There’s happy news from Chile today, where doctors have succeeded in separating conjoined twin girls in an epic 20-hour surgery. The 10-month-old twins, Maria Jose and Maria Paz, are now recovering in an ICU, with the next couple of days in their short lives crucial – doctors say an infection could create complications.

Parents Jessica Navarrete and Roberto Paredes kept a vigil at Luis Calvo Mackenna Hospital in Santiago, during what was the seventh and most complex operation yet for the twins. The pair were separated at the thorax, stomach and pelvis.

Chief surgeon Francisco Ossandon described the moment of successful separation as, “the girls [finishing] the process of being born,” and added, “before, they had two souls and one body.”

The surgery itself proved tough and was laden with difficulties for the team of doctors, yet such obstacles were overcome, and the parents were shown on Chilean TV gazing down at the sleeping girls from beside their separate cribs. TV stations in Chile reportedly broke into regular programming to broadcast updates from the doctors, both during and after the surgery.

The twins were a particularly challenging case, as they shared many of the same internal organs and even urinary system. A team of 100 participated in the surgery, including 25 surgeons. As it happens, the Luis Calvo Mackenna Hospital has a sound track record with conjoined twins – staff have successfully separated three sets before.

Good luck to the girls, and well done to the docs. Even now it amazes me what medical science can achieve.

Identical twins Jessica and Jennifer Patterson, 21, delivered their babies on the same day at the Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital, the Herald-Times reports.

Jessica went to the hospital first but it was Jennifer who went into labor. Jennifer gave birth first to a girl and eight-and-half hours later, Jessica gave birth to a boy. The babies were named Adalynn Rose Patterson and Mason Douglas Patterson.

Jessica and Jennifer, both single parents, have been sharing an apartment for the last three years. Despite the addition of two babies, they said that they intend to continue living with each other.

Jessica said that it’s going to be a crazy house and they are hoping that both babies will grow up really close to each other.

The hospital spokeswoman Amanda Roach cannot recall the last time that identical twins gave birth on the same day at the hospital.

Do you know of any twins who gave birth on the same day at the same hospital? Or say, on the same day, at the same time and at the same hospital?

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon went on 20/20 with Barbara Walters last night to show their new baby twins to the world.

Cannon said while holding his baby girl:

“My family gives me everything. Unconditional love means…the world to me. I mean, it’s completion.”

The twins, who Mariah and Nick lovingly refer to as “Dem Babies,” were born six months ago. Access Hollywood reports that last night was the first time that Mariah and Nick brought “dem babies” on TV, as the power couple told Barbara how Maria had a few false alarms and that the carrying twins was rough on her body.

Mariah said:

“I don’t think I understood the enormity and the magnitude of what it really does to your body. Carrying two babies. Unless somebody’s been through it, it’s difficult to understand what I went through, because my pregnancy was very unique in terms of what happened to me.”

But the most interesting part of the interview was when Mariah revealed that the twins were born to a live version of “Fantasy.”

Mariah said:

“They came into the world to a live version (of Fantasy.).. The only reason I wanted it to be the live version is because I wanted them to hear the applause upon entering the world.”

Did you hear applause when you were born?

Sex researchers and “sexologists” are dismissing a recent study that has been widely distributed calling the existence of the female pleasure center known as a “G-spot” into question.

The G-spot, named for German gynecologist Ernst Gräfenberg, has been a controversial anatomical destination for the five decades since it has been discovered. The study above focused on twins (Giggity!) and involved more than 1800 British women ranging in age from 22 to 83, aiming to link a genetic factor to the presence or absence of the elusive sexual powerhouse. Researchers hoped that twins would provide similar answers to questioning about the G-spot, but the study failed to establish such similarities:

“Variation in G-spot frequency is almost entirely a result of individual experiences and random measurement error with no detectable genetic influence,” the study concluded.

Sexologist Beverly Whipple was one of the first sexperts to debunk the study, pointing out a flawed methodology in reaching the findings and citing lack of consideration for position and partners as detrimental to G-spot research:

Whipple was critical of British researchers who did not consider digital stimulation — the easiest way to achieve G-spot orgasm — only vaginal intercourse and clitoral stimulation.

For that reason, scientists did not include lesbian women in their study.

Nor were subjects asked about sexual positions: woman on top and rear entry bring more stimulus to the anterior wall of the vagina than the so-called missionary position.

“They didn’t ask what type of intercourse and would have different results,” said Whipple, now a professor emerita at New Jersey’s Rutgers University.

Study researcher Andrea Burri also admitted findings may need to be “refined,” and that failure to account for details such as “environmental factors” may have influenced the study, indicating that results need to be replicated. Burri, however, adds that the results of the study could take pressure off women who feel “inadequate” if they cannot locate their G-spot.

In something straight out of a horror sci-fi flick Gavin Hyatt gave birth to his twin brother through his belly button this past month. Granted it was only the 4cm fetus that Gavin had absorb while in his mother’s womb after his twin had died. Once there it remained inert until a recent change in Gavin’s weight which doctors say may have started the process.

There are just a handful of cases worldwide — with the majority reported in Asia.

Former firefighter Gavin, of Witney, Oxfordshire, said: “Four hospital doctors had previously examined me and were all puzzled by the lump.

“Some thought it was a cyst, others an in-grown hair.

“Then one said it could be my undeveloped identical twin that I absorbed at a very early stage. I feel absolutely fine now but it has not sunk in yet that I could have had a twin brother. I have him in a jar at home and I call him little Gav. I haven’t told many people. I feel like a bit of a freak.”

Source: The Sun Online

Freak or not this is kind of cool but I will admit that keeping the Alien wannabe in a jar by the bed might be carrying things a little too far.
