As we reported earlier, at least two people have been killed at Virginia Tech, where 32 people were shot to death and 25 were wounded during a 2008 massacre.

The identities of the dead have not yet been confirmed, but it is known that one is a police officer shot and killed during a traffic stop. The second is a person who was shot in a parking lot. Virginia Tech released a brief statement shortly before 2PM:

“Shortly after 12 p.m. today, a Virginia Tech Police officer stopped a vehicle on campus during a routine traffic stop in the Coliseum parking lot near McComas Hall. During the traffic stop[,] the officer was shot and killed. There were witnesses to this shooting… Witnesses reported to police the shooter fled on foot heading toward the Cage, a parking lot near Duck Pond Drive. At that parking lot, a second person was found. That person is also deceased.”

Several law enforcement agencies have responded to assist. Virginia State police has been requested to take lead in the investigation… Status of the shooter is unknown. The campus community should continue to shelter in place and visitors should not come to campus.”

At 3PM, the university updated students and media, adding:

“There are no new substantiated reports of suspicious or criminial activity. Status of the shooter remains unknown.”

As the “status of the shooter” continues to remain unknown, area schools and organizations are canceling meetings and have begun dismissal procedures in a guarded manner in order to protect students. At 3:55, Montgomery County Schools released the following statement:

“Schools in Montgomery County have started students dismissal following all reasonable safety precautions. Middle and high schools will dismiss first, followed by elementary schools once the secondary bus runs are complete. For students who ride the bus, parents across all grade levels should expect transportation delays of 60-90 minutes later than their student’s usual bus arrival time. For those who wish to pick up their students, schools within the Town of Blacksburg dismiss once police presence has arrived to the school location. Parents at all other school locations may now begin to pick up their students in an orderly manner. Bus transportation will continue for all schools with a 60-90 minute delay expected.”

Hikers walking near Abalone Cove Shoreline Park in Rancho Palos Verdes on Friday night discovered the body of a man who had been shot to death.

According to Lt. Dave Dolson of the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau:

“Shortly before 10 p.m. last night some hikers in the area discovered the body and called Lomita Sheriff’s deputies to the scene.” while he added, “It appears a murder has taken place here.”

The 22-year-old victim had multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso.

According to NBC Los Angeles, police say the shooting occurred very close to the ocean:

“It looks like there’s some shrub brush, and maybe a hiking trial, and the ocean and water are about 100 yards away,” said Lt. Dolson.

No further information is being provided at this time, however information about the crime can be reported to Crime Stoppers at 800 222-8477.

A shooting on the packed Boardwalk in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn on Thursday evening has left one female dead and four other people injured.

The boardwalk was more crowded than normal after a heat wave led to school closings, sending people to the destination as 100 degree temperatures beat down on visitors.

The guman according to police opened first near Sixth Street at approximately 5:20 p.m., killing one female who was rushed to Coney Island Hospital but later died. Another man was listed in critical condition but is expected to make a recovery. Three other people were hit by bullets but are thankfully expected to make full recoveries.

Police have made no arrests in the shooting, however one person was being questioned shortly after the shootings occurred.

Police at this time are also unclear as to what caused the shooting or if the victims were intended targets or if the shooting was just another example of a random act of violence

Even if the shooter has not yet been caught, an apartment building next to the shooting has 32 security cameras which police will use to look for the shooters identity.

Giffords’ surgeon, Peter Rhee, was “a former military doctor who served in Afghanistan” and her neurosurgeon, Michael Lemole, “removed half of her skull to give the [brain] tissue room. The bone is being preserved at a cold temperature and can be reattached when the swelling subsides.”

As Kim wrote earlier, Congresswoman Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona was shot while she was holding a “Congress on the Corner” at a local Safeway. Thankfully, and contrary to early reports, Giffords has survived the shooting and is expected to fully recover.

As it seems with most outrageous acts like this the attacker, confirmed to be a 22-year-old man named Jared Lee Loughner, has left a trail on the Web with stops at YouTube where he had his own channel, and at Myspace, who has now removed his page.

A school board meeting in Panama City, Florida became nationally newsworthy yesterday when 56-year-old gunman Clay Duke confronted boardmembers after spray-painting a V For Vendetta reference on the wall.

Duke calmly confronted the board before pulling the gun and shooting at everyone on the panel. He missed all six people, before being wounded by a security guard and then shooting himself fatally. Duke was there to protest the firing of his wife.

The entire incident was caught on video, aired by CNN. The clip, below, does not depict Duke’s suicide.

A total of seven people were shot earlier today in Gainesville, Florida, two of whom have since died.

Five people were wounded in a series of shootings that began around 4pm, and police believe that the person responsible for the incidents is one of the two people who died. According to the Alachua County sheriff’s department, 24-year-old Clifford Miller Jr., believed to be the gunman, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at 2306 S.E. 46th Terrace in Gainesville. Gainesville Police Department Captain Ed Book confirmed to press that Miller is believed to have carried out the shootings alone, and that they don’t believe anyone is “running around” endangering Gainesville residents.

A few of those injured in the shootings were mobile, including a man who suffered from a broken upper arm but was “OK” and even a victim who was shot in the face:

Gainesville Fire Rescue Chief Richard Saulsberry said one of the victims, a man, was able to walk himself to Fire Station No. 1, at 427 South Main St., for treatment after being shot in the face. The victim was transported to Shands at UF.

Family members were gathering at Shands.

Police have described the shootings as “random.”

Two people died in what police say was a murder-suicide at a downtown Chicago Old Navy store.

