Emily Maynard spent last year chasing “The Bachelor” but in 2012 she’s turning the tables. Maynard will be the object of affection this year as she steps into the shoes of “The Bachelorette.”

It isn’t a done deal yet, but multiple sources are reporting that Maynard has signed on for the show’s 8th season.

It’s also rumored that ABC will be bringing the show, as well as the eligible bachelors, to Maynard. The show, which usually films in Los Angeles, will head to North Carolina where Maynard raises her daughter, Ricki.

US Magazine reports that Maynard will step into the shoes of “The Bachelorette” about one year after she broke off her engagement to “The Bachelor” Brad Womack.

Maynard said she called the wedding off because she didn’t see eye to eye with Womack on the possibility of having children. Womack said:

“I wanted to be married and have more children, but I doubted he was going to still want to be with me. As a single mom, I don’t have the luxury of saying “we’ll figure it out when we get there.” I need that reassurance that he’d want to be with me six weeks down the road much less six years.”

After filming “The Bachelor” Maynard said that she didn’t like being a celebrity. Maynard said: 

“Anyone who is on ‘The Bachelor’ or ‘The Bachelorette’ should expect that attention. Once the cameras stopped rolling, you can expect to be followed at the grocery store. I could barely leave my home with the paparazzi following me…I don’t want to worry about whether cameramen are in my bushes, or if my private conversations end up in a tabloid.”

It looks like she’s changed her mind.

In case you missed the first episode of this year’s Bachelorette, Ashley Herbert seriously needs to have her douche radar checked. The Maine native is falling for Bentley Williams, a contestant who doesn’t have the slightest interest in having anything other than sex with her.

“I came in not thinking Ashley was attractive at all,” Bentley tells the cameras. “Having her tickle my pickle, that’s like the extent in terms of my interest. She’s just not my type. Cute girl, I’d call her a cute girl, but not an Emily!”

After Herbert begged him to stay on the show

“You need to stop talking and listen to me now,” Ashley continues. “If you feel something for me, please stick around. I wish you could sit inside of me and know. Please, please, please stick around. Please, please, please.”

the cameras intereviewed Bentley only to have him say:

“There’s no question that Ashley doesn’t have the check list that I’m looking for in a future wife, I could give a f*** about her.”

It’s going to be interesting to see if she keeps him around despite his obvious lack of interest in her.

Former Bachelorette contestant Julien Hug, reported missing Monday, was found dead yesterday in Southern California.

Hug, 35, competed on season five of the reality dating show. His father, well-known restauranteur Bertrand Hug, confirmed to local news sources that the body located in a car in a remote area was that of his son, Julien:

Bertrand Hug told 10News Julien was on his way to help manage the family’s newest restaurant in Palm Desert, Augusta Modern. He said two days ago his son’s phone went dead while he was driving somewhere on Highway 74 in Riverside County, which was the last time anyone had heard from him.

Cause of death for Hug was not immediately known, but law enforcement officials say that that information should become available by Friday. Former contestants and the titular Bachelorette spoke to press about Julien and his unexpected death:

I will always remember Julien’s gentle demeanor and kind heart, which will be sadly missed,” Jillian Harris, the show’s object of desire in 2009, told TMZ.

“He was one of the most positive, selfless people I knew,” castmate and friend Kiptyn Locke told Radar Online. Locke said he’d known Hug before the two were on the show.

Hug was eliminated from the contest during the second episode of season five.

Fetch the length of hose, start the car. Because there is no God*, Warner Bros. and Ludia today announced plans to develop and publish games based on the TV dating shows The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. People, we are looking into the abyss.

“The Bachelor and The Bachelorette are extremely popular on television and we are looking forward to bringing the properties into the videogame space,” said John Quinn, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Operations, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “These games are meant to engage fans of the show and the wider public beyond television, enriching the overall entertainment experience around the brand.”

These will be launching across various platforms following the end of The Bachelor’s 14th season in 2010.

Chad Concelmo at Destructoid ponders how they’re going to make a game out of this, and I’m right with him. At least with other crap TV show/gaming tie-ins – think Deal or No Deal, Who Wants to be A Millionnaire? – there’s something inherently gamey about the source material. But what’s this going to be, precisely? An on-rails third-person shooter? A quick-reflex 2D fighter? There’s no obvious framework.

Unless … well, they’re inexplicably big in Japan, but could this be the west’s first popular dating sim?

29 year old Technology Consultant Ed Swiderski won over 31 year old Kiptyn Locke, but not before some surprise developments on the show.

Reid Rosenthal, who had been sent home two weeks ago returned to tell Jillian that he was in love with her and wanted to propose to her. In true reality TV show style, Jillian told Reid that she needed time to think, building some nice tension before she finally confirmed that Ed was the man for her.

For those not familiar with the show, the winner proposes to the Bachelorette, rainbows appear and they are supposed to live happily ever after…well, as much as these things are possible when you get to pick your future husband on a reality TV show.
