Several burglars in Oregon this week stole a rare coin collection worth thousands of dollars and then not realizing what they had poured the coin-collection in a counting machine. When all was said the done the stupid criminals ended up with just $450.

Speaking about the decision made by the criminals the victim Dan Johnson Sr. says:

”To not know the value of what they had taken, just to get pocket change for it. Makes me feel good he was a stupid person and didn’t realize what he had.”

That “stupid person” he’s referring to is his very own son Dan Johnson Jr.

After nearly 500 silver quarters could not be sorted the burglars took them to a bank, those coins are now being returned to Mr. Johnson.

Coinstar also allowed Johnson to pour over the coins inserted into the machine, however some have been elusive to find including coins from the early 20th century.

As for what Johnson planned to do with the coins? He says of the collection:

“I lost an inheritance that was meant to go forward for my children and grandchildren.”

Well apparently one of his kids couldn’t wait and took his part of the inheritance at a discounted rate with a criminal record attached.

One thing is for certain, this case proves once again that we are not lacking in the stupid criminal department in our country.

36-year-old Carmen Tisch was arrested after she she punched a $30 million painting and then pulled down her pants and began rubbing up against the oil-on-oil canvas known as “1957-J no.2.”

According to museum curators Tisch caused nearly $10,000 worth of damage to the abstract expressionist piece by Clyfford Still.

As should be expected Tisch was quickly charged with felony criminal mischief and has been held on $20,000 bond since late December.

A police report at the time of the incident says Tisch was drunk.

Fortunately Denver art gallery owner Ivar Zeile, told the Denver Post that because the canvas wasn’t pierced the painting can likely be restored.

“It does damage the piece, though, even people just knowing what happened,” he added.

The damaged artwork comes just after Denver worked for years with Still’s widow to secure enough works to start a single-artist museum. In fact last year Sotheby’s auctions off four works for $114 million to endow the Denver Museum which opened to great fanfare in November 2011.

Adding to the excitement of Clyfford Still work was the fact that he had closely guarded many of his pieces which meant many were on display for the very first time.

In the meantime Tisch will be formally made aware of all charges against her on Friday.

Do you think Carmen Tisch should be responsible for the entire value of the painting or is the $10,000 in damages enough to teach her a lesson? Perhaps being known as the “butt rubbing” criminal for the rest of her life is punishment enough.

Jesse Dimmick took a couple hostage in Kansas and now he’s suing them after they fled from their home and alerted police about the situation. According to Dimmick the couple broke an oral contract when they promised to hide him from police in exchange for money.

The obviously unhinged criminal says the couple promised to keep him safe but after he fell asleep they snuck out of their home and called the police.

In his filing Dimmick writes:

“As a result of the plaintiffs breech (sic) of contract, I, the defendant suffered a gunshot to my back, which almost killed me. The hospital bills alone are in excess of $160,000, which I have no way to pay.”

Dimmick was shot when a City of Topeka officers gun went off and he quickly turned around and sued the city for $75,000. After learning about his court case the couple sued the criminal for $75,000 claiming emotional distress.

After the hostages case was file Dimmick filed a countersuit to the tune of $235,000, while stating in his lawsuit that he will represent himself “without the aid of proffesional (sic) legal counsel.”

This is one court case I’m almost certain will lead to a quick dismissal, after all a contract is only valid if the parties agreeing to the contract are not placed under duress. I’m pretty sure being held hostage is considered being under duress.

In February 2010 an American citizen who was arrested for dealing drugs told a Utah judge that he was illegal Mexican immigrant Saul Quiroz, rather than facing time in jail he was promptly sent to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for deportation.

Apparently not learning from his past mistake the same man was arrested once against in Salt Lake County in February 2011 and rather than sticking with his “illegal immigrant” story the man told the same judge that he was “in fact a United States Citizen.”

Once again the criminal was sent to ICE several months later at which point they verified who he was and determined that he had re-entered the U.S. on April 10, 2010, by having his U.S. Passport sent to him for re-entry.

