It’s not a huge revelation that Britain’s Sun newspaper gently massages facts. Indeed, for most of its mucky history, this sorry waste of ink and paper has had a tenuous relationship with journalistic accuracy. The latest example of this can be seen in errant claims over Nintendo’s new 3DS handheld.

Earlier today, the Sun revealed how the 3DS was seeing “record return levels” across Britain “after thousands suffered headaches and dizziness.” Intrigued, Eurogamer approached retailers to ask for their experiences. Unsurprisingly, it was found to be more badly researched nonsense from the paper.

GAME and HMV were the two retailers mentioned in the newspaper’s story. The former revealed that, “We’ve had less than five people complain that they feel sick and want to return [the 3DS].” HMV noted, “Contrary to a report in today’s media, we would like to make clear that we are not aware of any manufacturing fault with the 3DS console – which we have seen huge demand for, and that we have not issued any refunds for it and nor are we doing.”

In the US, GameStop has confirmed the usual level of returns for console launches, while back in the UK electronics retailer Currys says there’s been no increase in returns.

So don’t worry, your 3DS won’t melt your eyes, cause tumours, or microwave your brain. It’s simply another scare story from a renowned lie rag. And, in the rare instance the 3DS is causing you issues, Nintendo advises either taking a break, or turning down the 3D depth slider on the side of the handheld. It really is that easy.

We want to believe, we really do, but a new photo published by the UK Tabloid The Sun and claimed to be “one of the most important ever pieces of evidence of alien life” shows a cream filled chocolate cookie flying over Dudley in the United Kingdom.

The photo is said to have been taken by a 57-year-old nanny on a day out last April, and handed over to a police detective who collects UFO sightings.
