When local officials at a tax office in northern India allegedly attempted to bribe two farmers who wanted to obtain property tax records they were in for quite the surprise.

Not willing to pay the extortion fees pushed upon them the farmers instead filled two sacks with 40 lives snakes, including four deadly cobras which they then proceeded to set free inside the tax buildings offices.

According to one state official:

“Snakes started climbing up the tables and chairs,” and “There was total chaos. Hundreds of people gathered outside the room, some of them with sticks in their hands, shouting that the snakes should be killed.”

Thankfully no one was bitten or suffered injuries as the offices frenzy continued  until the snakes could be captured.

In the meantime police are still searching for the two farmers, one of which is a snake charmer.

Apparently people in other countries also don’t like their tax officials.

Here’s a quick note to anyone looking to buy a piece of real estate, if you’re asked to sign a document acknowledging that your home is infested with hundreds, perhaps even thousands of snakes, don’t believe the realtor when they tell you it’s just a myth. That’s what happened to the Sessions family when they purchased their $180,000 dream home just outside of Yellowstone National Park.

Shortly after moving into their home Ben Sessions says he killed up to 42 garter snakes each day, typically waking up before his family to do a “sweep of the house” to look for strays that made their way into the home.

It turns out the families dream house was located directly on an annual meeting ground for the snakes and they had managed to find their way into the home, onto the homes roof and all over the homes grounds, sometimes so many would move at one time that the grass actually looked like it was moving.

Ben quickly became worried when he heard his wife screaming from their laundry room and he found her on a shelf avoiding a snake.

“I was terrified she was going to miscarry.” he said.

One day after his wife gave birth the family fled the home, allowed the house to go into foreclosure and claimed bankruptcy. They only lived in the home for three months. [via]

People do stupid and dangerous things all the time and thankfully no-one is injured or killed during these moments of idiocy. A good example of this is when Angel Rolon ended up causing a multi-car crash because the snakes he had stuffed in his pocket got out and slithered over the gas and brake pedals of his SUV.

The 20-year-old’s vehicle was then seen swerving as he tried to catch the creatures.

His SUV crashed into some parked cars and overturned in a street in Hartford, Connecticut.

Hartford police sergeant Christene Mertes said Mr Rolon was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

She said officers later recovered the snakes from the car.

I have never understood the sanity of people who think that having a snake that can grow to the size of 20 feet or more is a brilliant idea. Especially considering that these reptiles can quite comfortably chow down on anything from a deer to a toddler without even a burp. That doesn’t stop the constant buying of non native reptiles, or other animal types, only to find that they are too much to handle. At which point they either get dumped down the nearest sewer drain or closest section of Florida’s Everglades.

Because of this stupidity it is believed that there are currently some 100,000 Burmese pythons living in the Everglades where that have now become the top dog of the food chain. It has gotten so bad that the Governor of Florida has announced a plan to hire expertly trained bounty hunters whose only job will be to hunt down the pythons.

The program, which Barreto said he expected the governor to sign off on Wednesday, would be the first of what could turn into a two-fanged assault on a serpent that routinely grows longer than a Hummer. Florida Sen. Bill Nelson on Tuesday also called for organizing a controlled hunt in the federal lands of Everglades National Park.

”There’s one way to do this: kill the snakes,” Nelson said in an e-mail.

While the FWC is still considering placing a bounty on the constrictors, the state’s initial program will be similar to its handling of wayward alligators.

The dangerous business of capturing a snake that crushes and swallows its prey whole will be left to professionals — perhaps 20 trappers at first who could be cleared to begin taking out pythons within a week.

”This is not the wild, wild West. These people will be licensed, trained and managed by us,” said Barreto, who has been pushing for a python eradication program for two years as the snakes began showing up in increasing numbers in the state-owned water conservation areas north of the national park’s Tamiami Trail boundary.

A Florida toddler was killed this morning when she was strangled by the family’s pet python.

The deadly accident occurred in Oxford, about 50 miles NW of Orlando, at around 9:30 am. Details surrounding the incident are scarce, but Lt. Steve Binegar of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident to the press. He refused to answer further questions regarding the tragic death of the two-year-old girl.

Although pythons are not native to Florida, they have increasingly been spotted in the wild in recent years. Burmese pythons are particularly popular, and oftentimes pet owners will release the snakes into areas such as the Everglades when they become too large to manage at home or lose their novelty. They are known to be an invasive species in Florida and have reproduced prolifically after their artificial introduction to the area.

Burmese pythons can weigh up to 150 lbs and measure more than 15 feet in length. The animals are known to use constriction as a means of catching and killing prey, including humans.
