A new study finds that stupidity is the one constant factor behind racism. The report from Brock University in Ontario also said that people with low intelligence tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies.

Gordon Hodson, the lead researcher, said that children with low intelligence demonstrated the same prejudiced attitudes as low intelligence adults. This causes a vicious cycle where hatred literally breeds hatred.

Hodson said that his research is attempting to find out why people are racist. Hodson said:

“Prejudice is extremely complex and multifaceted, making it critical that any factors contributing to bias are uncovered and understood.”

The study, of course, will cause some controversy. Brian Nosek, a social and cognitive psychologist at the University of Virginia, told Live Science:

“They’ve pulled off the trifecta of controversial topics. When one selects intelligence, political ideology and racism and looks at any of the relationships between those three variables, it’s bound to upset somebody.”

Nosek says that several studies have connected right-wing ideals with racism, but why the relationship exists is still a bit of a mystery. Hodson believes that the question of intelligence could connect all three together.

Hodson did say, however, that his study does not conclude that all conservatives are ignorant racists. Hodson said:

“There are multiple examples of very bright conservatives and not-so-bright liberals, and many examples of very principled conservatives and very intolerant liberals.”

According to the study, people with low IQs may be drawn toward conservative beliefs because they offer structure. Hodson said that people who have a hard time understanding the the complexities of the world find comfort in a simple believe system. Hodson said:

“Socially conservative ideologies tend to offer structure and order. Unfortunately, many of these features can also contribute to prejudice.”

At least 1,489 New York City Police Officers were trained to fight crime in America’s largest city with the aid of an anti-Muslim film.

The training video, titled The Third Jihad was funded by a nonprofit group and features Muslim terrorists shooting Christians and then portrayed an Islamic flag flying outside the White House.

As the video carries on the narrator states that Islam’s “true agenda” for America is to ”infiltrate and dominate” the country.

Reports of The Third Jihad actually began surfacing in 2011 at which time a top police officials said only a few NYPD officers had screened the video however a Freedom of Information Act request showed that possibly more than 1,500 officers have since been trained with assistance from the anti-Muslim video.

As the videos name suggests we are living in the “third Jihad” which followed the first that occurred after Muhammad’s time and a second that occurred in the Middle Ages.

In fending off comments about mainstream Muslims the narrator states:

“Americans are being told that many of the mainstream Muslim groups are also moderate” and ”When in fact if you look a little closer, you’ll see a very different reality. One of their primary tactics is deception.”

Shockingly the narrator is himself a Muslim.

The film has been shown to officers for up to a year and has included patrol officers, detectives, lieutenants and sergeants.

News of the racist video tape couldn’t come at a worst time for the NYPD who were recently caught receiving assistance from the CIA in order to spy on Muslims. The FBI has also recently been shown to use anti-Muslim training videos as part of their trainee materials.

“If Frederick got two beatings per day, how many beatings did he get in 1 week?” Is the answer 14? Or “are you kidding me Beaver Ridge Elementary School in Norcross, Georgia with this slavery homework assignment? My kid is not answering that question.”

A school in Georgia gave its elementary school students a slavery homework assignment that asked children to solve different word problems based around slavery. One question asked:  “Each tree had 56 oranges. If 8 slaves pick them equally, then how much would each slave pick?”

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that the principal at the school will personally work with teachers to come up with more appropriate lessons. But parents at the Georgia school, where a majority of the students are minorities, are demanding an apology.

Christopher Braxton, a parent, said:

“It kind of blew me away. I was furious. … Something like this shouldn’t be embedded into a kid of the third, fourth, fifth, any grade.”

According to the AJC, the last accountability report for Beaver Ridge says that there are 1200 students at the school. 62% are hispanic,  24% are black, and 5% are white.

Jennifer Falk, a community activist, said:

“I think the teachers should be reprimanded for using that poor judgment, and an apology should be made. But the bigger question is how could something like this happen?”

