Tom Hanks said goodbye today to a loyal member of his family; his dog Monty.

Hanks posted a picture of his dog on his WhoSay account today, and wrote:

“Monty. Deep brown eyes, noble demeanor, finest dog ever. A sad day. Goodbye Big Boy. Hanx”

Contact Music reports that a few years ago Hanks was forced to buy a new house because Monty had been sprayed by a skunk. Hanks said:

“They say the only way to get rid of skunk smell is tomato juice. This is a lie. We have gone through vats and vats of tomato juice…. I’ve got to burn the clothes. We’ve gotta move out because it smells so bad. We’ve got to move out of our house because our dogs got skunked!”

I couldn’t find a video of Tom Hanks and Monty, but Hanks’ career is evidence enough that he loved dogs. Woody in Toy Story was very close with Slinky Dog, and who can forget Turner and Hooch. 

As Tom Hanks mourns the loss of his dog, he’s also getting ready for the premier of his new movie. “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” opened in theaters today. Here’s the trailer.

Tom Hanks’ long-awaited and oft-delayed sci-fi animated series Electric City will debut on Yahoo in four minute segments.

When all is said and done approximately twenty episodes of the show will debut online and each will premiere in the spring.

According to the Associate Press the show deals with an apparently peaceful city in a post-apocalyptic world that is dealing with relevant social issues that affect us today.

According to Yahoo’s head of original programming:

“On the surface, the Electric City is utopia and under the surface, Electric City is secrets and heavy-handed state control,” and  ”This is perfect for a lean-forward audience who likes to utilize the medium of the Internet.”

The Tom Hanks produced sci-fi series is the first scripted original programming to arrive at Yahoo. In the past the company has worked to secure mostly reality series and news summaries however they recently built a New York based studio in the hopes of extending their offered content.

Along with working on the project for several years Hanks will provide the voice for one of the characters.

Yahoo will make the new series available both online and through tablet based devices.

It probably shouldn’t come as a surprise that Toy Story 3, a animated film which took in over a billion dollars in worldwide receipts, would be seeing a sequel in development.

Such is the case here as Toy Story 4 is already being worked on by Pixar, according to the franchise’s main star, Tom Hanks.

While promoting his current romantic-comedy Larry Crowne, Hanks was asked by BBC News whether there will be another Toy Story film, to which he answered:

“I think there will be yeah. Yeah, yeah, think they’re working on it now. There you go.”

Although fans of the franchise will be delighted by the news, many critics considered the third film to be solid end to the much-loved Pixar franchise centering on Woody (Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen) and their toy comrades.

The studio did recently announce plans to release a ‘mystery movie’ on November 27th 2013 and since doing so fans have been speculating as to whether it would be a sequel (like The Incredibles 2) or an entirely new story.

Tom Hanks stopped by Univision’s morning show “Despierta America” to promote his new movie, Larry Crowne, yesterday morning. Rather than leaving it at that, Tom Hanks decided to prove to viewers that not only can he do the weather, he can do it while dancing.

Yesterday, in video on YouTube, the “Big” star gave his official endorsement that satirical newspaper, The Onion, should take home the Pulitzer Prize, the Crème de la Crème of Journalism Awards.

In his video, a “serious-looking” Hanks expressed his “malice” towards the “mysterious cabal of power brokers and so-called taste makers who gather annually in what must be some all-night drunken bacchanalia slash pinata-party the result is which is the awarding of the prized Pulitzer.”

Mr. Hanks went on to say that if the greatest [fake] news source didn’t receive this year’s prize he would personally search down each and every member responsible for the “injustice.”

Tom Hanks‘ endorsement was just one of many, as numerous other notable individuals have also spoken on behalf of Americans for Fairness in Awarding Journalism Prizes, an organization that has apparently made it its mission to get “The Onion” a Pulitzer.

