Texas Republican Supports Pipeline For The Sake Of Caribou Sex

Texas Republican Rep. Louis Gohmert supports the recently debated trans-Alaska pipeline but not for the sake of energy independence, but rather to help caribou have more sex.

During a meeting of the House Natural Resources committee Gohmert said that the warmth created as oil makes its way through the pipeline gets caribou ready for some hot and heavy behavior in the region.

According to Gohmert:

“So when they want to go on a date, they invite each other to head over to the pipeline. So my real concern now … if oil stops running through the pipeline … do we need a study to see how adversely the caribou would be affected if that warm oil ever quit flowing?”

The Washington Post calls the representatives call for action a “faux concern” and it apparently led fellow GOP Rep. Don Young of Alaska stifling his own laughter while stating:

“I’m not sure it’s warmth of the pipeline.”

So there you have it, politics in America have come down to discussing the finer points of caribou sex as we deal with more pressing issues such as high unemployment and terrorism.

Texas Missionary Couple Killed In Mexico

John and Wanda Casias moved to their home just to the north of the industrial city of Monterrey, Mexico in 1979 where they acted as missionaries until Wednesday when they were slain in their home.

According to eldest child Valerie Alirez the couple were found by one of her brothers in their Santiago, Nuevo Leon home.

Originally from Amarillo, Texas they moved to Mexico so John Casias could serve as a Baptist preacher. John and Wanda founded the First Fundamentalist Independent Baptist Church in Santiago.

Brother Shawn Casias who still lives in Monterrey said he went to his parents’ home at approximately 4 p.m. and when he entered the home Wanda Casias was lying on the floor with an electrical cord around her neck and a gash on her head.

The murders appear to have been part of a robbery with several computers missing along with a plasma TV and a safe that was chiseled out of the wall. Also missing was the couple’s Chevrolet Suburban.

The body of John Casias was found several hours after investigators began examining the property. John’s body was discovered inside a small building on the property.

Violence in the area has grown to astronomical levels in the last several years as the Zetas and Gulf drug cartels battle for territory in the region.

According to Shawn it’s likely that the criminals saw him coming from the families winding road because they chose to leave behind three TV sets and other items of potential value.

This wasn’t the first time the family has had trouble in the area, their home was burglarized two years ago when the couple were visiting the United States to talk with other churches about their work in Mexico.

An official investigation is ongoing at this time.

NASA questions Apollo 13 astronaut James Lovell’s sale of checklist

Back in November of last year, astronaut James Lovell auctioned off a 70-page “Lunar Module Activation Checklist” with his own hand-written calculations that, among other things, ultimately saved the Apollo 13 crew. Apparently, NASA has taken issue with the sale.

The checklist, which sold for $388,375, was auctioned off through Heritage Auctions out of Dallas, Texas. Nearly two months after its sale, NASA has moved to halt the sale, bringing into question whether or not Lovell actually had the “title to the checklist”.

“We haven’t filed a claim against [the checklist],” NASA spokesman Bob Jacobs told collectSPACE. “But what we have done is notify the auction house that we are seeking proof of ownership of the artifact. In conjunction with that, we’ve also notified the office of the Inspector General, which would be responsible for any investigation.”

NASA’s latest inquiry follows a bit of a legal scuffle with Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell just a few months before the Apollo 13 checklist went to auction. The agency sought to sue Mitchell unless he returned a 16 mm camera that he took with him to the moon, which he apparently intended to sell. The case was settled shortly after, with Mitchell handing over the camera to NASA, who then donated it to the National Air and Space Museum in Washington.

It may look as if NASA’s agenda as of late is to aggressively hunt down space items from their astronauts, but Jacobs denied any such agenda.

“It’s a challenge to continually monitor the growing auctions community, which is usually how these items come to light,” he said in an email to the Associated Press. “This latest issue demonstrates a need to reach out to former astronauts and other former agency personnel who may have these kind of items.”

14-Year-Old Texas Runaway Gets Deported By Accident

When 14-year-old American runaway Jakadrien Turner was taken in for questioning by local authorities she gave a fake name that matched that of a 22-year-old illegal alien, after a complete failure by officials to confirm her identity she was mistakenly deported to Colombia.

