Weiner goes on to say that ‘it can be hot,’ and when asked if he’s turned on by other guys, says ‘it depends on the guy, but generally yes’.

A source close to Weiner also told RadarOnline that the former congressman is not gay, just very sexually open.

The revelations of Weiner sexually explicit texting with more than 6 women was one of the top political scandals of 2011 and led to Weiner’s resignation from Congress last June.  Since stepping down, Weiner and his wife Huma Abedin,have tried to stay away form the cameras. Huma was pregnant at the time of the scandal, and recently gave birth to baby boy Jordan Zane Weiner.

Nobles went into sordid detail in the book to describe the different explicit chats she and Weiner had, and about the things he told her he did at his congressional office also.

In addition to being in hot water with all the dirty talk, supposedly Weiner had talked at length with Nobles about his level of comfort with his in-laws who supposedly didn’t accept him because of his religion.  If they were upset then, I wonder how upset they are now?

Why won’t this scandal die?  Is it because Weiner is just too easy to go after?

If you’ve been following the “sexting” trend through various news network over the last 12 months it likely seems that just about every teen on the face of the planet is engaging in acts of personal phone pornography but a new study says that simply isn’t the case.

According to the study published on Monday in the journal Pediatrics one in 10 children from the ages of 10 to 17 engage in the sending of sexually explicit images (10%) and only 1 in 100 (1%) send images of themselves and others that would be considered in violation of child pornography laws.

Researchers conducting the study interviewed 1,560 children from across the United States and according to author Janis Wolak:

“It only takes one or two cases to make people think this is very prevalent behavior,” and “This has been reported as if it were something that everyone was doing, not just in the teen population, but in the young adult population. It’s really not the case.”

Janis’ work at the Crimes Against Children Research Center at the University of New Hampshire makes her an authority on the subject and the perfect person to show proof that the prevalence of sexting among underage pre-teen and teens is not as serious as researchers and news outlets in the past have led us to believe.

The research further reveals that 149 kids admitted to sending or receiving pornographic images in the last 12 months while just over 2 percent said the pictures were taken of their own bodies and 7.1 percent said they had received sexual images from someone else.

What may be most troubling about the trend is that 31 percent of those respondents who said they took sexual images said they did so while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The study does not say that sexting is not of concern, simple that media reports about the issue have been greatly exaggerated. I have to admit we’ve been guilty of rampant reporting on the issue at Inquisitr as can be witnessed here, here and here.

College students love to send each other racy text-messages and nude pics over their phones, according to a recent study 78% of students admit to “sext messaging” better known as “sexting” as part of their daily routines.

The study, which occurred among 200 students at the University of Rhode Island found that of the 78% of students who admitted to sexting, 56% sent nude or barely nude picture messages, while 73% of all respondents who admitted to sexting said they only did so with a romantically linked partner.

While it may be a “way of life” for many college students, they should be warned that 10% of recipients said they passed the messages and dirty pictures on to at least one friend without first getting permission from the original sending party.

According to the study’s author students are sexting because:

“At the age of most college students, people are filtering through relationships at a faster rate,” while adding, “People want to feel a sense of belonging so they are sharing more of themselves with people they are still getting to know.”

Some students interviewed were only 17 years old and admitted to sexting, even though it’s illegal to send dirty text messages under the age of 18 in the state.

In news that may be shocking to two or three parents nationwide, teenagers are not actually falling asleep straight after “going to bed.”

Studies indicate these teenagers may actually be retiring to their rooms to engage in some late-night textual healing, engaging in text messaging sessions that have gone on for as long as four hours. Attending physician at the JFK Medical Center sleep lab in Edison, New Jersey Dr. Peter Polos says that in the 40 students they sample-studied, kids sent an average of 33.5 texts or emails each night after bedtime, in time frames ranging from 10 minutes to the four hour figure.

Dr. Polos says it’s not the kids per se, but the devices that are enabling the sleep deficits:

”It reaffirms my suspicion that the availability of these media to children can or will have a significant impact on their quality and quantity of sleep,” Polos tells WebMD.

He also commented on the frequency and volume of media consumed and transmissions sent by kids these days:

The average number of texts sent per month including weekend nights after bedtime was 3,404 per person, Polos found. “That number reflects a portion of children who were excessively using the media.”