Tom Hanks’ production company, Playtone Productions, is reportedly working on three television and movie projects.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Hanks’ production company is working on pitching a screenplay for “Major Matt Mason”, a screenplay written by Hanks himself. The studio is currently shooting for getting Robert Zemeckis on board as the director of the 3D live-action film.

The second project announced in Hollywood Reporter’s exclusive reveal is American Gods, an upcoming TV series airing on HBO spamming six seasons and “ten to twelve” hour-long episodes. The series is rich in religious folklore and grand in scope, dealing with gods in Nordic and Greek mythology all the way up to the Christian God. The series is expected to premier in 2013.

And last on the trio of reveals is a screen version of the Broadway adaptation of Green Day’s American Idiot album. Michael Mayer is said to be directing the movie, with Billie Joe Armstrong reprising his Broadway role as St. Jimmy.

Colin Hanks, son of Tom, has welcomed his first child, a baby girl named Olivia Jane.

33-year-old Colin and wife of nine months Samantha Bryant have not released very much information about the baby, the elder Hanks’ first grandchild. Colin is Hanks’ son with first wife Samantha Lewes, who died of bone cancer in 2002. Olivia Jane Hanks was born on February 1st in Los Angeles, and while the family did not disclose at which hospital Olivia Jane was born nor the baby’s vital statistics, a rep says that the three are all resting at home and are “happy and healthy.”

The younger Hanks has appeared on Mad Men, Roswell, and most recently, the Fox crime drama The Good Guys, which was cancelled in December.

The first trailer for HBO’s The Pacific, the follow up by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks to Band of Brothers has been released.

The Pacific focuses on the United States Marine Corps’s actions in the Pacific Theater of Operations during WWII, and cost at staggering $200 million to produce. Shot in Queensland and Victoria, the series is due out in March 2010.

First impressions: epic. The CGI is believable, the color and tone rich, and I can just see this becoming a must watch. Here’s The Pacific trailer:

“The Lost Symbol” will again feature Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon, but that’s pretty much all we know about the book so far.  Some hardcore Langdon-fans are certain that the plot will freemasons in Washington D.C., but the early release date of the book could be undermining that. Many fans expected “The Lost Symbol” (previously known as “The Solomon Key”) to be released on September 18, which has always been an important date in Masonic history. It was on September 18, 1793 President Washington led a Masonic parade down Pennsylvania Avenue to lay the cornerstone of U.S. Capitol.

However if you check out Robert Langdon’s website the clues points the plot of “The Lost Symbol” in another direction.

Mr. Langdon is in the process of completing his newest manuscript Symbols of the Lost Sacred Feminine—an exploration of modern religious iconography and its origins in the ancient goddess cults.

Last month, while in Florence, Professor Langdon uncovered an ancient parchment that historians now believe may be the work of Leonardo da Vinci. The encoded parchment—bearing the name La Profezia (The Prophecy)—raised eyebrows when scholars discovered it was signed “LSPDV.” (Leonardo’s full name was Leonardo Ser Pieri Da Vincio).

What we do know is that the plot will take place over 12 hours and that we can expect codes, history and intrigue. Dan Brown spent five years researching for this book.

“The Lost Symbol” has already been picked up by Columbia Pictures as a follow-up to this spring’s release of “Angels and Demons” featuring Tom Hanks (and several Danish actors). “Angels and Demons” is directed by Ron Howard, but I think we can expect both Howard and Hanks to return in “The Lost Symbol.”

“The Lost Symbol” will have a first printing of 5 million copies. “The Da Vinci Code” with 81 million copies in print worldwide owned the bestseller lists for more than a year.

The Great Buck Howard is a comedy-drama directed by Sean McGinly, staring Tom Hanks’ oldest son Colin Hanks and John Malkovich.

The story follows Troy Gable, who after dropping out of law-school takes a job as a road manager for a mentalist at the tail end of his career; in hopes of getting into the entertainment industry. Tom Hanks play father to his real-life son’s character.
