Howard Stern announced on his show this morning that he has signed on to do an additional five years at Sirius XM radio, although the terms of his latest contract might not be as favorable as his original $500 million deal.

Stern didn’t go into cash money specifics about the deal on the air or on his website, only saying the terms of the renewed contract were “very fair.” Sirius XM’s CFO David Frear insinuated recently that high compensation packages like Stern’s would be up for re-negotiation soon, saying:

“At the time of the merger, we were in many long-term contracts… As they come up for renewal, we’ll have the opportunity to get more favorable economic terms there.”

Of the newly negotiated deal, Stern said:

“I have come to the conclusion that the real innovators, the real geniuses are the people here at Sirius,” he said. “I have signed a five-year contract to stay at Sirius.”

He also told listeners that he could say with “almost certainty” that he would not remain on the radio after his new contract expires.

Exmainer.com and U.S. satellite radio broadcaster Sirius XM have failed to condem American host of the “Young Turks” Ana Kasparian following her blatantly racist comments on the show.

Kasparian, when commenting on West Indies cricket fans accurately shown in a KFC commercial from Australia, claimed among other things that their behavior was “so unruly, so uncivilised, so rowdy, jumping up and down, and they can’t sit down.”

One well established definition of racism states that it is the “discrimination or prejudice based on race.” Kasparian, when commenting on a culture that wasn’t her own, describes West Indies supporters as being “uncivilised,” despite the footage simply showing the fans in the ad at a game of cricket having fun and supporting their team.

As shown in the video below, the actions of the West Indies fans shown in the ad were not only accurate, but are common place among the supporters of many different cricket teams across the world, with supporters of various races and nationalities.

Given that the West Indians shown in the ad were clearly acting in a manner that is regular and not out of the ordinary, Kasparian’s condemnation of their actions as being uncivilised can only be construed one way: it was clearly a racist statement as it was based on the race of the people shown.

Hence, we ask why Kasparian has not been condemned by her employers, including Examiner.com and Sirius XM radio. Indeed, why are her racist statements being broadcast on Sirius XM at all? Does Sirius XM support suggestions that West Indian fans at a cricket game are “uncivilised?”

A highlight package of the racism of Kasparian, and her fellow Young Turks as follows:

Liberty Media made the announcement today.

Liberty Media’s Sirius XM Investment

Liberty Media will initially provide a $280 million loan to Sirius XM. Nearly two-thirds of that cash will be used to pay off a debt which Sirius had due this week. The remaining $250 million will come in a second round intended to cover remaining debts and prevent a possible takeover by Dish Network.

Liberty Media will get 12.5 million shares of preferred Sirius XM stock in exchange for its investment, giving it a 40 percent ownership stake. Its president/CEO is also expected to join Sirius’s board of directors.

More About Liberty Media

It is described as owning “interests in a broad range of electronic retailing, media, communications, and entertainment businesses.” Those businesses include Ask.com owner IAC/InterActiveCorp as well as QVC, Backcounty.com, Bodybuilding.com, Expedia, and a host of other properties.

Satellite radio operator Sirius XM is considering filling for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The company, the result of a merger between previously rival operators Sirius and XM in July 2008, has $300 million in debt due next week.

The New York Times reports that Sirius XM has been working with Alvarez & Marsal and bankruptcy lawyer Mark Thompson of Simpson, Thatcher & Bartlett to help prepare a Chapter 11 filing.

The move will put pressure on Charles Ergen, who controls a satellite-television empire including the Dish Network Corporation and EchoStar to bid for the company as he holds a majority of the $300 million debt.