The older the student, the more time he or she was likely to spend texting and emailing after bedtime.

“Most of the 40 students reported either learning, behavioral, or cognitive issues,” Polos tells WebMD.

“This [emailing and texting] is more stimulatory than television, I think,” says Polos.

The study found that boys are more likely to stay awake surfing the internet or playing a game, whereas girls tend to engage in more social sleep distractions.

37-year-old Canandaigua Academy teacher Marla Gurecki-Haskins surrendered to police yesterday in the small Western New York town of Canandaigua on charges related to sexual conduct involving three male students.

Gurecki-Haskins, who has been teaching for fifteen years, pleaded not guilty to one felony count of disseminating indecent material to a minor, and three misdemeanor counts of official misconduct and endangering the welfare of a child. The teacher is on leave from Canandaigua Academy and among other charges, stands accused of performing oral sex on a student in a classroom during school hours.

Gurecki-Haskins is also accused of using cell phones for “sexting” with students and engaging other forms of “electronic communication” during the incidents. A local police representative encouraged parents to speak to children about racy “electronic communications.”

“Parents need to be very vigilant with e-mail communication, what websites their children are going to, and their phones. I don’t know how far-reaching this incident was. Hopefully no other students were affected, but certainly as a parent I would sit down with my child and have a candid conversation,” says Canandaigua Police Chief Jon Welch.

Police say they were unable to charge Gurecki-Haskins for rape or “serious sex crimes” because the age of consent in New York is 17.

It took a pair of magicians, but someone finally managed to make an iPhone app with porn.

Maria “SnakeBabe” Gara and Steve Sheraton, who are Las Vegas based magicians, managed to circumvent Apple porn rules via the Safari browser. Using locally cached web content, the Sex App Shop doesn’t even require web access after the initial content is stored to provide you with porn regardless of time or location. From their website:

“We wanted to create a store for all the iPhone users out there who have been looking for a secure, fast and legal way to view real adult content without jail-breaking or hacking their devices,” said Maria Gara, ‘The SnakeBabe’ and owner of Premier App Shop LLC.

“Our apps are delivered over the air instantly without requiring an iTunes transaction.”

At $99 for a yearly susbscription, the .99 individual apps might be more budget friendly for the on-the-go fapper. Discretion is also part of the service:

Credit card statements are billed as Premier App ShopTM, which is a fully-operational magic trick site, thus creating an innocuous decoy for snooping bosses or family members. The home screen icon can also be edited by the user to look like something inconspicuous. Additionally, there are no traces of adult content in the user’s browser, video player or photo viewer.

Apple has yet to comment on the innovation.

13-year-old Hope Witsell is one of a growing number of cell-phone equipped young teenagers who made a snap decision to send racy pictures to a crush via her cell phone.

But the recipient of Witsell’s “sexting” affections, in an outcome that isn’t uncommon, left his phone unattended- allowing a romantic rival of the girl to forward the images to other boys at Shields Middle and Lennard High Schools in Ruskin, Florida. School officials learned of the photo, which had gone viral, and suspended Witsell for the first week of eighth grade classes in August. When Witsell returned, she required a “security detail” of her girlfriends to shield her from sexual taunts and bullying.

Two weeks after Witsell returned and while she was being sexually harassed, a school counselor noticed marks on the young girl’s legs. Rather than actually doing something about the bullying, the counselor made Witsell sign “a ‘no-harm’ contract, in which Hope agreed to tell an adult if she felt inclined to hurt herself.” Apparently, signing a contract did not alleviate the girl’s suffering, because her parents found her hanging in her bedroom the following day. Hope Witsell was 13 at the time of her death.

While the case is the nation’s second known “sexting” related suicide, women have been driven to violent acts of self-harm due to sexual shame since time immemorial. Further ostracization by school officials (Witsell was banned from running for school offices) and failure to disclose the “no-harm contract” to Witsell’s parents seem to have been significant factors in the young woman’s death. School officials and Witsell’s parents appear to disagree on whether the events leading up to Hope’s suicide were correctly handled:

“If it’s felt that students are at risk for harming themselves, there is a followup with parents,” said Tracy Schatzberg, the psychological services supervisor for Hillsborough schools. “We would involve parents depending on the level of risk.”

Said Donna Witsell: “They dropped the ball big time.”

