie in the window is really an interactive projection

Sniff is a really cool interactive projection on a storefront window of an animated dog who follows people walking by on the street. It is able to discern a person’s behavior as friendly or aggressive and then tries to engage them in play as well as being able to form a relationship based on the history of interaction.

The dog is created using the Unity3d Game Engine which renders it in real time as well as dynamically change its behavior based on the video tracking data. An infrared sensitive camera is used to monitor the sidewalk that is illuminated with infrared lights.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker bans Conan O’Brien from airport

From the files of “is that a threat or a promise” comes Newark Mayor Cory Booker’s latest foray into the limelight.

As a former resident of Newark, it’s most certainly a slow-moving target, and Conan O’Brien made a crack about a new healthcare initiative in Jersey’s PATHiest city, saying:

“The Mayor of Newark, New Jersey wants to set up a city-wide program to improve residents’ health. The healthcare program would consist of a bus ticket out of Newark.”

Booker calls Newark “one of the fastest growing cities” in the East and briefly asks residents about their opinions on Conan and his remarks. Then, “according to the powers invested in (him) by the people of the city of Newark,” Booker whips out his banhammer and officially puts O’Brien on Newark Airport’s no-fly list. It’s a clever move for Booker, and a good way to use O’Brien’s joke to bring some humor and PR to the underrated city that’s only eleven minutes by train from Greenwich Village.

Video: Gators’ Tim Tebow injured, has concussion

Florida Gators QB Tim Tebow started in a game against Kentucky Saturday night.

In the third quarter, Tebow was knocked down by Kentucky Wildcats defensive end Taylor Windham, hitting his head on a teammate’s knee on the way down. Tebow, who had been receiving pre-game fluids via IV due to a respiratory illness, lay motionless for a few minutes before being carted off the field and vomiting on the sidelines. He was hospitalized overnight due to a concussion.

Glenn Beck and the frog in boiling water stunt

Glenn Beck, you have to start rehearsing.

Remember the Oligarchy fail from a few weeks ago? Beck seems to be amping up his campaign to win the title of “craziest pundit who doesn’t rehearse” with a bizarre live stunt wherein he shows everyone what happens when you pretend to throw a frog into boiling water. Beck shouts a bit about how President Obama is creating shocking huge policy changes that will cause Americans to hop out of the metaphorical boiling water, based on the belief that a frog will hop out of boiling water when thrown in, but not object and just be happily boiled if cold water is heated after the frog is added.

Beck says:

Barack Obama has galvanized the country, because of the sheer size of the bills he’s proposed, and the number of the bills, the urgency that he’s placing on the bills. He’s forced us to think and get involved! We have, not like John McCain, been boiled slowly- we have been tossed quickly into boiling water, and don’t forget what happens, what happens when you throw them in! When you throw them in, frogs into boiling water!

Then he dramatically throws… nothing. And then, not surprisingly, nothing happens. Sheepishly, Beck walks closer the the camera and says:

Okay … forget the frog. I swear I thought they jumped right out. But they don’t. Forget about the Republicans, because most of them are fake. Forget about the Democrats, because most of them are fake. And forget about the frog, because it was fake!

The most viewed version of the stunt on YouTube edits out the last line about the frog being fake. But it appears that this was a stunt in which no frogs were harmed. Collective intellect of the American public? Thanks to folks like Glenn Beck, not so lucky.

Those of us in the New York Metro area who were too lazy to change the channel after Glee last night got a bit of a rude surprise when one of our more established local anchors dropped the f-bomb on the 10pm broadcast.

Unlike Sue Simmons’s famous outburst out of frustration, this was just bizarre. Ernie tells a co-anchor randomly to “keep f*cking that chicken.” I’m sorry, what? C’mon, we’re New Yorkers, we have to know the rest of that story. Me, I’m thinking ill-fated trip to Down the Hatch for $2 Jagermeisters after Tuesday’s broadcast. Was anyone paying attention? WTF?

This video came to us via e-mail, and seems pretty clearly to be a tepid attempt at viral marketing. Jim Breuer is doing his hyperactive Long Island dude schtick while filming a Pizza Hut ad, then “loses his temper” and pushes someone into a pool. DivX gets boost from Hollywood and Film Fresh

For folks that have been around the web for some some time will recognize the DivX brand name. It is a video format that lets you maintain high video quality but with a much smaller file size and has been popular on the web for a long time. That popularity though has only in the last few years reached beyond the web and been adopted by hardware manufactures.

Where once DVD players and other devices ignored the format they are now all climbing on the bandwagon. It isn’t only the hardware manufacturers that are getting in line with the format but Hollywood studios are also giving it a serious look. As well media player software developers are including support for DivX which makes playing the movies back a lot easier. While DivX, the company behind the format, had already signed agreements with the major Hollywood movie companies it is the deals like the one that Film Fresh has cut that might see a broader availability of new movies being made available using the DivX format.

In an announcement today Rick Bolton of Film Fresh says the company has signed agreements with four Hollywood studios to provide movies utilizing the DivX video format. Film Fresh which previously was known more for its indie and foreign film releases will as of today have 600 Hollywood titles available for download.

There’s also a much greater emphasis on downloads than on packaged products — the amount of downloadable titles is rising from about 20% of the inventory to 50% or 60%, Bolton said, mainly because almost all of the new Hollywood offerings are available digitally. In fact, he said, a number of the older Hollywood movies aren’t available on disc — either they haven’t been released on DVD or they’re out of print. These include "Play It Again, Sam" and "The Parallax View."

One other factor favoring downloads, at least from Film Fresh’s point of view: There’s no inventory risk for the studio or the retailer. That liberates companies such as Film Fresh to offer as many titles as possible without having to buy copies in advance or guess how many will sell. The only caveat today is that Hollywood still enforces its release windows, meaning that a new release will get yanked out of an online retailer’s inventory when it’s time for the movie to appear on HBO or Showtime. Bolton said he has far more flexibility over pricing downloadable films than DVDs, so he plans to experiment with discounted movie bundles and dynamic pricing that responds to demand. "No one’s really begun to explore this yet," he added.

Video: Italian tourist captures deadly Hudson plane crash

An Italian tourist caught the sad and scary moment west of 14th street over the Hudson last weekend when two small aircraft collided, killing all nine people on board.

There were no survivors. Recovery crews retrieved the last two bodies this week.