The slavery homework assignment should have been reviewed by the district before it was distributed to students, but according to district spokeswoman Sloan Roach, that didn’t happen in this case.

The Beaver Ridge Elementary School isn’t the only organization getting in trouble for racism lately. A Papa John’s customer recently received a receipt with a racial slur printed on it. Papa John’s fired the employee who issued the receipt and offered a public apology. Slavery Homework Assignment Teaches Racism, Not Math is a post from: The Inquisitr

On one hand, Newt Gingrich’s bubble of privilege and lack of knowledge about the true demographics of social assistance programs like food stamps feels horrific to watch, a stark reminder of harmful racist attitudes that remain institutionalized in the mainstream Republican party.

On the other, you kind of almost hope lots of swing voters will realize this is the true face of much of the GOP’s platform, that inequality and lack of opportunity is not only tolerated but favored by Gingrich, Romney, Santorum and their ilk. But it doesn’t make it easier to listen to their baldly offensive rhetoric, most recently when Gingrich told a cheering crowd that black people should demand “paychecks instead of food stamps.”

As if the statement, clearly indicative of how Gingrich sees the black voters of America, wasn’t enough, he backed it up with an offer to meet with the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) to discuss the matter- a suggestion that’s so offensive, one is almost perplexed at where to start critiquing it. But one brave New Hampshire voter, 59-year-old Yvan Lamothe, took Gingrich to task on the comments at a recent town hall. Lamothe asked:

“My point is… you mentioned that black people should be able to earn a paycheck, not be on welfare, implying that black people in general are on welfare. And I really took exception to that because it demeans my accomplishments, my hard work, because I have worked all my life. I have never been on welfare.”

Lamothe, who has earned a master’s degree, continued:

“You know about history. You know that back in the 1930s, Hitler started talking in Germany about a Jewish problem. My question to you is, do you think that blacks represent an American problem, and if you don’t think that, will you stop using blacks in general as a stepping stone or a punching bag?”

Gingrich fell back on the “taken out of context” dodge, claiming that his words had not been accurately given background, making them sound more racist than they actually are. Gingrich stammered:

“What I said was, there’s a real problem in America because you have a president who’s put more people on food stamps- people, I didn’t say any ethnic group, people- than any other president in history… I said I would be willing to go to the NAACP annual convention- which most Republicans are not willing to do- and I’d be willing to talk about the importance of food stamps versus paychecks.”

According to some of the most recent Census data, as much as 85% of welfare and similar services are claimed by white people- with an assortment of other minority groups making up the remaining less than 15%. At least he didn’t go full Santorum and say he wants to make blah people’s lives better by giving them jobs and not food stamps.

England and Chelsea soccer captain John Terry is to face criminal charges over allegations that he racially abused an opposition player on the pitch. The news marks the first time in the 150+ year history of English soccer that a player will be prosecuted over words uttered on the field of play.

Terry is accused of abusing Anton Ferdinand of Queens Park Rangers. A video (embedded below, no sound) shows the alleged incident taking place. In the brief footage, Terry is seen shouting in Ferdinand’s direction. Terry has since admitted yelling the words, “F***ing black c***.”

However, the accused says he was merely repeating an insult that had been thrown at him (somebody called the white John Terry black? Er …), and that his words have been taken out of context. The defender insists he’ll combat the charges against him. In a statement to the press he said:

“I have never aimed a racist remark at anyone and count people from all races and creeds among my closest friends. I will fight tooth and nail to prove my innocence.”

The potential maximum penalty of a $4,000 fine is small for a man who earns over $100,000 a week, but if Terry is found guilty he will almost certainly be stripped of the England captaincy, and may well be dropped from the England squad for good. His future at his club, Chelsea, would probably be safe, but I’d imagine opposition fans will not be so charitable.

Examples of racism are still relatively uncommon in English soccer, where governing bodies have clamped down on discrimination; certainly, things have moved on from the 1980s, when black players would routinely have bananas thrown at them. However, the  issue has reared its head again recently, after Liverpool striker Luis Suarez received an eight-match ban and $60,000 fine from the English FA for racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra.