Upon arrival the American runaway did not know how to speak Spanish and took a job working long hours as a maid in Bogata. According to the Dallas Morning News she is now pregnant and her grandmother is furious.

Asking how such an act could occur she grandmother said:

“How do you deport a teenager and send her to Colombia without a passport, without anything?”

It was her grandmother in fact who located the girl using Facebook and not the agency that messed up her deportation.

Jakadrien is now being held in a Colombia detention facility and officials are refusing to release her despite the family’s pleas to send the little girl home.

In the meantime officials at Immigration and Customs Enforcement are investigating the case with a spokesman revealing:

“ICE takes these allegations very seriously.”

As for her grandmother, she realizes that at this time everything is out of her hands and has resigned to saying “I need help and I need a prayer.”

We have long known that the deportation process in America is fractured but the moment we start sending American teens to Colombia is the moment investigations need to be launched. If this girl was Caucasian and not African American I doubt this would have ever happened.

Ron Paul: AIDS Patients Bear Responsibility, Not Society

Ron Paul, The Libertarian Texas Congressman, is defending comments he made in his book “Freedom Under Siege”, where he said that society is not responsible for caring for AIDS patients. He said that AIDS patients have to bear the responsibility for their own diseases as it is their behavior that led to them getting sick in the first place.

“The individual suffering from AIDS certainly is a victim — frequently a victim of his own lifestyle — but this same individual victimizes innocent citizens by forcing them to pay for his care,” he wrote in the book.

Paul went on to say that everyone in life makes dumb decisions and that doesn’t mean that innocent citizens should have to pay for them.

He also called the idea that society should pay for anyone’s care as a “Socialistic Attitude” and said that Insurance companies should be responsible for determining care.

In the same book, Paul said that there should not any type of law against Sexual Harassment. He said that people can decide where they want to work and if they don’t like the way they are treated in a company they can go elsewhere. He went on to write that there are already violence in the workplace laws to deal with harassment that goes too far.

Paul does not apologize for these comments and in fact stands by them.

Paul is currently polling second in Iowa, which holds the nations first caucus this Tuesday. He says he is going to win because his supporters are way more loyal than anyone else. Some really recent polls show his standing slipping a bit.

Congressman Paul is often finding himself defending his views against the more mainstream candidates.

City’s Cracking Down On Seedy Underworld Of Garage Sales

Cities around the country are cracking down on the seedy underworld of home garage sales. While such sales have become as American as apple pie and Major League Baseball it turns out some residents around the country have turned the occasional garage sale into a full time business, something state officials around the country say is illegal.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal a Kansas state revenue agent notes:

”Anything they sell that doesn’t come out of their house is a taxable item, and we’ve had to shut a few down,”

While a Texas agent adds:

“It’s not a garage sale if residents are running businesses out of their homes, selling new merchandise.”

The issue lawmakers have with such a practice is the fact that items bought directly for resale require taxes to be paid and in most states require a reseller certificate to be awarded from the state of sale.

To fight the constant barrage of “garage sales as businesses” many cities have begun to set ordinances with yearly limits on garage sales per household, for example in Liberal, Kansas homeowners are only allowed to hold 4 garage sales per year and those sellers are required to request a license from the city.

It’s also apparently not just a question about taxes, in some cities officials have noticed a trend towards selling stolen goods at the garage sales while officials have seen yard sales literally setup in the yards of abandoned homes while the garage sales block up streets that are turned into “temporary parking lots.”

Allen Stanford Unfit for Trial? Witnesses Skeptical of Amnesia Claims

HOUSTON, Texas – infamous swindler and accused Ponzi scheme architect Allen Stanford, 61, allegedly suffers from memory loss so significant that he may be found unfit to stand for trial.

To bring everyone up to speed, Allen Stanford, formerly of Stanford Financial Group, was arrested in June 2009 for allegedly running a $7 billion Ponzi scheme. Stanford himself claims that he suffers from retrograde amnesia from a prison fight in 2009. This condition prevents him from recalling specific events from his life prior to his injury (how convenient) and though the fight occurred in 2009, the symptoms of his condition have only recently developed.

Professional opinions are divided. Prison psychologist Robert Cochrane who evaluated Stanford on Tuesday called such delayed memory loss “incredibly rare”, also adding that “You have amnesia right after an injury, you don’t have a delay”.