Now apart from facing charges for his original offense the man is also under hot water for using a false name and claiming to be a Mexican national “to avoid a lengthy prison term because of his drug conviction.”

One of his offenses, one count of false or inconsistent material statements in a court of law is a second-degree felony.

The man was charged on Wednesday and is currently awaiting trial.

While I don’t agree with the criminals tactics perhaps ICE should learn from this case and be more careful with who they are deporting in record numbers.

If you can’t beat em, burn em to the ground, that was the idea hatched and executed by two Domino’s pizza manager 10 days ago.

The incident occurred in Lake City, Florida when Sean Everett Davidson, 23, confessed to an October 20 arson attack on a competing Papa John’s pizza franchise. One day after arresting Davidson police arrested another manager Bryan David Sullivan, 22, who was also charged with arson.

After being arrested the men admitted to the fire and also said they had built an “ignition” device to start the fire but then decided against using it. Both men say they dismantled the device which included an 8-inch-long clock and 9-volt battery at which point they threw it out a car window while driving down the interstate.

If anyone spots the clock, battery or a small ball of black gunpowder while driving down I-75 in Central Florida they are advised to call 911 immediately and report the exact location of the bomb making hardware. Based on the men’s account of their ignition device specialists from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives say it would likely not explode but instead create a large flash.

According to the Ocala Star-Banner police the men’s motivation was simple, they wanted to increase their own sales figures by eliminating a competitor for as long as possible.

Is this the dumbest criminal story you’ve heard this week?

If you’re dad ever asks you to do your chores while holding a sword I suggest you heed his request. Antonio Guiterrez, 43, of Ventura, CA reportedly attacked his 18-year-old son on Sunday afternoon after he refused to perform his household choirs.

Antonio apparently told his son he was being lazy and then the argument heated up at which point the father picked up a 4-foot-long sword and attacked. John, the son, attempted to use his hands to shield himself from the weapon only to receive severe lacerations across the inside of his palms.

According to police the teenager “bled profusely” from the attack but is in stable condition after being treated at a nearby hospital.

The boys father originally fled from the family’s residence only to return home several hours later at which point he was arrested by police and charged for assault with a deadly weapon.

No statement has been released by Antonio Guiterrez or his son at this time.

In 1984 Joseph Schexnider vanished off the face of the earth and despite their best efforts his Louisiana family was never able to find him, that is until this year when his body was discovered inside the chimney of a bank.

The historic banking location was being renovated when construction workers discovered his remains in May, while his identity wasn’t revealed until recently through the use of forensics, he was just 22-years-old when he disappeared.

Investigators say the cause of death was likely attributed to dehydration and starvation.

Schexnider was reported missing when he failed to appear in court for a hearing regarding the possession of a stolen vehicle.

Investigators say he was only found with gloves and a cigarette lighter and no evidence that he was planning to steal from the bank, although being lodged in the chimney is probably a pretty good indicator for what he had planned.

I’d be curious to know why he didn’t scream until someone heard him, unfortunately not enough details have been made available at this time to determine his full situation.

It takes a special kind of scumbag to steal a 101-year-old patient’s credit card and that scumbag is Adrienne Stagner, 28, who was arrested on Thursday night and charged with 31 counts of identity theft after she stole the credit card of the woman she was suppose to be caring for and spent $4,000.

Stagner told police that she bought gas for her friends (how nice of her), clothing for herself and some illegal drugs.

Among her purchases were methamphetamines and marijuana which were purchased by taking cash out at ATM’s using the credit cards cash advance option.

The theft was discovered by the victims grandson who reported the thievery to police at 2pm with an arrest occurring at 8pm. By the time Stagner was arrested she had used the card 19 times for cash advances in a one month period.

As police were investigating the crime Stagner showed up at work and tried to cover up her crime, telling them the card was somewhere in the home, before finally taking the card out of her backpack and handing it to officers just four hours after taking out yet another cash advance.

The illegal drugs were discovered when police using reasonable cause searched her backpack.

