Ever since So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With The Stars became ratings darlings we’ve had to suffer through various dance movies with very little plot and the same premise repeated over and over again and now we are apparently going to suffer through a dance movie we’ve already seen once with Dirty Dancing set for a remake.

According to reports the movies original choreographer Kenny Ortega will remake the movie. Ortega has had a string of good luck in the last few years including his work with High School Musical and Michael Jackson’s This Is It.

In a statement Ortega said of the movie:

“Patrick Swayze set the bar for men dancing in the movies as Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire did before him,” while adding, “I believe everywhere you look there is evidence that the talent is out there and I can’t wait to begin the process of discovering the next breakout triple-threats.”

Ortega surely hopes to repeat some of the original movies successes, the 1987 movie cost just $6 million to make and earned more than $215 million.

Along with the remake, stage versions of the popular movie have been produced around the world.

When asked what she thought of remaking the movie, the original films star Jennifer Grey told E!:

“I’m so excited about this news, and I think there’s nobody better to do this than my beloved Kenny Ortega, who is as responsible as anyone for the success of the first one,” while adding, “I can’t wait to see what he’s going to do with it.”

Are you ready for a Dirty Dancing remake?

From mildly concerning 3DS news … to LOVELY 3DS news: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is releasing June 19th in North America!

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is routinely proclaimed to be the Greatest Game of all Time™, and while I’d struggle to echo that (for me, it’s not even the best Zelda), it is one freaking tremendous title that all gamers should experience at least once.

Sources close to Joystiq are claiming that a high-definition remake of Halo: Combat Evolved from the Xbox 1 is being worked on, and that the new old Halo will see a release on the Xbox 360 this holiday season. Currently, the launch date is pegged as November 15th, exactly ten years after the first ever Halo game released.

By the sounds of it, it’s not just a quick sharpen-the-edges job, either. 3D TV support, 1080p visuals, and brand new art assets are all set to appear in the game, with control configurations from more recent Halo games also included. Now original developer Bungie has flown Microsoft’s nest, Joystiq’s mole reports that Saber Interactive, a New Jersey-based studio who put together the so-so TimeShift, will take charge of the project.

Multiplayer details are yet to be confirmed, though the rumor mill says there will be online co-op.

Though I’ve marked this as a rumor, I think it’s safe to say this is happening. I mean, who can’t see Microsoft milking Halo‘s tenth birthday? More power to them, I say – the original game remains the pinnacle of the franchise for me.

If Joystiq’s sources are correct, that also means Microsoft previously LIED TO US, shattering my complete 100% trust in faceless, profit-driven, multi-national conglomerations. It’s a sad day.

Giving old games a HD makeover has become a popular tactic on the PlayStation 3.

I’d complain about the ruthless repackaging of titles we’ve already played, except (a) face it, slicker graphics really do make a difference and (b) the choices for these facelifts have been excellent: God of War, Sly Cooper, Prince of Persia, Ico, and Shadow of the Colossus all deserved an upgrade.

Next, according to sources connected to CVG, are the first three Metal Gear Solid games. The site is reporting that the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine confirms the new HD Metal Gears, but stops short of telling us more.

I’m guessing that the “first three” games are the PSone original from 1998, PS2 sequel Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty from 2002, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater from 2004.

While the series has a tendency to disappear up its own arse with cut-scenes that last several months at a time, there’s no denying that they’re brilliantly cinematic, stylish, and mostly fun. I still prefer the grainy-as-hell PSone original, so to see that in high-def will be a treat. So long as they don’t pull this Metal-Gear-Solid-is-Die-Hard-4 bullshit again.

Over the past couple of years, Sony’s given a few PS2 classics a high-definition makeover and released these beautified remakes on the PlayStation 3. I used to think that was a cheap tactic, until Sony announced ICO and Shadow of the Colossus would get the same treatment, at which point I made this kind of sound: GJQPLMWYATDFUIG34FJF2HDUF.

So hi-def remakes, in my fickle mind at least, are now Officially Awesome. The sad news? Microsoft won’t be following suit. In an interview with IGN, Microsoft Game Studios Corporate VP Phil Spencer ruled out releasing graphically upgraded versions of Xbox 1 games on the Xbox 360:

“I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad idea. I’m going to think about it from the customer’s perspective, and are we really delivering something of value to the customer at a price that they want? We obviously have a lot of new things going on, so the thought of re-doing a bunch of things is probably difficult to just weave into the overall portfolio. If you can provide real value to the customer, there could be possibilities for that, but I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about it.”

That means we won’t be getting high-definition edition of Xbox 1 classics such as Ninja Gaiden Black, Jet Set Radio Future, Panzer Dragoon Orta, and, of course, the legendary first Halo game (which is still the best title in the series YES I WENT THERE).

And that, dear reader, sucks.

After much rampant speculation, it looks like ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, two stone-cold classic PlayStation 2 games, will be getting a high-definition makeover and for a release on PlayStation 3. In a word: YESSSJKGHJKGJGFJ.

In June, Sony heavily hinted it was ready to bundle these two gems in a hi-def package for the PS3. Over the weekend a listing appeared on Walmart’s site for “ICO / Shadow of the Colossus“, and a “source” has since informed Eurogamer that the title will release in April, for around $40 / £25. Basically, this is totally happening.

Why should this be exciting?