Prosecutors balk at Stanford’s claims, saying that there is no evidence to support his memory loss, pushing for the trial to go on as scheduled on January 23. U.S. District Judge David Hittner, the man overseeing the competency trial, says that he will only allow medical and mental health professionals to testify at the hearing, and Stanford’s defense apparently has several lined up.

Witnesses are split as well. One is skeptical of the claims while another holds that Stanford’s symptoms are consistent with retrograde amnesia.

Allen Stanford has been held without bail as a flight risk since his June 18, 2009 arrest. The case is U.S. v. Stanford, U.S. District Court, Southern District of Texas. No. 09-00342.

EU Restricts Sale of Lethal Injection Drugs to the US

The European Union announced on Wednesday that they were going to put new restrictions on all short and long acting anesthetics to country’s that have not abolished the death penalty.

The European Commission is strengthening export controls on Sodium Thipentol, and other drugs which are used as part of the lethal injection. The commission said to the Associated Press it wanted to “prevent their use for capital punishment, torture or other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.”

This had been a policy prerogative of death penalty abolitionists for a very long time. Currently no state in the European Union executes prisoners.

Many US states have already announced the delay of some executions from a shortage of Sodium Thiopental that has been going on for years. Other states have had to switch to other barbiturates in order to compensate. It is unclear if the new restrictions would have much, if any effect on US executions.

The EU restrictions are the latest in a long string of international restrictions aimed at the US Lethal Injection process. In April, Great Britain announced that it would not sell any of the three drugs used to execute prisoners anymore to the US. Indian Pharmaceutical companies have also followed suit. The Danish manufacturer of Phenobarbital (one of the replacement drugs being used by Texas, Georgia and Oklahoma) said it would no longer sell the drugs to anyone who would not sign a waiver that the drug would not be used in executions.

If the EU restrictions do have an effect on supply and force death penalty states to find new drugs, they open up all executions to new legal challenges on 8th amendment grounds. The 8th amendment prevents the use of cruel and unusual punishment.

Texas Family Awarded $150 Billion For Man Being Burned Alive

A Texas jury awarded the family of a man burned alive when he was 8 the highest award ever recorded in the history of jurisprudence…a whopping $150 Billion Dollars!

The Associated Press is reporting that Robert Middleton was set on fire when he was 8 years old and has been in the hospital ever since. Well, as fate would have it he succumbed to his wounds 12 years later and died when he was 20. An attorney for the family of Middleton filed a wrongful death suit against Don Willburn Collins for setting Robert on fire 12 years ago.

Collins is in prison currently for an unrelated sex crime. Neither he nor any attorney representing him was present for the trial. The Texas Department of Correction has no comment on the matter.

The family knows that this verdict is symbolic and none of the money will actually ever be paid. The wanted to make a statement by asking for more money than the second largest verdict in history, the $145 Billion dollars awarded to the State of Florida when it won its suit against the tobacco companies. The Jury was happy to comply.

Should this verdict have made it this far or is it a colossal waste of taxpayers money?

Lauren Scruggs Loses Eye Weeks After Plane Propeller Accident

DALLAS, TEXAS – Model and fashion blogger Lauren Scruggs had her left eye removed on Thrusday, several weeks after she lost her hand duirng a plane propeller accident.

Doctors on Wednesday performed the delicate surgery at Dallas’ Parkland Hospital. Scruggs now had a prosthesis implanted where her eye use to be.

Following the surgery her family members posted the following message on her CaringBridge.com site:

“Over the last week, we have been praying for a miracle for the healing of Lo’s left eye,” and “We are thankful for all of the strong and powerful prayers for this and the surgery today.”

The website statement continued:

“Along with the pain she was already experiencing with her arm and shoulder injuries, the removal of the left (eye) is also very painful,” an “We are asking again for prayers to relieve this pain, and also, as we have posted previously, pray for Lo to regain her appetite. This is crucial for her body to heal quickly.”

The surgery comes just two days after Scruggs was able to walk unassisted and eat solid foods.

After walking into the spinning propeller of a single engine plane on Dec. 3 Scruggs suffered head, brain, shoulder and arm injuries.