A group of hand-made racist signs were discovered this week around the campus of the State University of New York, leading to outrage from students and a police investigation.

In the signs acts such as “lynching” were promoted while a water fountain had a “colored only” sign posted above it on the universities New Paltz campus.

Some students told the Times Herald-Record that they believed the signs were in response to Black Solidarity Day which occurred in early November.

Responding quickly to the signs New Paltz president William Richards sent out the following email:

“We condemn such acts as contrary to our community values, hopes, and aspirations.” Richard goes on to write, “While we cannot know the motivations of the person responsible for these acts, having them splinter our community may well feed into their goals. We must not allow that to happen.”

Police officials say they have several strong leads although they have not arrested anyone in connection with the signs at this time.

James Rollins Sr., president of the Middletown chapter of the NAACP says he believes the signs were meant to intimidate the only two black maintenance workers on the campus:

“A noose being hung in the presence of an African-American person is the same as a swastika being placed in the presence of a Jewish person.”

Republican blacks are better than Democrat blacks. In the mind of Ann Coulter, that’s a fact. Coulter made the “our blacks are better than their blacks” statement earlier this week on Fox News, and she stood by the claim last night while talking to Joy Behar.

Coulter said on Fox News:

“Our blacks are so much better than their blacks… To become a black Republican, you don’t just roll into it. You’re not going with the flow. You have fought against probably your family members, probably your neighbors, you have thought everything out and that’s why we have very impressive blacks in our party.”

According to the NY Daily News, Coulter points to Herman Cain, Michael Steele, and Allen West as examples of impressive black Republicans.

HLN’s Joy Behard asked Coulter if she believed ”all the African Americans who are Democrats are stupid?”

Coulter said:

“No. I’m saying Google Maxine Waters, Cynthia McKinney, John Conyers, and then Google Allen West, Michael Steele or Herman Cain. … Ours are more impressive. There’s no question about it.”

Coulter also claims that people are only racist against conservative African-Americans and not liberals. Coulter said:

“The only racism you hear in America is against conservative blacks.”

Coulter isn’t the only one pulling out the race card. Yesterday, Donald Trump accused Jon Stewart of making racist remarks against Herman Cain.

But Coulter’s claim that “the only racism you hear in America is against conservative blacks” doesn’t really hold up. I seem to remember seeing a sign somewhere before…

Sean Penn, Morgan Freeman, Alan Cummings, Janeane Garofalo, and several other liberal celebrities have condemned the tea party for being a racist organization.

Freeman said:

“Their stated policy, publicly stated, is to do whatever it takes to see to it that Obama only serves one term. What’s that mean? What underlines that? ‘Screw the country. We’re going to whatever we can to get this black man outta here.’”

You might not agree with Freeman or his like-minded celebrities, but saying that racism is only pointed in one direction seems a little short-sighted.

McDonald’s has been the victim of misplaced Twitter rage, thanks to an image that went viral Sunday on the microblogging service.

The image above was rapidly tweeted and retweeted with the hashtag #seriouslymcdonalds, apparently by a bunch of people who are not only brand spanking new to the internet, but unaware of 4Chan and also ignorant of laws preventing people to implement seriously racist policies and then post signs advertising them in the country’s most prominent fast food chain. McDonald’s had to have their social media director tweet on a Sunday about the hoax in an attempt to set the record straight, and were then forced to cobble together a statement to refute the silly pic:

“The sign is obviously a hoax. The phone number goes to a phone sex line.

“As a company and a brand we have a long and proud history of diversity inclusion across our system on both sides of the counter.

“From our management crew, franchisees — across the board, we’re very proud of our record of diversity. This is unfortunately an example of how rumors can outspeed the truth. Over the last 48 hours we’ve been tweeting and striving to clarify that this is a hoax.”

