April 6th is an important day for hardcore Xbox 360 users, today marks official support for USB Mass Storage support, a new offering that can handle up to 16GB sticks that are specially formatted for Xbox 360 use.

Users can plug in 32GB sticks, however only the first 16GB will be recognized by the gaming console, while the remaining 16GB can be used in the users computer just like their regular USB sticks. The system also allows two sticks to be plugged in at one time, making swapping of information among users a simple process.

Currently any stick will work, however an official Microsoft branded series will be arriving next month for $70 per 16GB stick. For that price you’ll at least get SanDisk quality as they will be handling the manufacturing process for Microsoft.

The Sandisk iNAND 64GB chip debuted today and the new memory marks Sandisk’s first 64GB single chip to hit the Smartphone market.

With the larger amount of memory space comes a single drive boot, operating system and storage functions, while lower power consumption based on a single chip design is also showing promise for Smartphones, devices that rely on packing in a whole lot of memory in a very tight space.

While an exact release date has yet to be revealed, we do know that they rely on the Sandisk 3-bit-per cell technology, a piece of tech already used on many systems and which goes against last years debut of the 4-bit per cell technology.

According to Electronista:

The new drives will have the same physical interface currently used in smartphone design, which should speed deployment. Sandisk will produce the new chips in capacities ranging from 4GB to 64GB.

Take that iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. Then again Apple will probably buy up all this memory when available, leaving everyone else scrambling to find new flash memory.

SanDisk killed TakeTV and its related content portal Fanfare May 15 according to NewTeeVee, and no one noticed.

For the 99.99999999999% of people who have never heard of Fanfare and TakeTV, the Fanfare portal allowed users to download content including television shows and films onto their personal computers for transfer onto the TakeTV device, that was then be manually taken from the PC to a special docking device attached to a TV for viewing.

I first wrote about TakeTV in October 2007 where I held back in saying that “SanDisk has a rather liberal view of the word simplify” and “in a networked world it’s more than a little bit bizarre that a product such as this requires manual transportation from A to B.” What I really wanted to say is that this is perhaps one of the stupidest things I had seen in 2007. In 1997 this would have been amazing, but in an age of networked devices such as AppleTV, why would users want to buy a device that involved having to manually take what was essentially a thumb drive to a special device connected to their TV?

TakeTV joins the Dodo’s as another victim of ubiquitous internet and network enabled devices.
