A primary school in England has decided to change its name from a school to “place for learning” becuase the term school was too institutional for their tastes. That’s right a school no longer wants to be called a school because that is too negative. Those kids are sure going to be getting a fine edjumacation.

The Head Teacher, Linda Kingdon was quoted as saying:

“We decided from an early stage we didn’t want to use the word ‘school’, this is Watercliffe Meadow, a place for learning. One reason was many of the parents of the children here had very negative connotations of school. There are no whistles or bells or locked doors. We wanted to de-institutionalise the place and bring the school closer to real life.”

It ain’t my real life, which is entirely all whistles, bells, alarms deadlines and locked doors.

We were unable to verify if the teachers were changing their titles to something softer and less traditional like, knowledge navigators, senior basket weaver, or even just Yoda.

The move was described as “ridiculous” and part of a “political correctness agenda” by the Campaign for Plain English, the organisation which opposes the use of gobbledygook in public life.

Marie Clair the spokeswoman for the Campaign for Plain English said that “We all know that they are going to be going to a school whatever you call it.”

Although obviously if it was a real plain english campaign, they would have said this idea was F&^%ed. In my mind this is the best argument for home schooling, yet. Thoughts?
