Elaine’s boss on Mr. Pitt has passed away. Ian Abercrombie, who cut candy bars with a knife and fork on Seinfeld, passed away earlier this week at the age of 77.

Abercrombie was most famous for his role as Mr. Pitt on Seinfeld but the actor stepped into plenty of roles during his 45-year career.

Abercrombie started his career in the 1960s and has appeared on shows like Columbo, The Quest, The Six Million Dollar Man, Battlestar Galactica, Happy Days, Threes Company, Who’s The Boss?, Murder She Wrote, Alf, Murphy Brown, Seinfeld, and most recently, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Wizards of Waverly Place.

He also had parts in movies like Rango, The Lost World: Jurrasic Park, and Army of Darkness.

But to many, Ian Abercrombie will always be remembered as Mr. Pitt from Seinfeld.

Larry David, co-producer of the hit TV comedy series, Seinfeld, has spent years dismissing the rumor that the cast would reunite, but now he’s saying that the sitcom’s original members will team up again.

Jerry Seinfeld (Jerry), Jason Alexander (George), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Elaine) and Michael Richards (Kramer) will be back together on the seventh season finale of Larry David’s ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’, which David created and stars in. The reunion of the Seinfeld cast is the first time they have appeared together on-screen since the series ended back in 1998. The Seinfeld cast members will appear in 5 shows separately during the season and will then all appear together in the finale.

It should be an interesting series of shows for Curb Your Enthusiasm. The setting will depict David making a Seinfeld reunion show and working with the cast while filming and producing. It will be a ‘show-within-a-show’ so to speak. David says that it’ll also give viewers an idea of what the cast members have been doing ovet the past 11 years and how they feel about doing a reunion.

In a fitting twist, Apple’s latest ads bring a Seinfeldian element of self-awareness to the campaign against Microsoft.

The new spots, released today, strike me as being quite akin to the “Seinfeld” show’s season four plot line in which Jerry and George create a show about nothing for NBC. In Apple’s case, the company has created a commercial about a commercial that was about their commercials. Still with me?

Maybe it’d be easier just to watch. The first spot directly takes on the cash spent in Microsoft’s Seinfeld-started $300 million campaign:

The second makes light of the lack of “Vista” references in the latest Windows ads:

The irony, of course, is that outside of the initial “I’m a Mac” line, both spots largely avoided any actual Mac references themselves. One also wonders how much money Apple is paying for its own advertising efforts, since it’s bringing the subject up.

Ah, the art of negative campaigning. You can turn off the political coverage, but you can’t escape it. Will the slamming tactic work for Apple, or will it deliver a negative response such as what we often see within the political arena? The commercials are comical, no doubt, but let’s see how much of an impact they actually make.

A high-ranking Microsoft ad exec is heading over to Amazon, according to internal e-mails obtained by the NY Post. We’re hoping that means Amazon might consider a Seinfeldesque campaign of its own. Hear our idea out…it just might be marketing gold.

First, the background: Lisa Utzschneider (try saying that three times fast) is jumping ship soon, the Post reports. She’ll be titled senior VP of national ad sales at Amazon.

So what kind of plans is the online retailer hatching here? The Post speculates the company may be working to “ramp up” its online ad department. It’s recently implemented new third-party ad options within its various Web properties, which include IMDB and Askville.com.

But here’s the thing: We say Amazon shouldn’t stop there. Right now, you don’t see a heck of a lot of ads for Amazon on the airwaves — certainly nothing compared to Microsoft’s Seinfeld campaign. This could be their big chance to expand, to make their mark in the marketing world. And we have the perfect plan.

Our pitch: Utzschneider gets Rob Schneider to do a series of spots with Jeff Bezos. We assume she’s got some kind of connection — I mean, she is the Utzschneider. That’s gotta have some sort of pull.

Just imagine it:

We smell a match made in heaven. And we expect a cut of the loot, Amazon. Don’t forget who gave you the idea.
