Tina Fey trotted out her spot on Sarah Palin impression on last night’s SNL with a skit skewering Palin’s TV ambitions.

In addition to Palin’s new career directions (and the terrifying prospect of a presidential run), Fey takes aim at Palin’s hunting habits, her husband Todd in general and tea partiers’ rampant spelling errors.

Although not as outrageously funny as past Fey-as-Palin skits, last evening’s SNL Thursday Special intro is definitely worth a watch.

The highlights? The beginning is especially awesome: according to President George W. Bush, impersonated by Will Ferrell, it is on between “between two very qualified candidates: the hot lady and the Tiger Woods guy.” Poor Dubya: he’s been trying to do his part from the Oval Office (otherwise know as the “Bummer-Free Zone”) and endorse McCain in a super-public statement, but things keep getting mysteriously delayed. It’s a good thing that John McCain (Darrell Hammond) was found in the Adirondacks, or he wouldn’t have been able to come and pose for an extended photo op.

And of course, Tina Fey hit it out of the park with a fetching leg flash and a clever reference to Governor Sarah Palin’s impressive campaign wardrobe. (Who knew that pencil skirts and nehru collar jackets could run up such a hefty bill?) Even though the New York Times was getting skeptical about SNL taking this and running with it, I certainly wasn’t disappointed.

Bill Zwecker at the Chicago Sun-Times claimed that Gov. Sarah Palin is likely to make an appearance on Saturday Night Live alongside Tina Fey. Thankfully, this hasn’t been confirmed, and the McCain camp is mulling over how they should respond to Fey’s genius impressions:

“As the comedian’s impressions of the GOP vice presidential candidate draw laughs from Republicans and Democrats alike, a top honcho from the John McCain campaign tells me there’s a debate going on about how to respond.”

Oooh, but here’s the catch: Sarah Palin herself thinks that it’s a good idea to go on SNL. The media coverage would be priceless and conservatives would eat it up, but wouldn’t that be like stepping into a hotbed of the media elite?

Unfortunately, Tina Fey is a better Sarah Palin than Sarah Palin. Does Fey do such a good job that she’s managed to convince Palin that she’s funny? Say it ain’t so. . . please.

I had been waiting anxiously for Tina Fey’s interpretation of Gov. Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live. Yay! It was so worth it. SNL nailed it again: willy-nilly question answering, build-em-up-tear-em-down commentary, and, of course, the shout-out. They even threw in a talent portion for good measure.

Tina Fey might want to stop playing Sarah Palin on November 5th, but she’s not going away quite yet. In fact, Saturday Night Live will be heading to primetime for an additional three weeks of live, 30-minute shows on Thursdays.

If you want to enjoy the full SNL clip experience, I suggest you head over to watch the clip and read all comments: the crazy, the sensible, and the in-between. It’s a good palate cleanser after all the mavrick-y goodness.

Whether you find it funny or not-so-much, one thing’s certain: SNL won’t be running out of fodder. Not only will Palin debate Joe Biden on Thursday, but CBS will run coverage of “Vice Presidential Questions.” Katie Couric interviewed both Sarah Palin and Joe Biden as a part of the series, but Palin’s responses were branded as possibly “embarrassing” by Howard Kurtz. I’m on the edge of my seat!