Well firstly, both games are flippin’ great – so great they BOTH featured in my top 10 PS2 games of all time. ICO has players trying to escape a huge, maze-like castle with a young girl in hand and, nine years on, virtually no other game can match it for atmosphere; it drips with the stuff. Shadow of the Colossus, meanwhile, has you fighting monsters the size of skyscrapers, scaling their hairy hides and stabbing them in strategic weak spots. “Epic” doesn’t even begin to cover it. Check it out:

See? EPIC. Secondly, even though it was a remarkable achievement on the PS2, Shadow of the Colossus‘s frame-rate did always look like a tad jittery. With the added grunt of the PS3, you’ll be fighting six hundred meter flying serpents (seriously) at 60 frames per second.

Sony has revealed that more high-definition versions of classic PS2 games are on the way for PlayStation 3. Last year, the company released God of War Collection, containing the first two God of War games with fancypants HD graphics.

This remake sold well, and at E3 2010 Sony announced The Sly Collection for PS3, including all three Sly Cooper PS2 titles in high resolution; it even comes with 3D, Move, and trophy support. And that won’t be the end of it!

“Santa Monica Studios had the brilliant idea to upgrade and improve God of War for PS3 with the God of War Collection that we released last year,” said Sony big cheese Shuhei Yoshida to IGN. “There were a lot of positive reactions from consumers in doing that, and now we get a lot of suggestions for types of packs they’d like to see.”

“So we are looking to continue to do these HD conversions,” he added. And why not? These are, after all, easy money for Sony.

Meanwhile, those gamers holding out for a PS3 remake of the epic Shadow of the Colossus (above) and its equally brilliant predecessor Ico may not have to wait much longer. VG247 spotted a listing for Team ICO Collection on Amazon France. Hopefully that’s on the money, because seeing Shadow of the Colossus with a steady frame-rate will be worth the admission alone.

The Nintendo 3DS, as this will attest, is pretty bloody lovely. But if you’re not sold on Nintendo’s fully 3D handheld, how about the chance to play a 3D remake of the greatest game ever made?

I know declaring anything the Greatest X Ever is dodgy territory. However, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which originally came out on the Nintendo 64 in 1998, is the game that appears most often at the top whenever greatest game lists or polls materialize. I personally think there are at least two better titles in the Zelda franchise alone, but … look, it’s a great game, regardless.

And now, it’ll be a great game in full 3D.

This revamped Ocarina of Time was on display at E3, at a behind-closed-doors Nintendo roundtable featuring company legend Shigeru Miyamoto. A short gameplay video was looping on a row of 3DS demo pods, showing hero Link riding his horse, Epona, through fields and around a castle.

After further questioning, Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma confessed to Joystiq that Ocarina of Time in 3D is for real. So there we go: the best game ever (allegedly) just got an extra dimension. Rawk.

T.J. Hooker was a Aaron Spelling series starting William Shatner that have a five year television run from 1982. Other starts on the show included Adrian Zmed, Heather Locklear, Richard Herd and James Darren.

Given the success of Star Trek (which also starred William Shatner) maybe it might turn out ok…or maybe not. Here’s betting it’s as bad as the Starsky and Hutch remake.

1981′s comedy horror An American Werewolf in London will be the latest 80′s movie to be remade.

According to Bloody-Disgusting.com who broke the story, writer/director John Landis has sold the remake rights to Dimension Films England. Pre-production hasn’t begun but will likely commence later this year, and Landis is believed to have been hired as executive producer.

The original movie starred David Naughton, Griffin Dunne, and Jenny Agutter, and told the story of an American in England who is bitten by a werewolf then eventually turns into one. Made for $10 million, the movie grossed $30 million and became a cult classic. A sequel, an American Werewolf in Paris was made in 1997, although featured none of the original cast.

The remake will allegedly update the movie for a contemporary audience, which usually means 1: teen starlets 2: iPods 3: lots of special effects. Also there will be a reasonable expectation that it will end up shite, but we’ll soon see.

Warner Bros has started pre-production on a remake of the 1985 movie Teen Wolf.

The original Teen Wolf starred Michael J. Fox as Scott Howard, a high school student who discovers that his family has an unusual pedigree when he finds himself transforming into a werewolf.

According to Moviehole.net, the studio has not signed on a director yet, and casting won’t begin until a script is finalized. The site also speculates that Zac Efron may be approached for the lead role

I’d say the remake comes on the heals of X movie or Y movie, but there have been so many remakes planned or produced in the last few years that I can’t honestly tell you which was the last one. Yet another sure sign that Hollywood is completely bereft of new ideas.

They’ve run out of 80s movies to remake, so they’ve switched to the 90s, or so it would seem with news that the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi hit Total Recall is to be remade.

Columbia Pictures is reported to be “final negotiations” with producer Neal H Moritz to develop a “contemporary version” of the movie.

According to The Register, Moritz, whose previous credits include I Am Legend and Prison Break, expressed the hope that “advancements in technology and state-of-the-art visual effects can help tell the Recall story in a fresh way”.

The original movie was based on the Philip K Dick story We Can Remember It for You Wholesale.

No word yet on who will star in the Total Recall remake.

The remakes are nearly in the 1990′s now: John Carpenter’s 1988 film They Live is to be remade by Universal and Strike Entertainment.

Marc Abraham and Eric Newman will produce, while Shep Gordon and Carpenter will serve as executive producers.

If you don’t remember the film, it’s memorable for a couple of things: an epic 5 1/2 minute long fight scene, and a line about Bubblegum: “I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass … and I’m all out of bubblegum.” The plot is part sci-fi, part satire with the main character discovering aliens living among us.

Here’s a short taste of the original:
