Sex and the City is still refusing to die, even though HBO cancelled it like a hundred years ago.

The show that chronicled the dating neuroses of four forty-somethings in a whitewashed version of New York nearly a decade ago, popularizing an avalanche of pop-psychological dating tenets you probably still can’t escape from if you’re not hitched, has already spawned one lame-ass movie. Now a trailer that depicts Carrie Bradshaw and her posse getting away from their boring rich husbands and kids with a vacation to Abu Dhabi where Carrie’s former flame Aiden just happens to be lurking has hit the web, threatening to once again embed itself in pop-culture like it’s relevant.

The trailer, below, reveals that the one-dimensional characters haven’t gotten any more relatable since they’ve jumped to the big screen. Charlotte is still a stuck up prude who manages to live in New York but continually be shocked by sex or anything ever getting dirty, Miranda is chronically naggy and unpleasant, Samantha keeps speaking in puns and innuendo that a seven year old could have written and Carrie is still incredibly irritating and awkward looking.

Are you still interested in the SATC story or should they shut up and make a Sopranos movie already?

I think that Vivienne Westwood went to go see the wrong movie, since she thought Sex and the City was about “cutting-edge fashion” and then found out there was “nothing remotely memorable or interesting about what [she] saw.” I wonder what Sarah Jessica Parker thought about that, considering that she had gushed about Carrie’s 81 outfits in the film and said that the film “certainly doesn’t disappoint in fashion.”

I am a little surprised about Vivienne’s comments, since her $25,000 wedding dress (worn by Carrie in the film) sold to private buyers and she got lots and lots of publicity. I have a feeling that someone’s not going to be included in a possible sequel at this rate. Moreover, was SATC really that bad? If you hadn’t seen the show and weren’t one of the ones who couldntwaitcouldntwait for the continuation, probably.

Oooh, I feel like there are some serious debates going on after ABC’s report on a woman who says that Sex and the City basically ruined her life. “Lisa,” who is now 22, opened up about sneaking into bar to drink (you guessed it) cosmos and sleeping with a different guy every day. When she had a boyfriend. When she was 14. Lisa admitted that:

“When you’re that age you try to emulate people on TV. Carrie smoked, so I smoked, Samantha looked at hooking up with random people as not a big deal, so that’s what I did too. It wasn’t ‘Sex and the City’s’ fault. I love the show, but I think it made it a little easier to justify my behavior.”

Lisa is now a Mormon and– this is my favorite part– her husband won’t let her watch the show anymore. I have a hunch: this woman was suggestible, is suggestible, and probably always will be. Either that, or SATC execs are spinning the PR/rumor mill in a really weird way.

Regardless, I take it she won’t be in line when the film opens in a week, then?

Sarah Jessica Parker has been talking. . . and talking. . . and talking about SATC, which is premiering tomorrow. For everyone who will be dragged to theatres at the end of the month by their significant other, gaggle of gal pals or flamboyantly single best friend, take heart.

Sarah Jessica Parker recently opened up in an interview in Parade, saying that Sex and the City might not be the fluff parade we’re all expecting:

Carrie and Charlotte and Miranda and Samantha aren’t young anymore. Their lives are much less frivolous. They can’t cope with their problems by putting on their sweats and staying up all night and ordering in food and gossiping about the men in their lives. There is less self-absorption but perhaps a little more self-awareness.

OKay, she did say a “little.” But there’s still hope! I’m personally thinking about boycotting the whole thing just because they are so cheating on New York. The grand premiere is in London. Sarah Jessica’s only steady flame, The City, has been jilted, and I’m not so sure I can forgive that.