While cell phones are the medium of this particular moral panic, the fact remains that girls and young women have always faced this particular social stigma. Cases like that of Hope Witsell only serve to remind parents and school officials that the real issue is sexual harassment, not technology.

In the semi-annual CTIA Wireless Industry Survey there were a lot of interesting facts and figures but of them all it has to be the fact that some 740 billion text messages were sent in the first half of 2009 in the United States alone. This works out to 4.1 billion daily SMS messages winging their way around the US each and every day.

Of course this is bringing about the old “running out of spectrum” bugaboo from FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski who said at the CTIA wireless industry convention on Wednesday in San Diego:

“We are fast entering a world where mass-market mobile devices consume thousands of megabytes each month. So we must ask: what happens when every mobile user has an iPhone, a Palm Pre, a BlackBerry Tour, or whatever the next device is? What happens when we quadruple the number of subscribers with mobile broadband on their laptops or netbooks? The short answer: We will need a lot more spectrum The biggest threat to the future of mobile in America is the looming spectrum crisis.”

Despite moves in Vermont to decriminalize sexting among teens, Illinois has gone in the other direction and passed a law that specifically make passing on mobile pictures illegal.

House Bill 2537 makes it a criminal offense to sell or distribute a videotape or nude image of another person without written consent and with the intent to damage a person’s reputation. The bill also makes uploading such images to the Internet a violation of this act. The measure states that a violation of this act a Class A misdemeanor worth up to 364 days in prison and a fine of up to $2,500. Yeah, because what kids need on top of a child porn charge is another 12 months in jail.

Despite this being promoted as a bill to save teenagers from sexting, take a close look at the wording: it’s not a bill targeted at sexting teenagers, but everyone: “a videotape or nude image of another person.” Lets say Paris Hilton walks out of a Chicago nightclub drunk, and her top falls down while she’s on the street. The images you take of her would couldn’t be used elsewhere without her permission, and publishing them would damage her reputation. If you were at a frat party, and some drunk girls got naked and you took video on your phone: you can’t use them without written permission from the girls, and they most definitely would tarnish their reputation (so the written permission may be a moot point anyway.)

The original bill would have also made anyone distributing the image or video liable as well, for example five people down the chain you receive it, then forward it on, therefore your action is illegal as well, unless of course you traced the picture and got written permission. A small amount of sanity prevailed when the bill hit the Illinois Senate, who added in two sections “This prohibition applies only to the initial dissemination of the video recording, and shall not apply to any subsequent dissemination, storage, or viewing of that image.” They also tried to cover their bases by inserting a reference to free speech: “Any depiction of a nude image that would be protected as free speech under either the First Amendment to the United States Constitution or Article I, Section 4 of the Illinois Constitution.” The problem then becomes one of interpretation: is taking a picture of Paris Hilton naked and drunk protected by free speech, or is that frat party video protected?

The ACLU and other organizations are going to have a field day with this legislation. The application to all is heavy on fail, but the biggest fail is this continued push to criminalize children. If we concede that sexting is a problem (and many would argue that it’s a media beet up and not a serious problem) how is turning teenagers into criminals and sending them to jail going to solve the problem? Vermont understands that the big stick approach shouldn’t be applied, it’s just a shame that most other US States don’t yet.

Social Network Investigation

The girl, from New Jersey, posted about 30 “explicit nude” pictures of herself to the social network, media reports indicate. Investigators say she said she uploaded them so her boyfriend could see them.

Now, however, she could face as much as 17 years in jail and be required to register as a sex offender, if she is convicted of the crimes.

There has been a string of child pornography cases related to teens exchanging nude photos in recent months. Most of those, however, have involved “sexting” — sending and receiving the photos via cell phones. Legal experts tell the Associated Press this is the first case they’ve seen where photos from a social network are involved.

Megan Kanka Connection

The potential sex offender registration comes as a result of Megan’s Law. Interestingly, though, Maureen Kanka — the woman whose daughter, Megan Kanka, led to the law’s creation after she was raped and killed by a sex offender in 1994 — has spoken out against the recent trend of prosecuting teens over racy photos of themselves.

Kanka says the girl should receive some kind of counseling rather than criminal action, telling the AP that “the only person she exploited was herself.”

