Christina Aguilera stopped by Jimmy Fallon’s late night TV show, performing a remix of her song “Your Body” with The Roots. Nothing out of the ordinary here, except that standard office supplies stood in for actual musical instruments.

In what will probably be called the most extreme unplugged performance ever recorded, Aguilera and The Roots were joined by host Fallon for a performance of the singer’s new single, which will debut on her fifth studio album.

If you can buy it at Office Max, chances are, Aguilera, Fallon, and The Roots used it in their performance of “Your Body.” They use pencils, rulers, paper, keyboards, scissors, and more. I think the drummer is clicking away on half-full coffee pots. Aguilera herself used the percussive stapler to enhance her already-stunning vocals, which, you guessed it, seem oddly out of place during this hilarious performance.

And, of course, host Fallon was there to bump and grind, or something.

Thus far, “Your Body” hasn’t made much of an impression on the radio charts and hasn’t reached the smash-hit status that Aguilera is accustomed to by now. Still, it’s a pretty good song, and seeing the singer “out of character” and having a little fun certainly won’t hurt her chances of selling the album in the long run.

Aguilera’s fifth studio album, Lotus, will debut in just under two weeks, and the singer has been hard at work promoting it with television appearances on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and the NBC telethon Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together.

D’Angelo hasn’t performed in the United States for over a decade. But last night at Bonnaroo the famous R&B singer hopped up on stage to join Questlove during a “Superjam” session.

MTV reports that D’Angelo has done a few shows in Europe this year but this is the first time he’s played in America in the last 12 years. D’Angelo joined Questlove for about an hour on stage, singing songs like Jimi Hendrix’s ”Have You Ever Been (to Electric Ladyland),” the Beatles’ “She Came in Through the Bathroom Window,” and Led Zeppelin’s “What is and What Should Never Be.”

Questlove said while introducing the reclusive singer:

“I’ve been waiting 12 years to say this — ladies and gentlemen, D’Angelo!”

The Consequence of Sound reports that this won’t be D’Angelo’s only US performance this summer. The singer, who is currently working on his long-awaited third studio album, will playing in New Orleans this July at Essence Festival, and in Philadelphia in September for Jay-Z’s Made In America Festival.

Questlove told the SF Gate that D’Angelo’s new album is finished but the singer is reluctant to send it out to the public. The Roots drummer said he wanted to get D’Angelo back on stage to show him that he still has fans that are anxiously awaiting his new album.

Questlove said:

“I wanted him to see that… That’s a green light. Me doing it wasn’t, like, running out of jam partners. Me doing it was basically showing him, `Look, you are so missed you don’t even realize how much you are missed,’ hoping that this will be the adrenaline boost that will finally get him to turn his record into the label. It’s done, it’s brilliant. I played on it. I know it’s brilliant. Now it’s just time to let his kids go and show it to the world. That’s what I’m here for.”

After Michele Bachmann walked out onto the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon stage to the Fishbone track “Lyin’ Ass Bitch” as performed by house band The Roots NBC has announced that they will now screen and sensor all musical tracks performed by the band.

In an interview regarding the issue Roots drummer ?uestlove revealed:

“It’s still a comedy show, so they promise not to step on my toes or that type of thing, but they definitely want to know the title of the song, the subject matter of the song, can it be seen as an insult?”

After the Nov. 22 show aired apologizes were made by ?uestlove, Jimmy Fallon and NBC vice president of late night programming Doug Vaughan.

As ?uestlove stated:

“It was kind of wrong for me to throw (NBC) under the bus without telling them what it was, so I understand from a business standpoint.”

As for Fishbone, it turns out that the cover of Lyin’ Ass Bitch couldn’t have come at a better time with a new DVD documentary dropping on Feb. 7 titled Everyday Sunshine: The Story of Fishbone.

The song has also become the bands most popular listened to song on music streaming service Spotify.

As for the Roots their CD Undun released last week to excellent reviews and fan approval. As PasteMagazine note:

Undun is a brilliant reminder of the power of the emcee as storyteller, the possibility of 40 minutes of music lending itself to a thoughtful character and plot. And this album will last a whole lot longer than a viral video of The Roots covering “Lyin’ Ass Bitch” on Fallon for Michele Bachmann.

You may remember that back in November, The Roots drummer Questlove caught some heat for his pick of an intro song, “Lyin’ Ass Bitch“, for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon guest Michele Bachmann.

Questlove ultimately apologized for his stunt, but NBC suits weren’t content to let him off with just an apology. From now on, Questlove will have to clear intro songs for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon guests with three different NBC executives before they can use it.

In an interview in Rollnig Stone magazine, Questlove says that he was woken up by a phone call at 9 a.m. the morning after and was summoned to 30 Rock where he was told that, from now on, he’ll have to clear each song. Not only that, but the executives barred him from tweeting about the “incident”.

“It was a real bummer. We don’t want to censor anyone, but . . . I don’t know. Maybe Questlove is a Romney guy,” Jimmy Fallon told Rolling Stone.

Jimmy Fallon and Questlove have both apologized to Michele Bachmann for playing “Lying Ass Bitch” as her intro song earlier this week on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.” But that isn’t enough for the GOP candidate. Bachmann says that the song was sexist and that NBC has a double standard for conservative women. Bachmann said that she would like an apology from the network.

Bachmann told Fox News this morning:

“If that song had been played for Michelle Obama, I have no doubt that NBC would have apologized to her and likely they could have fired the drummer, at least suspended him. None of that happened from NBC. And this is clearly a form of bias on the part of the Hollywood entertainment elite, but it’s also, I think, sexism as well. This wouldn’t be tolerated if this was Michelle Obama; it shouldn’t be tolerated if it’s a conservative woman either.”

Bachmann said that NBC should fire whoever was responsible for picking the song, which in this case, is Roots bandleader Questlove.

After the incident Questlove issued an apology on Twitter.

“The performance was a tongue-in-cheek and spur of the moment decision … The show was not aware of it and I feel bad if her feelings were hurt. That was not my intention.”

Jimmy Fallon also issued an apology to Bachman and said that he would love to have her back on the show. Fallon said:

“I’m honored that @michelebachmann was on our show yesterday and I’m so sorry about the intro mess. I really hope she comes back… it was a fun interview. She helped me with my Minnesota accent. (I still sound Irish).”

NBC hasn’t fired Questlove and it hasn’t issued an apology yet.

Bachmann may be upset with NBC and the Roots, but she apparently has no problem with Mr. Fallon. Bachmann said:

“I don’t have anything against Jimmy Fallon. I love him, he’s a kick. It was a great opportunity to be on the show. I’d love to go back again.”