Speaking about the success of the surgery her father Jeff Scruggs told reporters:

“She’s smiling… She’s able to raise both eyebrows,” and “That doesn’t sound like a big deal, but they were worried about the nerve, on one side, and she’s able to do that, so we’re so grateful and thankful for all of that.”

Two Students Shot at Texas Middle School

Two students were wounded by gunfire during basketball tryouts at a Texas middle school on Monday, the >Associated Press reports. Authorities suspect that hunters may be responsible.

Two boys, ages 13 and 14, were shot while playing basketball outside of Harvell Middle School, said Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino in a statement. School was not in session at the time, but Edinburg school district spokesman Gilbert Tagle said that several after-school activities were going on at the time, and roughly 200 children could have been on campus.

One of the gunshot victims, a 14-year-old boy, is said to be in critical condition with a bullet embedded in one of his organs. The other boy, the 13-year-old, is believed to be in stable condition after undergoing surgery to remove the bullet.

According to a report by The Brownsville Herald, three hunters are now in police custody after the shooting. Authorities say that it is not yet known whether the gunshots that left two boys in the hospital was an accident or deliberate.

Trevino said that the shots occurred at around 4:45 pm and originated from a field west of the school, which authorities suspect was leased for deer hunting. One of the students was shot while trying to perform a layup, and the other was shot while sitting on a bench awaiting his turn.

Harvell Middle School was placed on lockdown immediately following the shooting.

Texas A&M University Hires Head Coach Kevin Sumlin

Coach Kevin Sumlin is taking his top-notch Houston offense from Conference USA to the Southeastern Conference as the new head coach of the Texas A&M football team.

Sumlin replaces former Aggies coach Mike Sherman who was fired nearly two weeks ago after a disappointing 6-6 season that included a monumental collapse during the second half of the season.

In the meantime the Aggies (6-6) will take on Northwestern (6-6) in the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Houston on Dec. 31, a game that will be helmed by interim coach Tim DeRuyter. Following that game the team will move from the Big 12 to the SEC for the 2012 season.

Speaking about the hiring of Sumlin A&M athletic director Bill Byrne said n a press release:

“(We) spoke to many worthy and qualified candidates, but my decision, which was made in consultation with president (R. Bowen) Loftin, kept leading me to Kevin.”

Byrne added:

“I believe he is the right person to lead our football program into the Southeastern Conference. First of all, Kevin is a terrific person. He is also one heck of a recruiter and he will put together a great staff.”

The former Houston coach has some experience at the University having worked as an assistant under R.C. Slocum during the 2001-2002 period.

In a statement about his new job Sumlin noted:

“I am very excited about the opportunity to serve as the head football coach at Texas A&M University,” and “Having coached there before, I understand the culture and embrace the commitment by the 12th Man regarding Aggie football. Aggieland is a special place and I look forward to working with the young men in the football program and recruiting the type of players we need to be successful in the SEC.”

Speculation of a Sumlin hire heated up after Sherman finished his fourth season as the universities head coach with a 25-25 record and Sumlin took the Cougars to 12-1 this season with a final showdown against 9-3 Penn State scheduled for the Jan. 2 TicketCity Bowl.

Assistant coach Tony Levine will serve as the schools interim head coach.

During his time at Houston Sumlin racked up a 35-17 record in four seasons, routinely ranking as one of the nation’s highest scoring teams.

Houston won their first 12 games of the season and were in line for a Bowl Championship series until they lost to Southern Mississippi in the Conference USA championship game.

An official press conference will be held on Monday at which point Sumlin will be officially introduced as A&M’s new head coach.

Desperate Mother Denied Food Stamps, Shoots Children And Kills Herself

Rachelle Grimmer, 38, a single mother of two who recently moved to Texas took hostages at a Texas welfare office on Tuesday in a desperate attempt to receive food stamps.

According to reports Rachelle moved to the state from Ohio and she did not obtain the proper paperwork to obtain aid which likely led to her outburst.

While meeting at the Laredo, Texas welfare office Grimmer pulled a gun on a caseworker. After nearly seven hours of negotiations Rachelle allowed everyone to leave the office but kept her children at her side. Shortly after that time she shot both children before committing suicide with a single gunshot.