There is a growing group in the United States that is facing an increasing number of charges for creating and distributing pornography and contributing to child abuse but it isn’t who you think it is. As exampled by three cases going to trial in Pennsylvania this section of our society is our very own children. These type of charges are all being based around something that is getting the catchy buzzword of – sexting and it would appear that it is more of a common practice among young girls than we realize.

For those of you who might not know what sexting is here’s a quick little primer. Sexting is the act of taking a picture of yourself nude or semi-nude with your camera phone and then sending that picture to whoever you want. Normally this is suppose to be only between dating partners but as the case of the young girl in Cincinnati who hung herself after the picture she took of herself made it past her boyfriend and was spread around the school it can end up getting out of control.

Now I am pretty sure we all agree – at least those of us who are parents – that this isn’t exactly what we would like our little girls; or boys, to be doing but does this mean that they should be charged and prosecuted as child abusers and pornographers? An action that will end up with them having a felony conviction on their record for life and not just any felony but that of being a sexual offender.

Well this is what District Attorney George P. Skumanick in Pennsylvania wants to do to three girls who were caught sexting after their camera phones were confiscated by their school during an investigation by the school after boys at the school were caught with pictures of girls who had been sexting them.

At issue in the Tunkhannock case are two photos depicting the three girls. One photo of Marissa Miller and Grace Kelly shows them two years ago at age 13 lying side by side while one talks on the phone and the other makes a peace sign with her fingers, according to the ACLU complaint. The two are photographed from the waist up and are wearing white opaque bras. A second photo shows a girl referred to in the court document as "Jane Doe" photographed outside a shower with a towel wrapped around her waist. Her breasts are bared.

Last year, Tunkhannock school officials discovered that male students had been trading these and other photos on their phones. Officials confiscated the phones and turned them over to county prosecutors who began a criminal investigation.

Skumanick then threatened to charge the three girls with producing child porn unless their parents agree to place them on a six-month probation and send them to a five-week, 10-hour education program to discuss why what they did was wrong and what it means to be a girl in today’s society. The girls also must agree to subject themselves to drug testing.

Skumanick told an assembly of students that possessing inappropriate images of minors could be prosecuted under state child porn laws. Anyone convicted under the laws faces a possible seven year sentence and a felony conviction on their record. Under a state sex offender law, they must also register as a sex offender for 10 years and have their name and photo posted on the state’s sex offender website — the latter requirement will include juvenile offenders when the law is amended later this year.

Granted these type of actions might not be the smartest thing for girls to be doing but I find the threats and bullying of the District Attorney far more reprehensible than anything these kids have done. The fact is that the world our children are use to to isn’t the same one we are living in. For them there is nothing wrong in what they have done – their world has a different set of morality judgments being made, just as mine or yours were different than our parents.

Should the kids be spoken to about the danger of what they are doing – from our points of view; which is radically different than theirs – you betcha but that is the responsibility of the parents not something that some dickhead looking for re-election an a couple of months can make headlines out of. As far as I am concerned Skumanick has abused his position of power by literally blackmailing parents into forcing their children into state sanctioned behavior training.

According to the Threat Level post the ACLU has stepped in to defend the three girls and their parents as well as filing a lawsuit against the District Attorney

The ACLU of Pennsylvania is representing the girls and their parents. In its lawsuit –  filed in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania — the organization charges that the prosecutor violated the girls’ First Amendment rights. The lawsuit says the photos do not constitute child pornography under Pennsylvania’s criminal code since they depict no sexual activity and do not display the pubic area of the girls’ bodies.

"Skumanick’s threatened prosecution chills Plaintiff’s First Amendment right of expression, causing them concern about whether they may photograph their daughters, or whether the girls may allow themselves to be photographed, wearing a two-piece bathing suit," the ACLU wrote.

The lawsuit also claims the demand that the parents agree to place their girls in an education program violates the parents’ Fourteenth Amendment rights to direct the upbringing of their own children.

According to the ACLU filing, Skumanick told Miller’s parents that the photo of their daughter constituted child pornography because she and her friend were posed "provocatively." When lawyers for the parents asked for a copy of the photos that would be used to charge their children, Skumanick reportedly refused on grounds that he would be committing a crime by sharing child porn.

Personally I think the DA should hand in his resignation and let parents get back to being parents; or perhaps he should be far more diligent in sending actual pedophiles to jail instead of making political hay out of natural childhood curiosity and exploration.