I’m filing this one under dumb criminals since police had no right to search her backpack on the spot before she came clean and even if she wanted to come clean, doing it in front of officers while carrying illegal drugs was just plain stupid on her behalf.

Have you ever been so pissed about a drug deal, you called the cops to complain?

I swear when I was a kid this used to be a joke, “Officer, he stole my weed!” But thanks to the internet, we can find out this actually happens every so often. Most recently, a man in East Hartford, Connecticut delivered himself to police for a drug offense after observing his $40 bag of cocaine seemed a bit light. 35-year-old native of El Salvador Antonio Recinos originally was going to call 911 to report the alleged shorting of narcotics, but happened upon a police officer and made his complaint face to face.

Not surprisingly, the move landed him in the back of a cruiser and he didn’t even have time to enjoy his overpriced bag of coke:

Recinos, who displayed a small bag of cocaine, told the officer that he had been shorted by his dealer. While it is unclear what Recinos, who apparently had been drinking, expected the cop to do on his behalf, he likely did not expect to end up in handcuffs over his consumer complaint.

Recinos was busted for narcotics possession, and released on $5,000 bail.

World of Warcraft players- your addiction could land your ass in jail.

Via Mashable comes this tale of woe about one unlucky WoW player who found himself on the wrong side of the law- with warrants out for his arrest on charges of dealing in a schedule III controlled substance and dealing in a schedule IV controlled substance. The sherriff’s department in Howard County, Indiana learned the man, Alfred Hightower, had fled to Canada to evade charges. Unluckily for Hightower, one of the cops looking for him was also a total WoW geek:

“We received information that this guy was a regular player of an online game, which was referred to as ‘some warlock and witches’ game,” said Roberson. “None of that information was sound enough to pursue on its own, but putting everything we had together gave me enough evidence to send a subpoena to Blizzard Entertainment. I knew exactly what he was playing — World of Warcraft. I used to play it. It’s one of the largest online games in the world.”

Matt Roberson, the Sheriff’s Department deputy quoted above, was skeptical that Blizzard would help him nab the suspect:

“They don’t have to respond to us, and I was under the assumption that they wouldn’t,” said Roberson. “It had been three or four months since I had sent the subpoena. I just put it in the back of my mind and went on to do other things. Then I finally got a response from them. They sent me a package of information. They were very cooperative. It was nice that they were that willing to provide information.”

Roberson deduced Hightower’s location by getting a latitude and longitude from his IP address, and then used Google Earth to zero in on his suspect. Hightower was located in Ottawa and shipped to Minneapolis, where Howard County authorities have until the 5th to bring him up on charges.

A Florida man has been arrested after authorities say he concocted a tale about being beaten and shot at in hopes of scoring a ride to another bar.

Gregory J. Oras, 37, is being charged with misusing the emergency response system and battery of an officer following the incident. Police say Oras called dispatchers in Oldsmar, Florida three times early Tuesday morning, claiming to have a broken nose and to be bleeding from the ears, and that people were shooting at him. In actuality, police say, Oras was seeking a lift to another bar and lied about the beating and shooting.

Oras reportedly became belligerent, kicking a Pinellas County sheriff’s deputy in the knees, and officers used a Taser to stun him. He is being held on $5,150 bail.

Seriously, is FarmTown that important?

A Pennsylvania burglar is behind bars after signing onto Facebook mid-burgle from the victim’s computer. Stupid? Unnecessary? That’s not even the worst part. Jonathan Parker, 19, didn’t bother logging off when robbing the home of two rings valued at more than $3500, nevermind deleting the history or cookies or not using the stupid internet when he was burgling someone’s house.

On August 28th, the victim reported that her home had been broken into through a window, and obvious signs of a break-in were apparent. Before she even noticed the missing jewelry, she noticed that the thief had logged onto Facebook and not signed off. Police quickly learned that the victim and perp were connected through acquaintances, and the not-so-clever criminal had even hit up some of his friends to go thieving with him. They declined.

Parker now remains in custody, facing 1 to 1o years in jail for the ill-planned break-in.