Grimmers 12-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son are listed in “very critical” condition. The children were rushed to the hospital after a Swat team stormed onto the scene after hearing three gun shot rounds.

According to KABB-TV Ramie Marie said Grimmer reached out for help on Facebook while inside the office, noting “Tear gas seriasly.” She also changed her work status at the time to “May die 2day.”

It’s believed that Grimmer’s move to the state along with a complicated 18-page file that must be filled out to receive food stamps may have led to her actions. In the state of text employment, rent and other proofs of unemployment must be filled out and submitted.

According to local officials while offices in the state have been overburdened in recent years the Laredo office had made “significant strides” over the last three years to help ensure those in need received help in a time manner.

Texas A&M Coach Mike Sherman Fired

Texas A&M has fired men’s football head coach after the Aggies ended the season with a .500 record (6-6).

In a statement about the school’s decision Athletic director Bill Byrne announced:

“I appreciate coach Sherman’s selfless service to Texas A&M as our head football coach and his tireless efforts in building leaders of character … He is truly one of the great offensive minds in football, both collegiate and professional, and I know that he has much to offer the game of football in the future.”

Sherman has been with A&M for four seasons but has managed only a break even record of 25-25. With three years remaining on the coaches contract he will be paid nearly $5.8 million to walk away from the program. In the meantime a source at ESPN says the coach believes he is owed $8.8 million.

The coaches only winning season came in 2010 when A&M finished with a 9-4 record but lost in the Cotton Bowl.

Currently under consideration for the head coaching position are Houston’s Kevin Sumlin, Louisville’s Charlie Strong and Alabama’s Kirby Smart.

Showing support for the coach was former Texas A&M pass-rusher Von Miller who tweeted:

Current and former players expressed their thanks and support for Sherman via Twitter as they learned the news Thursday night.

“It’s unfortunate to see Coach Sherm go. He is like another father to me. He helped me become the person I am today. I will never forget, never.”

Texas Judge William Adams Suspended After Beating Daughter On Video

Texas Judge William Adams has been suspended from the bench after his daughter leaked a brutal beating video onto YouTube.

According to officials Adams has been suspended effective immediately and he will not be paid during the current inquiry by the State Commission on Judicial Ethics.

Williams chose to temporarily walk away from the bench before the suspension was handed down after he was witnessed by millions of YouTube viewers as he beat his disabled daughter with a belt.

In an order signed on Tuesday it was made clear that while Adams agreed to the temporary suspension and waived the hearing and notice requirement he does not admit any “guilt, fault or wrongdoing” in the case that is currently under review.

The video was taken in 2004 and his daughter Hillary Adams is now 23-years-old. After releasing the video Hillary said she had no choice because her father’s abusive issues were escalating.

PETA Wants “Turkey, Texas” To Change Name To “Tofurky, Texas”

PETA in their never-ending attempt to gain publicity for their cause have decided this time to go after an entire town. The animal rights activist group is asking the town of Turkey, Texas to change their name.

So what does the rights organization want the town to be called? How about “Tofurky.”

PETA isn’t asking for a permanent change, they are simply asking that the city changes their name for one day, Thanksgiving.

In a letter to the town’s mayor the group writes:

“If you agree to adopt this moniker for just one day, we’d be happy to provide a delicious, healthy vegan holiday feast for all the town’s residents.”

In their letter the team at PETA says Tofurky is:

“A savory, flavorful, ‘meaty’ vegan entrée with wild-rice and bread-crumb stuffing that is 100% cruelty-free.”

In responding to PETA locals seemed less than impress with one telling ConnectAmarillo.com:

“I think it’s about the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.”

With that type of general reaction it shouldn’t come as a surprise that city officials are rumored to have turned down the request.

If City officials would have said yes other side dishes they would have been enjoying would have included “mashed potatoes (made with vegan margarine)” and “vegan apple pie topped with vanilla dairy-free ice cream.”

This newest publicity stunt is almost as laughable as the Mario Bros. Tanooki suit which PETA decided to go batty over earlier this week, even though Mario’s animal suits have existed for more than a one and a half decades.

