It is sad to say that the steroids era of baseball has made the MLB record book a total and complete joke. For example seven of the 14 best single season home run records are by players of the steroids era. Of those seven seasons four of them were performed by admitted or caught steroids user, while the other two were performed by Sammy Sosa who is highly suspected of being a steroids user.

Let us take a quick look at the best single season home runs records

1. Barry Bonds-73-2001
2. Mark McGwire- 70-1998
3. Sammy Sosa-66-1998
4. Mark McGwire-65-1999
5. Sammy Sosa-64-2001
6. Sammy Sosa-63-1999
7. Roger Maris-61-1961
8. Babe Ruth-60-1927
9. Babe Ruth-59-1921
10. Jimmie Fox (1932), Hank Greenberg (1938), Ryan Howard (2006), and Mark McGwire (1997)-58

For those of us with kids, is that a list you ant to show your children? For the old timers out there is that how you want Roger Maris to be remembered? Is that what this game is all about? No of course not, and since there is no other way to make these tainted home runs to go away Bud Selig needs to whip out the asterisk’s.

Messing with history is tough, these guys actually hit those home runs, and there is a skill involved in hitting a MLB fastball, a skill that steroids doesn’t help. For example I could take steroid and still strike out on the medium fastball setting at my local batting cages. However, the way these records are clustered together by years known to be full of steroid use. Therefore the record book should contain an asterisk that says *Used performance-enhancing drugs

Major League Baseball’s player union has one a key legal victory in the steroids fight. On Wednesday a Federal Appellate Court sided with the Union and ruled that Federal Agents were wrong to seize the results from the now infamous 2003 steroids test. In that test, which was suppose to be private and to help determine how bad the steroid problem is baseball really was, 104 players allegedly tested positive for performance enhancing drugs. Since then many of the names on that list have slowly leaked out.

With this ruling the Player’s Union is hoping to stem the tide of those leaks. At this point it does no one any good to continue to leak the names off that list that was just a test to determine the level of the problem. While it may be bad for me personally, as every time a player’s name is leaked I get to write about it, in the end this seems like the court made the right decision.

It really doesn’t matter now who tested positive for PED’s in 2003. I think most baseball fans are tired of this story, and generally assume anyone who put up big numbers in this era was using some form of PED’s. It is a sad reality, but leaking names from an anonymous list is just as distasteful.

This is the first step toward healingthe wounds of the steroids era, and hopefully this ends the talk of the 2003 list. Baseball fans now only care if a player tests positive now.

Barry Bonds the disgraced former base ball player has provided a “celebrity” endorsement for Christensen Arms who make high powered hunting rifles. Who would have thoight that Barry Bonds and Sarah Palin had that much in common.

Now I’m no vegetarian, card carrying member of PETA, but I am appalled by his whopping for joy, and posing with the dead buck.

He also provided a written endorsement

With this super wide whitetail closing in, the only thing I had to worry about was putting the crosshairs on the front shoulder, and the rifle would do the rest. One blast is all it took.

By closing in he means the buck was wandering in a field minding its own business. And I guess he would know all about how “one blast was all it took”.

If you must there is a video on the Christensen website where you can watch him kill Bambi a “monster white tail” deer in Canada, fast forward to the 7 minute mark unless you want to watch all the awkward macho talk about rifles and pumping blood etc.

I guess the roids would explain it- although why Christensen would want him to endorse their product is beyond me. In other news the perjury trial against Bonds continues despite a couple of the charges being dropped.
