Bryon Widner was considered one of the most dangerous and notorious white supremacists in the United States until he had a change of heart. There was only one problem, while Widner turned his back on racism and hate he still had years of tattoos on his face that said otherwise.

According to Widner his face tattoos made it impossible for him to find work while he was shunned by society. His public standing became so bad that Widner actually considered dousing his face in acid at one point just to remove them.

Eventually Widner and his wife turned to a former sworn enemy, the Southern Poverty Law Center, a nonprofit civil rights group that hunts down hate groups and aggressively tries to shut them down.

After meeting with Widner and realizing he had turned a new leaf the organization found a donor willing to pay the $35,000 cost needed to remove the facial tattoos.

Because of the extent to which he had tattoo’d his face (pictured above) it took almost an entire year to find doctors with the necessary skills to remove the tattoos. When all was said and done Widner underwent 25 painful surgeries on his face, neck and hands, all of which had to be performed under general  anesthesia.

After each surgery Widner awoke with burns and oozing blisters, all which healed over time but provided him with increasing pain.

To this very day the former white supremacist says he suffers form occasional migraines and he must stay out of the sun but when he talks about his new life with his wife and son he says “it’s a small price to pay for being human.”

As for his former supremacists? Widner and his family fled Michigan after cow manure was found on their vehicles and threats were made against his family.

Former White Supremacist Turns His Back On Hate, Has Face Tattoos Painfully Removed is a post from: The Inquisitr

A Georgia dad has been sentenced to probation after local child protective services discovered the man had tattooed his toddler while drunk.

26-year-old Eugene Ashley inked “DB”- for “daddy’s boy”- into the child’s skin in 2009. Georgia state law forbids tattooing a child under the age of 18, and the illegal ink wasn’t discovered until Georgia’s Department of Child Services visited Ashley’s home and spotted the “egregious” violation. (It’s not clear why the agents were at Ashley’s home in the first place.)

District Attorney Leigh Patterson said that due to the child’s very young age, pursuing Ashley criminally would have been a challenge:

Patterson called the crime egregious and said the child told DFCS the tattoo hurt. But she also said it would have been impossible to go to a jury with the case because of the victim’s age.

“I don’t know if we would be able to elicit a testimony from a child,” Patterson said.

Ashley was fined $300, and given a year of probation. The little boy now lives with an uncle.

One of the mainstays of the whole Singularity movement is the idea that at some point human kind will merge with computers for some sort of new synthesis and while this admittedly futuristic idea from Frog Design might seem a little outrageous it probably one be one step towards the ideal Singularity.

The interesting thing is that Frog Design‘s founder Martmut Esslinger first conceived of his technology that would see us able to print out customized electronic processing units onto our skin some 5 years ago. Called Dattoos, or DNA Tattoos, they would include input and output tools along the lines of a camera, microphone – it would be up to the user who would also be able to select the look.

Conceived for the 2005 Forrester Consumer Forum, the Dattoo was a response to the still-increasing trend of self-expression through connectivity technology – in a sense, you could call it the ultimate smart phone skin. The idea was to “realize a state of constant, seamless connectivity and computability requir[ing] the convergence of technology and self.” This meant that the body itself would need to become the interface, and would supply the required energy. Because Dattoos would largely replace three-dimensional tools such as smart phones or laptops, the environment would be spared the costs of producing, transporting and disposing of those items.

The interesting part of this as well is that Dattoos would be totally temporary – as in able to be washed off – and applied to clothing as well as our skin. Literally you would be able to change your wearable computer interface to whatever you wanted and while this is only a concept at this point there is no doubt that at some point we could very well see something similar.

Now these tats are a part of a larger collection but to me provided a good range of down right cool through to what were you thinking ink jobs.

However where some people go insanely overboard other get themselves stamped with what has to be some really stupid tattoos. To be right up front I am not a big fan of tattoos – on male or female – especially when it gets to the full body stage. That said though these fantastic images from photographer Warwick Saint definitely display the sexy look that beautiful done tattoos can add to a woman’s appearance.

A software company called ThinkAnApp in Buenos Aires has come up with an augmented reality tattoo.

When viewed through a specially equipped camera that seemingly plain box tattoo on your arm will suddenly start displaying a three-dimensional dragon.

Now I’m not big on either the whole augmented reality or tattoos but damn this would be really cool.

A tattoo artist in Britain is paying tribute to his son by mixing the boy’s ashes with ink for a memorial tattoo.

Mark Richmond, 39, lost his son Ayden to a rare condition that left the boy unable to process fats. Ayden was two years, four months old at the time of his death, and Richmond and wife Lisa wanted a “lasting tribute” to Ayden. Richmond was inspired to do the tattoo while inking another grieving father, dad of murder victim Sophie Lancaster. Richmond said:

“He wanted a portrait of Sophie done as a way to help heal the scars of losing his daughter and I thought that’s something I’d like to have done too.”