NASCAR Fines Kyle Busch $50K, On Probation For Rest Of Season

NASCAR driver Kyle Busch has been fined $50,000 and placed on probation for the remainder of the 2011 racing season after he took retaliatory actions during Friday night’s Truck Series race at Texas Motor Speedway.

According to officials if Busch does anything that is detrimental to stock car racing or NASCAR “or is disruptive to the orderly conduct of an event” he will be immediately suspended.

Both bush and his team at Joe Gibbs Racing are not commenting on Busch’s actions which included intentionally wrecking the race car of championship contender Ron Hornaday Jr. during lap 14 of 148 laps while under caution. Busch did however issue an open letter to his sponsors and fans on Monday:

“I understand why I was taken out of the car for the rest of the weekend. NASCAR officials had to act, and I accept their punishment and take full responsibility for my actions,” Busch wrote. “As a racecar driver, the hardest thing to do is to sit on the sidelines listening to cars on the track when you know you should be out there competing. For this, I have no one to blame but myself.”

Busch is the first driver since August 2007 to be taken out of a Cup race and was replaced by Michael McDowell who finished in 33rd place.

Busch had pushed Hornaday into the wall after Ron made contact with his race car during a three-wide tap right before the caution.

With only one race left Hornaday fell from third to fourth in the points standings, falling from 15 to 48 points back.

In his own statement Hornaday said he would have been at Busch’s house Monday morning if NASCAR hadn’t parked him.

Judge Under Investigation After Daughter Posted Beating On YouTube [Video]

Texas judge William Adams is under hot water and part of a police investigation after his daughter posted a video of a severe beating he gave her in 2004.

In the seven minute clip HIllary Adams is spanked hard and repeatedly with her fathers belt.

Speaking about her decision to finally release the video she told KRIS TV:

”My father’s harassment was getting really bad, so I decided to finally publish the video that I had been sitting on for seven years,”

In response to her statement her father who is an Aransas County Court Judge said:

“It happened years ago. … I apologized.” while adding, “It’s not as bad as it looks on tape.”

Her father was beating her for allegedly downloading music off the internet and in the text accompanying the video she wrote:

”She has had ataxic cerebral palsy from birth that led her to a passion for technology, which was strictly forbidden by her father’s backwards views.”

The video has received more than 600,000 views on various YouTube channels after it was posted on Reddit, a social bookmarking community with a long history for provided a “protective” aspect against social wrongs.

Tony Romo and Wife Candice Crawford Are Pregnant

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and his wife Candice Crawford (Gossip Girl) announced on Tuesday that they are expecting their first child.

Romo, 31, revealed the pregnancy while visiting a high school outside of Dallas. A student asked Tony if he had any children at which time Romo said:

“I’ve actually got one on the way. My wife’s pregnant.”

After Romo made the announcement the video below shows Crawford grabbing onto her not yet showing pregnant belly:

It’s great news for Tony Romo and his former Miss USA contestant wife who have been married for five months.

In the meantime Romo’s former girlfriend Jessica Simpson has yet to confirm her own pregnancy and this news could make her baby on the way feel an awful lot like a “copy cat” pregnancy.

Texas Prisoners Don’t Get Lunch On Weekends

It’s no secret that many prisoners are better fed than poor families, receiving three square meals a day everyday of the week, unless of course those prisoners are in Texas. In an attempt to cut back on food costs some facilities in the state have began cutting weekend lunches from their routine.

The practice began in April when the state began serving what they call “brunch” (their combination breakfast/lunch) which is provided to inmates between 5am and 7am.

Under their “brunch” plan the states prison system has shied away from American Correctional Association guidelines which calls for three meals per day, although some wiggle room is allowed under those rules.

Under Texas law prisoners are only required to be fed “three times in any 24-hour period,” which under their current feeding schedule would mean they are within their own guidelines if the prisoner begins eating his weekend brunch at the same time each day.

Before enacting their new policy prison officials say they spoke with health officials and dieticians about the change and they believe all legalities have been met for prisoner safety.

Speaking like a true chef one state senator said:

“If they don’t like the menu, don’t come here in the first place.”

Texas isn’t alone in their weekend meal cutting strategy, the Plainfield Correctional Facility in Indiana has also cut weekend meals for inmates.

Texas also recently became the first state to cut out their “last meal” program for death row inmates who are about to receive a lethal injection.