Rick Wion, the social media manager over at McDonald’s, has been rapidly Twitter-denying the picture’s veracity, but the hashtag persisted onto the Trending Topics list over the weekend. Did anyone in your feed fall for the hoax?

In other news, To Kill a Mockingbird‘s ending is being changed so that Tom is acquitted and everyone goes out for ice cream, and a chaperone is being written into Lord of the Flies.

Okay, I was exaggerating about the last two, but they may not be far off, considering that a new version of Mark Twain’s American classic Huckleberry Finn is being edited to replace instances of the n-word with “slave,” as well as removal of- I am not kidding about this- the word “Injun.”

Reaction to the edits are controversial, sparking several editorials pointing out that without a record that rampant racism happened, we won’t have a record that rampant racism happened. Or, as eloquently summed up in the Washington Post:

It’s not about avoiding an awkward classroom moment, or they would have removed the word “ejaculate” from Victorian novels, where everybody is always ejaculating about everything… It would be like renaming 1984 2084, “because the current title does not reflect how pleasant life was under the Reagan administration.”

Jim Norton somewhat offensively described the move in such a way that it kind of highlights the white panic surrounding instances of the n-word in historical literature:

New editions of Huckleberry Finn will not have THE N WORD in it. Huck’s pal will now be called Talks-Loud-In-Movie-Theaters Jim.

I know what you’re thinking- racist cupcakes? No way anyone can accidentally do that.

But it appears Duncan Hines has, at least for a short time, managed to actually make cupcakes singing in blackface for a commercial. Eater snagged a clip of the questionable commercial after Duncan Hines scrubbed the footage for their “Amazing Glazes” line from YouTube. (As we know, removing the clip will only drive searches for it, thus driving interest in it, heretofore evermore associating the brand with blackface cupcakes.)

The screenshot above depicts the cupcakes in all their racially insensitive glory, but you can click through to watch the clip as the cupcakes beatbox and otherwise manage to be totally cringeworthy. Do you think you could have missed the blackface connection watching this clip, ever? Do you find it offensive, or are they just, as Duncan Hines dubbed the clip, “Hip Hop Cupcakes?”

Shirley Sherrod, the USDA official fired for remarks she made that were deliberately misrepresented by Andrew Breitbart’s conservative blog BigGovernment.com, plans to sue for the incident.

Sherrod made her plans known this morning at a National Association of Black Journalists speech in San Diego. CBS News reports:

Speaking of a lawsuit, Sherrod said she “will definitely do it,” arguing that “he had to know that he was targeting me.”

“Now whether he was also trying to target the NAACP, he had to know he was targeting me,” she added.

Sherrod said she wished Breitbart had come to the event “because I really would like to talk to him.”

Sherrod also indicated that she is unsure whether she will opt to return to a position at the UDSA after her controversial dismissal. After the incident, President Obama said that Sherrod “deserved better” than the treatment she’d received. Breitbart later clarified on Good Morning America that Sherrod was not his intended target with the video, but that he had hoped to damage the NAACP by releasing the clip.

In a lawsuit that raises questions about the limits of good customer service, a longtime server at a Florida hotel alleges that his employer honored the request of a visiting British family who did not like being waited on by black staff members or people with “foreign accents.”

The family’s request was recorded when they checked in at the Ritz-Carlton in Naples, Florida, and later a black staff member was reportedly disallowed from serving the family of racists. A lawsuit filed on behalf of the waiter, 40-year-old Wadner Tranchant, seeks $75,000 in damages due to a “hostile and abusive” work environment. Papers filed in the lawsuit detail the incident:

“Plaintiff’s normal duties entailed providing service to guests, including the serving of food, but as Plaintiff began to provide such services on March 12, 2010, he was prevented by his immediate supervisors from doing so, as to the Morgan family because they did not want to be waited on by a black person,” the lawsuit says.