Shoppers and employees streamed out of the store on North State Street in the city’s Loop district after police say a male gunman shot a female Old Navy employee before turning the gun on himself. The scene outside was one of panic and horror:

“He just came in and got her, shot her,” a shocked employee standing outside the store on State Street said.

“Oh my god, I just talked to her this morning. I just talked to her,” another employee wailed.

28-year-old Colin Taylor said the aftermath was unlike anything he’d ever seen:

“Just a wave of people came running across on a red light,” Taylor said. “A few were definitely in tears, very shaken up. That’s the quickest police response I’ve seen in my entire life. They seemed like they were swarming in three minutes.”

The names of the two people killed have not been released, but police say the two were believed to have dated and would only confirm the dead were “in their 20s.” The shooting occurred at just after 11 AM local time in the basement, an employees-only area of the store.

Charles Diez, an Asheville, North Carolina, firefighter, apparently got so upset with a man riding with his child on a bust road that Diez shot the man.

The shooting happened Sunday morning as the victim was riding with his wife and had his 3 year old son in a child seat attached to his bike. Diez pissed that the man was riding through the heavily travelled Tunnel Road pulled out a gun and opened fire, hitting the victim in his bicycle helmet.

They said the bullet penetrated the outer lining of the helmet but did not actually hit the victim’s head.

Police arrested Diez and charged him with attempted first degree murder.

His bond was set at $500,000.

The details are still sketchy but an unidentified man has fired at least one shot at the Apple Store in Clarendon, Arlington Virginia, just shortly after the store open this morning. Witness at the scene report hearing a loud bang coming from the back room which was followed by a woman’s screams. A thin-framed, black male believed to be in his twenties and wearing a fake beard was seen fleeing from the rear of the store.

ABC and FOX news are confirming the story and the woman was the victim of a botched robbery.

As the police arrived the man barricaded himself in his house and threatened to shoot himself, but after brief negotiations he surrendered to the police.

According to local French media the man is married and he has three adult children. His motive for shooting is still unknown.

At least 12 people are dead after a gunman opened fire inside an immigration center in Binghamton, New York.

The gunman blocked the rear entrance of the building with his car, before entering through the front door and immediately starting to fire. The victims include immigrants who were studying to become US citizens, and staff at the center.
At least three people were rushed to hospital with varying injuries.

Police had feared far worse, and at one stage believed that a hostage situation was taking place with over 40 people at risk. The gunman however is believed to have killed himself either before police arrived, or shortly thereafter.

The gunman has not been formally identified, but carried identification that indicated his name was Jiverly Voong of Johnston City, New York.

A nursing home shooting in North Carolina has left eight people dead according to authorities.

Robert Stewart starting shooting at 10am local time Sunday at the Pinelake Health and Rehab in the town of Carthage, 60 miles southwest of Raleigh, North Carolina. The victims included a 98-year-old man, four women and men in their 80s, two others in their 70s and a nurse.

Police say an officer and several other people were also wounded before Stewart was shot and apprehended. Stewart remains in custody and is facing eight counts of first degree murder.

The motivation for the attack is not known at this stage. The nursing home has 110 beds, including 20 for those with Alzheimer’s disease.

At least 10 people are believed to have been killed in a shooting massacre in Geneva and Samson, Alabama.

Among the dead are believed to be family members of the shooter, along with the child and wife of a deputy sheriff. The shooter is believed to be among those killed.

Reports from the scene said the man fired on a local Wal-mart, a neighboring Piggly Wiggly grocery store, and possibly passing motorists. Local officials are also believed to have called in the FBI to assist local police given the scale of the shooting spree.

Geneva and Samson are small towns near the Florida border.

I haven’t seen the inside of a movie theatre for a long time but even when I was there was nothing more irritating that the jerk off in front of you who felt the need to pontificate all the way through the movie. That said I think the idea of shooting someone for committing such a social crime is just a tad extreme. Unfortunately one James Joseph Cialella, a 29 year old movie goer in South Philly got more than a little pissed at his watching of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button kept being interrupted by a father and son sitting in front of him wouldn’t shut the hell up.

When even throwing popcorn at them produced no satisfactory results he got up pulled out a Kel-Tec .380 and shot the man in the arm. The warped part is that once he had shot the man he went back and sat down to watch the rest of the movie, which is where the police found him when they showed up at the scene. Cialella has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons violations.

Plaxico Burress, the New York Giants wideout accidentally shot himself in the leg at a nightclub Friday night. Burress spent the night at the hospital. Sadly he won’t be qualifying for a Darwin Award as his wound is not considered life-threatening. Plaxico now means dumb footballer in latin.

Burress had already been injured before he shot himself. His hamstring injury which would have prevented him from playing in this Sundays’ game against the Washington Redskins is now presumably much worse.

Videos and camera phone footage of Plaxico shooting himself are not yet available. Apparently a $35 million contract doesn’t stop you making an ass of yourself.

Fans of the New York team should be pissed. This is another black spot in what has not been a good year off the field for Burress. He has been suspended and fined several times this season for missing meetings and arguing with officials.

Burress has been insisting that he and his $35 million contract are not a distraction to the team. Yeah well how about shooting yourself in the leg? Think that qualifies as a distraction? Chump. The New York Giants should ask for their money back.

Two students were killed Sunday night in a shooting at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) with an unconfirmed third person dead also.

According to the UCA police, the shooting took place sometime around 10pm Sunday night near the Snow Fine Arts Center. There was one person who died on scene while another was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The UCA Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred on campus. At present there are four suspects. One suspect is in custody.

THE CAMPUS IS CLOSED. ALL HOUSING FACILITIES ARE RESTRICTED TO RESIDENTS ONLY.
