Hollywood, CA (CNS) – Multi-platinum recording artist Jesse McCartney and Grammy Award-winning singer and actress Monica will be performing at a live concert on Tuesday, September 8 for a kick-off event for “Get Schooled” in Hollywood.

The “Get Schooled” national initiative was developed by Viacom and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to help engage students, families and community members in an effort to improve America’s public education system and encourage more young people to finish their education.

The concert featuring McCartney and Monica will wrap up a day of event and activities held on the Paramount Pictures lot that will include over 400 local public school students, parents, teachers and school administrators.

“My understanding and love for music began in a music class in elementary school and was nurtured over the many years of my academic career. Get Schooled is a resource that gets students and communities involved in the education program so students can continue to find their passions, as I did mine. It’s an honor to be participating in this event that continues to motivate students to discover what they love,” said Jesse McCartney.

The day will also include a conference hosted by Stephen Colbert that will include presentations by Bill Gates, Viacom president and CEO Philippe Dauman, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education Tony Miller, filmmaker Davis Guggenheim, author and political columnist Arianna Huffington, New York City Department of Education Chancellor Joel Klein and Los Angeles area high school athletic director Stephen Minix.

Admitting he “knows when he’s been bested,” Colbert says of Cooper, “he didn’t just scoop me… he spooned me. All night long.”

In the clip below, watch Colbert’s take on Anderson Cooper’s report on the whereabouts of Michael Jackson’s former chimp, Bubbles. He calls it Cooper’s biggest exclusive since his “2006 sit down with Saddam Hussein’s beloved pet, Khalid Sheik Mu-hamster.”

Stephen Colbert has shaved his head to show his support for U.S. troops in Iraq.

Colbert has declared a victory in Iraq and had his head shaved with the word ‘Iraq’ on the side. In front of about 300 U.S. troops gathered for the taping of the Colbert Report on Sunday, Colbert declared:

“By the power vested in me by basic cable, I officially declare we have won the Iraq war!”

Twitter co-founder Biz Stone sat down for an interview with Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert on “The Colbert Report” Thursday night. Aside from discussing the humor of his name (”I assume that ‘Biz’ in ‘Biz Stone’ does not stand for ‘business model,’” Colbert quips), Stone talks about Twitter’s plans to hold its own ground and eventually turn a profit.

Perhaps most notably, given today’s rumor-driven storm of buyout talk, Stone tells Colbert: “We’re going to become a strong, profitable, independent company.” He goes on to say that his team plans to “start experimenting” with revenue models this year. Diane Sawyer played clips of the special, including one clip with Jon Stewart singing, and surprisingly Stewart can actually hold a note.