The suit goes on to say that Tranchant was “humiliated, embarrassed, frightened, intimidated, subject to undeserved shame and suffered severe emotional stress, which is continuing and for which Plaintiff is seeking medical and psychological treatment.” Court papers named one member of the family, Rodney Morgan, but did not name others in their party. The Ritz-Carlton has said that the family is not welcome back at the property.

A New Jersey Wal-Mart is seeking the culprit or culprits behind an embarrassing racist prank at a New Jersey store.

Shortly before 7PM, shoppers say an announcement over the intercom at a Washington Township store offended shoppers and workers alike:

“Attention Wal-Mart customers: All black people leave the store now.”

Witnesses say staff were clearly upset by the incident, and shoppers were shocked:

“Just as I finished bagging my purchases there was an announcement that said “attention Walmart customers, all black people must leave the store now,’” Ellington explained. “Once I heard that, it was almost like a hush over the whole store momentarily because no one had believed what had taken place.”

An announcement followed about ten minutes later, indicating that staff were reviewing security footage to try and find the person or persons responsible for the announcement. The local police are taking the incident “very seriously,” and treating it as a “bias crime.”

“It’s being treated as a suspected bias crime in which the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office is assisting Washington Township,” Weisenfeld said, adding the county’s victim-witness coordinator has contacted the store manager to offer counseling service to those in the store who were affected by this.

While the actions of the pranksters were certainly offensive and cruel, is counseling really necessary?

In a shocking turn of events, Howard Stern has said something sort of racist, undeniably misogynistic and totally dick.

Stern, not known for his charitable feelings toward the fairer sex, blasted the praise heaped upon breakout actress Gabourey Sidibe on his show yesterday. For lack of a better term, Stern seems to think that Sidibe is a bit of a one trick pony, and won’t work again due to being “the size of a planet” and, ostensibly, “black.” (Someone should tell this year’s fat black Oscar winner Mo’Nique that fat black women don’t have futures in entertainment because she’s probably under the opposite impression, having won an Academy Award and all.)

Stern railed:

“There’s the most enormous, fat black chick I’ve ever seen. She is enormous. Everyone’s pretending she’s a part of show business and she’s never going to be in another movie,” he said. “She should have gotten the Best Actress award because she’s never going to have another shot. What movie is she gonna be in?”

Well, Howard, considering there are women in our society who are fat, black or both, perhaps she could portray one on the stage or screen? Yes, Sidibe doesn’t have the marketability of say, Jessica Alba, but “never going to have another shot” is a bit dramatic, isn’t it? Howard wasn’t the only Sidibe detractor though- formerly fat, still black Robin Quivers seemed to agree with Stern:

“And Oprah’s lying and saying you’re going to have a brilliant career,” said Robin.

“Oprah’s another liar, a filthy liar,” said Stern. “She’s telling an enormous woman the size of a planet that she’s going to have a career.”

Indeed! Where would Oprah get the preposterous notion that a black woman of size could ever become successful? That’s like saying a fat black lady could become the richest woman in our society, wield enormous influence over American women and cause books to sell out like they have crack cocaine embedded in the pages. Silly Oprah. What redonkulous claim will she make next, that a fat black woman could get a job as a sidekick to a cranky, misogynistic, plastic obsessed radio host with a giant ego? People are so delusional.

The image above allegedly depicts a quick change to a menu posted in the cafeteria at NBC studios in New York after outrage rapidly ignited on the internet over the original selections.

NBC cook Leslie Calhoun, who selected the items in honor of Black History Month, is confused about the controversy swirling around her menu choices- consisting of fried chicken, collards and black eyed peas. Jimmy Fallon’s Roots band’s drummer Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson posted a Twitpic that began circulating rapidly, but it was he who actually requested the dishes, Calhoun told the Post:

“Questlove, who I serve every day and who enjoys my food, requested the neck bone [cooked in] the black-eyed peas and fried chicken, then got off the line, saying, ‘This is racist,’ ” she said.

“The next thing you know, people were taking pictures of the sign and asking all the other black people in the cafeteria if this was racist. They said that it wasn’t.”