Mr Richmond said he still “feels at a loss and a little bit angry” about losing Ayden.

He has not been to visit his grave yet in Evesham, Worcestershire, and said he hoped the tattoo would help him cope.

Richmond plans to use the ink in a 7″ black and white portrait tattoo, and that his wife intends to get one as well after their fourth child is born. He said some people are judgmental about the plan, but he intends to go forward with it Wednesday:

“Some people might think it’s a bit morbid, but until they have been through what we have, I don’t think they can really judge us.”

I’m not big on tattoos but I know a lot of people are and recently in London, England, the fifth London Tattoo Convention was held. Over 200 body artists from different countries took part as did countless number of people either admiring the work on display or getting just that perfect tat done.

Twilight tattoos are not news- Stephenie Meyer cited them in her critique of certain lines in the movie.

However, the sheer volume of horrible tattoos being inked in homage to this literary abortion and the Diet Coke of vampires is astounding. Edward Cullen, as a character, squicks Robert Pattinson out:

“When you read the book,” says Pattinson, looking appropriately pallid and interesting even without makeup, “it’s like, ‘Edward Cullen was so beautiful I creamed myself.’ I mean, every line is like that. He’s the most ridiculous person who’s so amazing at everything. I think a lot of actors tried to play that aspect. I just couldn’t do that. And the more I read the script, the more I hated this guy, so that’s how I played him, as a manic-depressive who hates himself. Plus, he’s a 108-year-old virgin so he’s obviously got some issues there.”

Although not as much as the author of Twilight herself does:

“When I read it … I was convinced that Stephenie was convinced that she was Bella, and … it was like it was a book that wasn’t supposed to be published, like reading her — her sort of sexual fantasy about some — especially when she says that it was based on a dream, and it’s like, “Oh, then I had a dream about this really sexy guy” and she just writes this book about it, and there’s some things about Edward that are just so specific that … I was just convinced that this woman is mad, she’s completely mad, and she’s in love with her own fictional creation. I like tattoos as long as they are done properly and don’t make you look like some idiot in the process. I’ve seen many that are some pretty incredible works of art and while I might not be one to have any myself I can appreciate those that do – to a point.

The simple truth is that there are times where you should really think twice about getting that brilliant idea transferred onto your skin. These are examples of those times.

There’s making money and then I guess there is making lots of money for something as simple as getting a tattoo. However if you are Russian porn star Anna Morgan and that tattoo is going on your DD breasts then it had better be a lot of money.

Well it turns out that MyMMOShop.com, a World of Warcraft gold selling site, is more than willing to cough up half a million bucks to have it’s logo and URL placed on the prime territory of Anna’s breasts.

The WoW Gold selling website, MyMMOShop.com has paid Russian porn star Anna Morgan to tattoo their company’s logo and website URL to her breasts. The company feels that her natural dd sized breasts will provide an ample space for the advertisement. Given the number of films porn stars tend to make in a year’s time, the tattoo should be seen many thousands of times. Anna has agreed not to alter the tattoo for at least two years.

Rihanna loves her tattoos. She regularly gets new tramp stamps, although to date she has kept them pretty tasteful.

So far she has a treble clef and a 16th note on her right foot, a star which is inside her left ear, a symbol of friendship behind her right ear, a cluster of stars on the back of her neck and the sshh written on the inside of her index finger. She also has a sanskrit writing down her side, which you can see on the cover of her album.

On her recent tour of Australia and New Zealand, her and Chris Brown picked up matching New Zealand tribal tattoos.

Ever wondered who her tattooist was? Wonder no more, he is a 23 year old guy who calls himself BangBang. Bangbang is the guy shown in the photograph above with Rhianna showing off her sanskrit tat.

Meet Isobel Varley, the Guiness Worls Record Book Holder for the Worlds Most Senior Tattooed Woman. Every centimetre of her body is tattooed, including her *ahems* you know what I mean. She is not your ordinary Grandma.

The tattoos are on her genitals, hnads feet, head neck and armpits. Imagine explaining that at Grandparents Day at elementary school.

You can read Isobel Varley’s website which documents her personal history with the ink, but here are some of my favourite quotes:

In 2006 I decided that I would get the whole of my scalp completely covered. The most difficult aspect about this was that I had to have the whole my head completely shaved. When Paul set about tattooing the head I left the choice of subject to him but when I found that he was tattooing

As I was going for complete coverage and Brent had only done a little work on and in the genital area, Alan tackled this area first.