Calhoun, who is herself black, has been “begging” for 8 years to do a special menu featuring such items in February and finally got her wish this year- though it’s looking like that may not continue, thanks to Thompson. Calhoun says she’d planned to prepare dishes like the chicken, collards and black-eyed peas each Thursday and doesn’t understand why people are offended, telling the Post:

“I don’t understand it at all. It’s what I eat.”

Is it even possible for a black woman to be racist in efforts to honor Black History month? It seems to me, if Calhoun’s account is honest, that she was manipulated by ?uestlove- perhaps in an attempt to get more Twitter attention. Thompson titled his Twitpic “hmmm HR?”, which seems to imply that he’d like to see disciplinary action over the menu. That he requested. Bear in mind this man is in a band on TV, and Calhoun is a woman who cooks in the cafeteria. Kind of douchey, there, ?uestlove.

An hour after he posted the Twitpic, the drummer decided he needed a time-out from Twitter:

“i think i need a twitter break. i done started something. and now i must put out fire.”

I’ve never claimed my video skills were brilliant, but an anonymous user by the name of the Young Twats has added a mix (including parts of our video) to YouTube that goes even further in not only proving the Young Turks racism, but also how they contradict themselves. It’s long, but it’s worth it if you’re interested as to why The Young Turks are America’s most hypocritical, and at times racist radio and YouTube show.

I don’t have permission, but a repeat from the sidebar which is referred to in the video. Given they used our footage, and the intent of this post, I’d hope there’s no problems in the repost:

The other interesting things are;
They had no connection to any part of this video.
They mix up so many things, it turned into a non sequitir.
They did not do any research.
They, themselves, acted so overly anti-racist, that they actually were racist to the West Indians.
They cherry picked a local ad, from a different continent, from a different culture, from a game they do not know about or play, took it out of context, added a racial context, and then they broadcasted it to the very people that would take offence.

They, themselves, perpetrated racial hatred
And perpetuated it, by leaving it on their channel, twice
When Australia had taken the ad off air, straight away!

The end result is; They effectively censored the Australian media, by claiming it used a stereotype, that only exists in the US.
In other words,
They forced their culture upon another culture.

But in a statement yesterday, KFC Australia said the ad had been “misinterpreted by a segment of people in the US”.

“It is a light-hearted reference to the West Indian cricket team,” the statement read.

“The ad was reproduced online in the US without KFC’s permission, where we are told a culturally based stereotype exists, leading to the incorrect assertion of racism.

“We unequivocally condemn discrimination of any type and have a proud history as one of the world’s leading employers for diversity.”

The racist hot house at the Young Turks is under more scrutiny today after it was noted that the shows producer referred to West Indies fans as “savages.”

Young Turk producer Jayar Jackson writes on the site that the ad, which as we noted yesterday shows West Indies cricket fans exactly how they would normally behave, “depicts dark skinned people as savages.”

But it gets worse: Jackson writes “Sometimes these people could be hiring for a job and if they have their stereotypes confirmed by pop culture….No one wants a savage working for them….”

The problem of course is that the way the West Indies fans are shown in the ad is similar to how cricket fans of many races and nationalities behave (see video below, that includes Jackson;) no one in any civilized country with a basic understanding of cultures outside their own could possibly think otherwise.

When Jackson says that the ad portrays West Indies fans savages, he is saying that West Indies fans who behave the same way at a game of cricket are savages as well. The use of the racist term “savages” when referring to black people is well known across the globe, unlike the idea that African-Americans like fried chicken, which is a racist American stereotype unknown outside North America. Like Ana Kasparian, he condemns cultures other than his own as being something less worthy, or in Ana’s words “uncivilised.”

Seriously, WTF is wrong with these people? They claim they’re a “liberal” show but the only thing they seem to be quite liberal on is using racist terms to describe people from cultures they don’t understand.

My repeat from yesterday: how is the show tied into the likes of Examiner.com and Sirius XM? How do these people have YouTube partner status?
